1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Sacramento KCRA Channel 3 ABJD Story [ON AIR NOV.15th]

Sep 7, 2007

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw this tag - and the typo ;3. I'm mildly offended at the way they've been phrasing things (not everyone is rabid, jesus) and I really they would stop pushing the monetary side because honestly? I don't want people knowing how much I spend - they don't need to know what my doll-shelf is worth DX.

There are people out there spending $50.00 per video game for 50+ games PER SYSTEM (which are, themselves, approx. $300.00)...or technophiles spending just as much on the latest new technologically advanced "toys" (iPhone anyone?) =_=

I'm afraid to see what the actual piece is now... *huff*

    2. Probably. But, speaking as someone who found out about the hobby through an article in...I think it was the Times, though I'm not completely sure anymore...anyway, I found BJD's through a national magazine spot something like five years or so ago, and I'm still into them, so you can never be quite sure.

However, it was only a side bar, and it was really positive.

I hope it's never normal ;) And never anything like anime, since I would hate to see cheap American knock offs made in China being passed off as BJD's. (Note, I said CHEAP. I have nothing against American BJD companies if they have quality).

However, I do believe that accurate education is important. Speaking as an anime/manga geek, I can tell you that "back in the day" (i.e. before cartoon network was airing anime as a regular, and you had to special order any English-translated manga at the book store) it was a really big struggle not only to make people understand that I was just a normal kid with a normal interest, but also to help them understand that I wasn't a sexual deviant or psychopath, because the general inaccurate information believed by the public at the time was that anime=porn. I was once sent to the principals office in my Jr. High School for having a manga (Card Captor Sakura) because my teacher was under the firm impression that it was pornographic comics. :< And it took YEARS before my mother was convinced that not only was it a safe hobby, but that it was actually good for me since it gave me -a typically outcast and anti-social kid that was usually bullied- something to connect with other kids my age on.

What I'm getting at is that whether or not the information will help the hobby or not, the real importance of the matter is that the information is as truthful as possible. Just by looking at some of the comments here already, the bad spin on the promo alone is likely to cause problems for BJD owners in the Sac area, because the portrayal was inaccurate. We can only hope that the story itself has less spin on it. I don't think that a news story would scare off any exisiting members of the hobby, and anyone that might be truly interested, but if the information is spun to give a negative light or is downright wrong, it COULD cause harassment and further discord between owners and their family or friends who do not agree with their choice in hobby or believe it to be something harmful.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the story when it's put on YouTube. Thank you to all the owners who agreed to take part in it: you always put yourself and your image on the line when you let the news make it's own portrayal of you, but even if the piece is a dud, at least we here on DoA know what you really mean :)

    3. @Sebastion: I could go on forever about anime/mana stereotypes T_T My own art teacher didnt approve of it because she believed it was animated porn. Blah. But because I'm used to ridicule from that hobby, anything I get from this one doesnt generally phase me. Lol.

I'll be watching the story at 10pm on Ch58. I havent told any of my friends about it yet, but if its good I'll tell them to watch it at 11, or on youtube.

    4. OK I watched the youtube and I must say it was weird to say the least. You could tell they put it together for their sake not the hobbies. Like I said before and others have said too. It's all how you take it and if your insulted then well you'll just have to post at YouTube that your insulted. Otherwise just let it go you know the truth and not much we can do about the warped way they did this.

    5. Well, here's hoping that the segment itself is cute. I really don't want to be taken out of context.

I am a little worried about the worth of these dolls coming out to the general public. Not because I care if people know how much I spend, but because it will make them more a target of theft. Up until this point I've always figured that if anyone robbed my home they would bypass the dolls, thinking that they aren't worth anything. If the knowledge of their price becomes more common then they might be more easily targeted. This could be particularly dangerous for those that take their dolls out in public (for meet-ups, etc).

    6. I'm more worried about theft out in public. There have been a couple of incidents here on DoA where someone says they were out in public and someone grabbed at one of their dolls/doll carrier, etc. For instance, if someone sees the news report and figures out just how much the dolls are worth, the next public meetup could be viewed as a pretty easy way to get some cash, provided they don't get caught and/or tackled by fifteen doll owners.

    7. I have to admit, I laughed pretty hard when I saw the youtube clip. I can't believe how badly they wanted to make that segment look like a serious, hard-hitting news special. THE DOLLS, THEY'RE EVIL! RUN AWAY~! XD;

Seriously, though, I'm glad they pulled these, and I hope that the actual story isn't as bad as this. It really must be a slow news week for them, lol.

    8. I was wondering, wouldn't it be nice to have a balanced video done that shows the good side of this hobby? In Japan, they do that. Even filmed the Volks Halloween Tea Party for there.

With Dolpa coming up, I wonder if Volks would allow someone to video tape and do interviews even if it was just to be put on line? I sure would like to see that instead of this negative news story.

Anyone out there with connections that might want to try this? I'd be happy to help out, I do sound editing.

    9. Tonight Ill try to recored the interview tonight because i have tebo I'll get around to recording it ither tonight or tomorro!

    10. That promo is teh awesome. Seriously, now I'm going to have to show it to everyone. So freaking funny!! :XD: God I hope the actual segment is as good as the promo! Classic stuff, classic. :eusa_sile

    11. I'll be waiting to see this on youtube. But I was poking around the site and found a write-up about tonights story, and I wasn't sure if anyone else has found it
      http://www.kcra.com/news/14609491/detail.html#
-heres to hoping the story will be cute!-

    12. How long is the segment? I hope under 30min.

    13. Way to make your people happy. *shakes head*

I hope the full thing isn't quite as disgusting as that promo.

    14. I'm under the impression that the segement will be around 5 minutes, maybe more. Although to be honest, I dont usually watch the channel 3 news so I'm not sure how long their average story is.

    15. That doesn't give much hope for the segment :( I don't know about you guys, but I really hope they're planning a more positive outlook for the actual piece, otherwise *I* plan on sending a polite but firmly disapproving email to their station. But only if the segment is bad. *waits to see*

    16. Sebastian, I'm there writing with you, if it's a negative-light segment.

    17. tch. I used to be a journalism major and even I could pick out some "no no"s in their phrasing. Volks did not "refuse" to tell, they "declined."

    18. Wow. I still haven't seen the commercial.

And I've been looking for it all day! *_*

My friend saw the new promo commercial just a while ago, and she says it just shows the dolls, and doesn't really say much.

I understand why they think the whole price of BJDs is big. I mean, before I started getting into them, 600+ for a doll would make me have a heart attack.

But thats tv for you. It bugs me, but Millicent says the actual segment is great. :|

    19. OH WOW. I JUST SAW THE PROMO YOUTUBE.

That actually is pretty offensive. :| It was editted to make us look like psychos.

I'm glad it was taken off air.

      ALSO,

It will be on my58 (or channel 4) at 10pm.

At 11pm, it will be on channel 3.

    20. Yikes what the hell >.>,

I did not like that Promo it was very very stupid. That music, unecessary. That graphical Lighting and effects majorly unecessary.

What is it will TV. If I wasn't aBJD owner I wouldn't think it was weird. And that a Promo with a really positive attitude could probably have as much effect.

I guess it is expected but I'm annoyed how false it has been portrayed. Just hope that was a veiwer grabbing technique and the show wont be like that at all.

They even put some random stop motion in it too TRY and creep people out ....noobs :Lol
