Say your Boyfriend/Girlfriend Wanted To Buy You A Doll,

Jul 30, 2012

    1. My ex-boyfriend bought me my Littlefee Shiwoo, Rain, for my 21st. He asked which doll I wanted though, because he has no idea about dolls. To this day Rain is still his favourite out of all the dolls I own.

    2. I would definitely be thrilled to have my boyfriend buy me a doll. At this point in our relationship (we've been together four years) it would be okay. Two years ago? I would have been a bit more skeptical. Of course, this is my personal opinion, so to each their own.

He doesn't always understand this hobby, but he supports me because he enjoys me being creative and having a good time. Besides, with the amount of money he spends on video games... he can't really say too much!

We're reached a point where we would both be comfortable spending that kind of money on each other, even if our hobbies differ. Of course, it would probably be more likely that we would hand the other the money and say, "Please, have at it. Get what you want." LOL

    3. Oh hell yes! But I'd be very specific on what I want since it's a lot of money.

    4. Ahah, I keep telling him if he is not sure what I want for Christmas, I would love to have a fairyland doll lol, so I would be so very happy if he was to get me a doll, but I agree given that is a lot of money I wouldn't live it to chance as to which ones he gets me. Saying that, I am sure so long it was a fairyland one, I would be happy. A doll is better than no doll at all. I don't think I would dare selling the doll, it would be very sentimental to me, it's a big thing if your partner treat you to a doll when he doesn't really get your hobby. Luckily my partner is very supportive, so I might get one for Christmas, I wish lol,

    5. You people make me feel miserably single. And I am the most pessimistic person ever when it comes to relationships. this also turned out lengthy. Why can't I explain things in just a sentence or two? Bah.

Now, if my hypothetical boyfriend wanted to buy me a doll and had the economy to do so without otherwise affecting more important things (possible renovating, bills, getting a car if he needed one, etc) then I would let him. This is assuming our relationship was serious enough for him to have taken note of my interests on his own, because I would never go ahead and tell him that I wished for a BJD (I just don't like to drop hints about what I want, it feels like begging to me.) If he sat me down and asked if there was anything I'd like, and that anything went, I would not have mentioned dolls (possibly a newly released game or something of the like, lmao)

And if the doll he gave me weren't one that I had wished for. Well hell, it was a gift from someone who obviously cared enough to spent that kind of money on me (or maybe he is so loaded that's equivalent to buying a bottle of soda for him. Who knows with these hypothetical guys. -__-'') so I'd treasure it anyway. I would definitively get it re-styled to my taste though!

    6. My bff is amazingly understanding, i'm into many types of doll's and when she first saw my ldd's she said "they're not exactly something i'd be into" but after half of a year when i started being more open about my collections she started loving them even has a wishlist.

    7. That's actually how I got my first doll -- she was a birthday gift. Thankfully my fiancee's a doll person and understands my feelings. She told me to pick the doll out, since it's honestly more of a personal thing with me. I would never sell her, even if something happened to her that "ruined" her. If she'd gotten me a doll I didn't like, I would keep it for a long while and try to get things to work out. If it didn't, I would talk it over with her and see if she wanted the doll instead. It'd be quite an intimidating conversation, but I'd do it. I hate making people feel bad for any reason...

When she first offered to buy me a doll, I told her no repeatedly. I didn't want her to pay for something that expensive (I have "I'd never had much money growing up" problems). But after a while I broke down and said yes. She really wanted to get me one and she had the money... I don't regret it now and neither does she. I love my girl that she got for me.♥

    8. I bought my friend a doll, but when another friend bought me a Nirvana LP I felt so bad because it was "soooo much money." xD

I think if they offered to buy it I'd absolutely refuse, but if they did it without me knowing I'd be ecstatic. If it was a doll I didn't like, I would mod it until I did. There have been a lot of dolls I haven't liked and then seen photos of different wigs/eyes/mods that have made them look fantastic.

    9. My boyfriend actually got me a doll last Christmas. At first I refused repeatedly, but we were in a stable financial situation and we'd also been in a relationship for 6 years and planning on many more, so eventually he convinced me. He let me order the doll myself since he didn't want to end up ordering one I didn't want. I'm still incredibly grateful for this gift, and even though the doll's intended character didn't work out I'm working on re-working her into another character because I can't imagine selling her, she means too much to me :)

    10. My boyfriend bought me a doll when we were dating. It was a big surprise for me! Now, he becomes my husband. And he doesn't buy any dolls for me. :(

    11. just make very sure that the non doll people know what you like. my husband bought me a doll a couple of years ago. he found one on ebay that he thought was great and it was one i didn't have. The only problem was the reason i didn't have one was because i don't particularly like them.
Can't complain though, i managed to buy him a train in the wrong scale........

    12. I was gifted a doll today! My best friend is actually the one who got me into the hobby and last year for my birthday she gave me a kitty head with custom face-up and blushing. For the last two birthdays she got heads from me as well, so we have a bit of a tradition going. She gave me my birthday gift today and I was flabbergasted when it wasn't just a head (which I didn't even expect, just sincerely hoped for ;)) but an entire doll. She picked out an adorable RS tiny for me, had a custom face-up done, picked out her clothes and shoes and wig and named her for me and everything. And she was in a box full of props too, I didn't know what hit me! It was already a good day since we went to a doll fair and I got lots of great stuff, but this was simply amazing. I probably would never have picked out this doll myself, but already I love her to bits. She's so cute!

