Sacramento KCRA Channel 3 ABJD Story [ON AIR NOV.15th]

Sep 7, 2007

    1. I thought it was pretty good. Not what I was expecting, certainly. Seemed a bit haphazard, but the meet up scene was pretty funny now that I know it was staged.

I must say though, I really hate the mindless new caster chatter that comes with news programs. Now I remember why I only read my news... I can't stand seeing them goofing off. "I'd like to see him with the wig!" Spare me.

    2. I actually really liked the segment. It was pretty well done and I didn't see any negativity in it at all.

Also I know this may be a bit silly of me, but PLEASE show respect for KCRA 3 ^_^; it is my workplace after all and majority of people there are lovely and nice people! So seeing foul things written about my station and stuff is kinda offensive...

    3. :D you guys looked great.. even though i didnt know exactly who was who xD
OMG i wanna go to the volks store now! *O* i am only an hour and 30 minutes from LA, and so i would love to know directions to there!!

but the promo did upset me D< it was muy mucho insulting....
lyssas mom's had some nice dolls! and lyssas doll was very cute! the doll i want is on my avatar xD i also want camine from DOD

volks has DOD too, right? or are they different companies? O.o

    4. No, I'm sorry, but that promo was still really uncalled for. While most of KCRA might be great people, that promo just illustrates that there are a few really bad seeds. Every foul thing said was towards those jerks and I'll continue to bad-mouth them. Talking about the company isn't offensive... that promo was offensive. The article also started out really poorly, and I think it was written by Millicent. So while I know why you don't want the company you work for to be dragged through the mud, they kind of deserve it at this point. I'm just glad that there are people that are there who do have some sense about them and have a good heart. You seem to be one of them.

    5. They are different companies.
DOD is a Korean doll company.

    6. O.O. . .
      oh yeah... xD my bad..
but they are all nice dolls anyway.. and i want one... *should get a job* >.>

    7. Wow...much better than I expected (except for showing Luts and DoD dolls when talking about Volks). The meetup was a bit funny, but never having been to a meetup I didn't notice that the first time around.

    8. Meh, I expected more, but, what can you do?

Everyone looked really cute though! :fangirl: Wish I could have been there!

    9. After that promo, I think it's silly to ask people not to be a little mad at KCRA 3. Regardless of the segment itself, the promo spot for it made people look not just like adults with a silly hobby, but like poor Lyssa was insane. So...I really don't think there is a reason to cut the station any slack.

edit- Okay, even the actual spot painted people as a little more ~crazy~ than was necessary. As I said, it'll always be a weird hobby, but the use of repeated flashes of various dolls over and over and stuff, and the way it was presented...I don't know.

I think it's just better NOT to have media exposure of this stuff.

    10. That was very interesting.

The spot itself wasn't bad, though I found myself laughing when they talked about how expensive these dolls are, and stated the figure of $600 (OMG, if they only knew what Bermann's go for, they'd REALLY think we were crazy people). The happy face over the boy bits gave a giggle as well.

But overall, a fairly respectful spot. The promo spot was completely slanted and misleading, too bad they felt they had to "sell" the spot that way.

    11. I saw the promo the other night while I was on my home PC (I can't YouTube at work) and am glad it was pulled. I'm anxious to see the finished piece. However, given the emphasis everyone is saying was put on the value of the dolls, you can bet I will never talk to a reporter about any dolls I own, any more than I'd tell the world I owned expensive diamond jewelry.

    12. @ Lizzie - homg, I know. And I'm like, manic when I'm handing over Nova in that horrible puffed up Jrock-esque wig XD;;

      Over-all, I'm rather pleased with the actual piece: it was a pretty fair representation of what the less...fanatical members of the doll community are like. I really liked the "they're like...action figures, but cooler/pricier" bit *chuckles* They spun the segment out rather tastefully I must admit -- and yes, the staged meet-up was hilarious XD;;

      RE: Not bashing KCRA --
I'm sorry, but like Lizzie I feel that not only was the promo piece utter and complete misleading asshatterytrash, the written piece on the KCRA website was also harsh and well, disgusting.

Now, I'm not saying everyone there is like that - no, I'm agreeing with Liz. The words being said are well deserved for what was done and I for one will be sending a firm, polite email to the station to explain why I'm appalled and why I will never allow myself to be part of a segment like this again.

Not only did the promo make us look like a satanic cult full of psychotics, it made Lyssa - a young girl that has to live with her friends and peers having SEEN THAT - look like she was drugged up and whacked out. Then you have the phrasing of the text piece. Big no-nos all around. As has been said: Volks declined to speak about money, not refused. Bah.

    13. Just went and read this and I agree with you. The first four or five lines made me completely appalled.

    14. I was wondering whose doll they had to "borrow" to keep in-studio so they could make their lame newscaster jokes XD

All in all, I think it could've been a lot worse. Case and point, it could've been like the promo. "LOL HAVE A LOOK AT THESE CRAZIES AND HOW MUCH THEY ARE SPENDING PER HUNK OF RESIN."

It also made me realize the difference between the way Japan and America does business. Actually ASK a Japanese company how much they make or how much they've sold? Hello cultural differences.

    15. Well now that I have seen it it is not too bad :D Could have been better and a bit more polite XD But thankgod it wasnt absolutly dreadful.

    16. Having been one of the folks at Volks while they were filming (you can sorta see me sitting in the background of the first volks shot) I was not really happy with the promo. I thought they tried to portray us as total pschyo cultists. And having met Lyssa (who is a very sweet young girl) I realize the news station presented her in a totally hurtful way.
That being said the actual spot wasn't aweful. I was pissed that they said Volks refused to discuss the profits. They simply declined to comment. Bout they mostly portrayed the the people in a decent way.

So good and bad which is better than I really expected.

    17. I don't think Volks quality has or will suffer. I mean listen they already could make way more money by not limiting their dolls, allowing FCS online ect ect ect... But they don't because they have a vision and know that while in the short run they might make more $$ in the long run the exclusivity is what keeps the hobby hopping!

    18. What is the doll mold at 2:57~3:00?
I want to say Dollzone but I'm not sure.

    19. It doesn't look like a DZ to me.... it doesn't have the DZ lips :sweat Unless they are just modded.

    20. He belongs to Neon Addiction here on Doa ^^ I think he is DZ, but will have to double check.
