1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Sartoria J Design Group - Part 3

Jun 26, 2023

    1. Isn't it wonderful when you finally get the box returned to you with a doll head in it with new makeup? It's SO exciting that the makeup artist made your doll in the image you have in your mind for her:dance:love
      They both look fan-tas-tic!

    2. @Wittyilynamed The both look fantastic! Lovely face ups, especially Malena.
@luluna Same problem here with the face up artists. I think there is no one in Germany anymore who offers them. And I find it very difficult to explain my ideas to another person when both do not have English as their first language. Thankfully SartoriaJ does really good face ups!

    3. @Ashemanu - I also have difficulty in explaining my ideas for a faceup...but in another language would be even harder! I do miss seeing more owner dolls with artists unique faceups...seeing other examples of what a sculpt can be! I think it is a good idea for SJ to spotlight a doll of the month (with a new faceup). I haven't bought as many of the same sculpts as I used to.:XD: Maybe that will change.;)

I too am thankful that the SJ artists do wonderful work currently! It's probably why I've bought more dolls from them lately.:)

    4. They look gorgeous. It's great to see other types of face ups on them to get a feel for the sculpts. Now that I have one doll I need to study the other sculpts to be ready if one pops up - I find it hard to make quick decisions on large dolls.

Maya continued to raid the wardrobe yesterday to see what fits her...she found a hot pink linen suit that she liked :) It's a little large for her but it works ok until I can sew her some more things of her own...

    5. Somehow, I didn't realize more people weren't painting SJ dolls? But you're right, I'm really not seeing them be posted by other artists! I'm really sorry to hear that, though, because SJ dolls have SO much potential! I'm terrible about showing all the faceups I do, and while I've only done one of the three 1/3s that I own, I have done all of my mother's 1/4 SJs. heck, one of mine is sitting beside me! I'll try and get some shared in the 1/4 thread hopefully sometime this week to perk people up. But to keep it on topic for this one: here's my human Jude from almost exactly two years ago~

@LyanneNZ : Your Maya looks GORGEOUS! That outfit is stunning! In that color!!!!

      • x 10
    6. @LyanneNZ It's the perfect colour for your Maya! Did you sew the outfit yourself? :o

@TasiaChiba I'm curious to see more doll owners do their own dolls' face ups so consider me intrigued and I'll check in the Mini :)

I'm about 50/50 wanting to do my own doll's face up since I already have most of the art materials on hand from previous projects. My main problem is my high expectations. But I suppose I can always make an attempt or two before most likely shipping it out to a pro face up artist.

    7. @TasiaChiba that face up is wonderful! I missed Jude but when I scrolled upwards I thought...Rex...and then realised it was Jude. But the mouth is so similar isn't it? I will have to check out the minis thread to see what you have posted there :)

@sageyufi Yes Maya's outfit was made by me for the Iplehouse EID girls so it's a little large on Maya but it gives me an idea of what tweaks I need to make to patterns when making for her :) And yes, why not give your own face up a go and then if you are not happy with results you could always send her on for a face up.

    8. Thanks all! And yes, while I think Sartoriaj artists do a great job at face-ups, I love to see different interpretations from independent artists!

I'll have to try and see if I can get all my Sartoriaj dolls in a photo soon.

@LyanneNZ Your Maya looks great, love her with this shorter hair do!

@TasiaChiba So handsome. I love Jude, still so sad I missed out on acquiring him when he was available.

    9. As much as I'd love to have independent face up artists work on my doll, the value of my country's dollar, and ridiculous shipping costs in my country really put a barrier in the way of enlisting a doll artist. However I am so happy to see other doll owners with the thoughtfulness to have an independent artist work on their doll. It's amazing how a faceup can change the look of the doll. I think the recent re-release of Malena with a new look, and now seeing @Wittyilynamed 's Malena really shows that. Thank you so much for sharing your beauties!!

    10. @LyanneNZ - Your Maya looks lovely! That color makes her pop.