    13. My fianceé wants to buy me a doll as a wedding present. And that is fine. But I would not want it to be a regular thing. This is for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I enjoy saving up for my doll. It is part of the fun for me. Secondly, it just does not feel right for him to spend so much money on a hobby that is mine and not his. Thirdly, he has other things he wants and needs to spend his money on.

He would not buy me a doll that he did not know that I wanted. I have my wishlist on the fridge so it would not be hard for him. So my wedding present is one of my wishlist dolls. =)

    14. Well, I'll never expect David to buy me a whole doll. if he offered to help paying one, as a gift, I'd be happy and probably say yes.. we live together and pretty much share economy (and hobbies, mostly. not this one though) even tho we've been together a bit less than 2 years. it feels like the real thing though,. We're not likely to split up, so I would let him buy me a doll if he wanted to.

I'm glad my ex never offered to buy me a doll. I had an SD boy when I was with him, and I had to sell him, because he reminded me of the ex... no matter what I did with the doll. but that relationship left me scarred in so many ways. I guess if it had been another kind of relationship and breakup, I might not have had to sell the doll. I don't know.
      sorry, I'm rabling XD

    15. I... kind of can't even fathom it. *_*
I have a strange relationship with gifts. I feel odd about people buying me presents. Usually when I want something specific, I just acquire it myself. When I rarely do ask for something, I usually get told its too weird...like a couple Christmases ago, when I asked for an MST3K DVD (I'm a lifelong fangirl, what can I say?) and was told by my family, "Oh, don't be silly." They got me throw pillows for my couch that cost three times what the DVD would have. Ah, well. My ex-boyfriend told me once that he thought it was weird that I didn't demand that he take me shopping like his friends' girlfriends did. The one time he did insist on taking me shopping for my birthday, I wanted to go to the bookstore instead of the mall, and he was confused as all hell.

Now my husband is getting his degree, an I make all the money in the household. He mostly makes me gifts because he's crafty, and if he bought me anything, it would essentially be with my own money.

There must be a world out there were fantabulous things like getting BJDs as gifts do happen. I will gawk at it from afar.

    16. Yea it depends on the length of the relationship for me. I am still a little weirded out that my boyfriend wants to buy help out with a doll as opposed to buying it straight out. However, he wants to do it to make me happy and we've been together and lived together for a year now

    17. Honestly if I had a boyfriend willing to buy me a doll well....I'd be very touched but hesitant to let him spend that kind of money. I'd feel guilty for awhile to be honest...But then I'd probably get excited and thank him over and over when the doll arrived and I'd get to see it in person. As long as that person knows me well or knows what kind of dolls I like. (Like Dollzone, Fairyland, Obitsu, Volks, Bobobie/Resinsoul, Sweet Dolls/Hujoo those types) Then sure..Why the hell not?

    18. I'd be thrilled if my boyfriend wanted to buy me a doll. I'd probably like whatever he picked out because he knows what kind of dolls I like.

    19. I'm married, but in any case, I'm not holding my breath on my husband buying me any BJDs, especially as a surprise. We just don't have that kind of money and he'd never be able to keep it a secret since we share a bank account. He has bought me other dolls that are not ABJDs for my birthday. He has also made layaway payments from his own money for dolls that I have asked for. Most recently, he started a layaway on a LoongSoul White Tiger as my Christmas present. He can't pay for the whole thing, but one payment toward something I really want is more than enough for me.

    20. my boyfriend bought me my second ever dollie my dollzone mo named akira for my 20th birthday and my third doll and first girl dollie my angel of dream lan named italia for our first anniversary, then he took me to the california coast ball joint doll convention this year for my 22nd birthday and while we were there he bought me my resinsoul mei named Luka and snuck her out to the car to surprise me with when we went home to our hotel while i was busy looking at dollie clothes at another stand![i also WON my little monica kliff head in a raffel at this convention YAY] (and he also got me my monster high doll draculaura for our third anniversary LOL)

he is VERY supportive of my dollie addiction LOL! and after three and a half years together hes even started helping me restore rescue project dollies and has totally bonded with one of my dolls too XD (he is in love with my resinsoul song named katsuya who was our very first rescue project dollie!)

it is especially amazing to me cus after starving myself on ramen and mac n cheese for three months to afford my first dollie i never thought i would be able to buy another one... but my kevin bought me my next two and he talks me into buying every one of the other ones i bought for myself always telling me that its ok to spoil myself and convincing me that he can cover our expenses while i pay for it cus he wants me to have the things that make me happy! (also note... when i moved in with him three and a half years ago i owned 10 manga... now i own 300+ and i can assure you he bought most of them for me while i was at work to "surprise" me with when i came home... even when i told him not too LOL)

he spoils me rotten and sometimes it makes me feel terrible since i was VERY poor for a while while growing up and even when we werent poor spending money was and unheard of concept for me so having so many nice things now feels almost surreal and i know its entirely thanks to him since before i got together with him i almost never bought anything for myself that wasnt bare nessecities... so i think in the end he is very good for me since im finally able to enjoy the things i love in life and he supports me in everything that i love!

(and i support him in all of his hobbies too and he has quite a few... i have sacrificed my kitchen to his boxes and boxes of hot wheels and spend my summers at car shows and have even started studying cars so i can know more of what hes talking about when we go to said car shows AND i was the one who worked my butt off at two jobs for six months to buy him his [supposted to be "our" but its totally his] car which is a very rare 1986 mitsubishi starion and is his BABY lol)
