@sageyufi - Usually the limited resins are only sold during the limited time when they first come out. They've offered several different grey resins...some match a bit but each is named differently and it technically different resin colors.

The rotation of sculpts that are sold out is hit or miss. Sometimes SJ will make a MSD version...sometimes not. I got the above Derek not during his original limited offering and I think he was only offered one other time till he was offered again last July so I swooped to get him because I didn't know if he would get offered again. Then sometimes a limited sold out sculpt becomes a normal sculpt like Matias. I think is all depends on how popular the sculpt is.

Sometimes if you ask for a sculpt Jay might re-release it....maybe if more people want it. I think he had a poll a while ago asking what sculpts people wanted.

 

@luluna Aw bummer, I’ll have to try my best to make the request I guess. I only started getting to know this hobby and right now I feel overwhelmed by the elusivity of everything… Anyway, thanks for your help.

 

@sageyufi - This hobby makes you learn patience and keep an eye on things. Who knows, maybe the sculpt you want will have a re-release.

At least you don't have to worry about any lottery system! Some companies have those and it's brutal and lucky if you get an exclusive offering. I gave up on those.

Then if all else fails you could try a want-to-buy post in the Marketplace. Maybe someone who got one wants to sell.

 

They must be at their full capacity atm because it seems like every doll is now out-of-stock

I can however happily say I’ve just made my first “big” BJD purchase on hands and feet parts and a pair of boots

 

@sageyufi - Yes, I just noticed that everything is 'sold out'! I can't remember that happening before. Maybe by mid-January or when he offers whatever comes next, he will open up some more sculpts.

Congratulations on hands and feet and boots. It is fun to create a look for the dolls.

 

All the non-limited categories are not showig. Maybe that's just a way to prevent sales while they process the Christmas orders.

 

Oh you are right. (It wasn't like that I don't think when I looked earlier.) I wonder what changes are coming? In the past he would just have 'sold out' on any dolls not available. Curious...

Btw, I want to shop for an outfit for my future SJ doll. Any tips on how to get started? In particular, I'm looking for a fitted long elegant dress.

I'm no stranger to shopping on Taobao app, but for all the BJD acronyms I'm unfamiliar with attached to 1/3, it's a bit daunting. I just know Iple House clothes are an equivalent fit. Where else can I look?

I thought I was safe from the big girls but no, Melissa has just opened up a whole new avenue in my collection. I started last year with 4 dolls (all fids) and now I have 14 and vast majority are SartoriaJ. And yeah when I'm not buying dolls I'm buying doll clothes (I swear I spend more on their clothes than I do my own )

@sageyufi Do you mean specific terms/chinese characters or are you looking for specific creators on taobao? Unfortunately, I've tried like 10 times to sign up for taobao and china must absolutely hate me, cause I never can haha. I know when looking for larger, more SID size they're usually under "big girl" or "bigger girl" lol

 

@Wittyilynamed I have two, the other one is in Amber beige with the devil face up. I love Melissa, you definitely need to get at least one

 

@Wittyilynamed Ah, I see! Do you happen to know what measurements "big girl" is based off? Like which doll as the "standard"? I have a feeling SJ's more realistic proportions may not necessarily fit.

SJ collectors, where do you shop for clothes and shoes if not from SJ's shop? Any recommendations for creators on Etsy and other platforms?

 

shoes/boots:

SJ's "middle feet" fit Iplehouse ladies shoes.
SJ's flat feet fit SJ's 1/4 mens boots/shoes

sometimes take your chance off Ebay too. Worse case....if you find "boots" (maybe shoes) that you really like, that are SD 1/3 size and they don't fit your dolls feet, remove the foot, attach a large paper clip to the elastic (so the elastic doesn't go up into the body) and just insert the leg into the boot.

clothing:

shop ebay, etsy and ask the seller, if the item will fit the SJ woman bodies. If you send the seller the measurements of the body, they can answer that question too.
I have clothing items that were made for a larger SD 1/3 but, I want it for a smaller 1/3 SD lady, and I'll just cheat and put pins in the back for a more "fitted" look. It's always better to get a clothing item that is too big, than too small.

@sageyufi I don't think there's necessarily a standard across taobao, but like I said before a common size I've seen mean "big girl" is Iplehouse SID, which is a pretty good fit for SJ girls. If you use discord, there's BJD discords that usually have better taobao advice! Taobao is pretty heavily focused on chinese doll makers though, unsurprisingly, so I haven't seen a huge proliferation of "larger" (I say that with a large dose of irony) sized options. (I have to rely on others who can send me links though, so I've never been able to just browse haha)