@TasiaChiba - Your Jude faceup is wonderful! He's a handsome guy!

    11. YES! Pink is her color. I have my Maya wearing a SJ pink dress (I did remove some of the beading from under her bust, I thought it looked too busy)

    12. @Bluenocs Fellow Canadian here, and as someone just getting started into BJD, I really feel the burn through my wallet. It's been a MASSIVE leap for me from spending $15 CAD on 1/12 scale MJDs to now spending well over $1k. The expensive currency is truly insufferable. It also doesn't help that even our local artists are pricing themselves in USD... This is all basically incentive to learn to craft everything ourselves. But from a simple Google search, I do know we at least have a very talented face up artist in our country.

@susieagent99 Your Maya's style is impeccable! Love the wig choice too! I don't think I've ever seen a common wig that was not just another long-and-straight hair wig.

    13. Hey guys am I blind or there are no basic dolls available on Sartoria’s website? They all are gone or have they changed things around and I don’t see them?

    14. Thanks, everyone for the lovely comments! I hope to have those other photos up sooooon~ ^_~

@sageyufi : Thanks so much! I have a lot of expectations of my own work, but I do enjoy it! If you have the supplies and are feeling froggy, I totally recommend trying it out first to see how you feel about it.

@LyanneNZ : Than you! He really does have that Rex vibe! I think one of the biggest differences is Rex's jowls~

@luluna : Thank you so much!!!!! He really is a handsome guy~ ^_~

@Wittyilynamed : Jude is so much love.

Elf Jude was my first SJ love, waaaay back when! I saw an owner photo of his first release and I just absolutely had to nab him somehow. So I literally stalked SJ until his next release! I'd asked about buying the human and elf heads at the same time and was told no, but then a couple months later SJ announced a release allowing you to buy both heads, so I contacted them again and they agreed to letting me buy the second head! My human head here is actually the spare, so I painted him a bit darker to match a different color for a body in the future. My elf, however, is still blank because I'm just that picky over my own dolls! /o\

@susieagent99 : Ohhhh, that hair is just SOOO lovely on your Maya!

    15. Always nice to see owner photos! This thread blew up, haha.

@Onkani I believe they're changing to a "doll of the month" model instead of offering "standard" dolls as everything is now listed as "Collection" on the site. I was eventually going to nab a Silvia but I guess not anymore. :(

    16. They are probably changing up their order / selling process with the new "Doll of the Month" and working on the holiday pre-orders so as not to get overwhelmed. If you missed a sculpt, in time they may return as Doll of the Month.

If they go forward with that route, I hope SJ will consider at least one male and one female sculpt to highlight every month (preferably more). Also, fingers crossed they bring back the elves!!

    17. Sartoria said the doll of the month would be based on user input, so let Sartoria know you want Silvia! If others want her also she could be doll of the month.

I think it's too early to get upset about the changes they have made. They may not be done yet. And if their customers don't lke the changes, they can change it again.

    18. @susieagent99 I always love to see your Maya in the pink rapunzel set, the pink makes her skin glow! So gorgeous.

And while I wish maybe Sartoriaj had given more of a heads up for the change, I would rather them prioritize whatever keeps them creatively fulfilled and able to keep up with orders.

    19. @TasiaChiba I’m so happy everything worked out for you! That’s some patience right there! And with how well your human Jude turned out, I have no doubt your elf head will be nothing less of spectacular!

You know, it puts into perspective how fortunate the timing of Malena’s return is for me: I didn’t have to wait long to purchase my first BJD!

    20. @susieagent99 That's a beautiful gown on your Maya!

I'm going to be watching SJ more closely although I have slowed way down on buying big girls in recent years but once I get working with them I really enjoy them.

Maya has yet to show you some more items that fit from the existing wardrobe but in the meantime I made a basic pattern for her and from that created one for a fitted corset top and slim skirt. Interesting that it also fitted my nSID girls well (and they both are sorely in need of clothing so that was a nice discovery.) She would like a little jacket to go over this set but she will need to be patient ;)
