SC doll *Flower and Junior* discussion part 1

@Arkelle Ahah, thank you so much, dear! ;v; Calliope is soo cute! Her eyes are really beautiful! I love that color. I really hope that she'll look good in your crew once she is all complete. ;v; I also like to have my group of dolls look similar/go together so I totally understand how you feel~ I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and can't wait to see her complete!

@Soenatte, ^u^ Aww, thank you so much!!~I know riiiiight! I can't believe how lovely she is even without a faceup! It'll be a while before I can make any progress with her but I'm really excited!
TwT These eyes are temporary at the moment but I really do love them~ I'm planning on getting her some Oscar Doll eyes when I am able but i'm crossing my fingers they'll be the right color orange. xD Haha, and I find it funny that you say that because I absolutely despise everything about doll eyes. Its easily my least favorite part of having BJDs. But of course, the eyes are naturally where your own eyes will focus so they are extremely important and worth the effort to get right, however frustrating they may be. c: And if there is any tips I could give about choosing eyes, I would say that its easily 75% about the color you choose and only 25% about the material/style. ^u^ Even cheaper eyes can look great and really add a lot to a doll if the color is strategically chosen to be a one that is intensified by or cohesive with the rest of their color palette. With Calliope, I purposefully made her eyes orange because her hair is light blue and orange/blue are opposites on the color wheel (complimentary). That's just my advise though, idk if everyone puts that much thought with their dolls/characters but I at least always consider color theory with absolutely everything because colors effect perception a lot more than people tend to realize haha~
*U* Eeep! And thank you so much for the comparisons! And its no worries about the turnkey thing, its still a huge help! Asdfghjkl I'm even more hyped now because that is like exactly what I was hoping for! *U* It makes them look so cute and tiny, I think it may totally work for her!

@poochiness Thank you!! =D I swear I just couldn't get the body to pose properly for me before so I was like... OKAY. I'll figure it out... if everyone else can do it so can I! xD And I really love his clothes too @u@ they are some of the commissioned pieces I got from HallowHawlk a while ago. I need to commission her for more though >__< If I could I'd have all my dolls that belong in the gang from the Green Ring dressed in clothes by her... she just gets the qualities I need in the fabrics and clothes in general so right all the time.

@Arkelle I swear she's so stunning! I really want to get a pair of Oscar Doll eyes as well for one of my characters but funds has kept me from being able to do so as well xP; too much incomming resin! I feel like companies were relentless in their assault in 2015 when it came to me... I have the same kind of love-hate relationship with eyes so I 100% know where you come from. They are really crucial to getting the expression you need across and they need to be character-appropriate too, at least for us that do use the dolls to portray characters @_@; I agree about some cheaper eyes looking just as stunning as more expensive ones though xP I tried everything in my first doll from acrylic to silicone to urethane... only for him to end up with a random pair of gift glass eyes from Alice's Collections that jut happened to be just the right color and looked 'just' right in him. I also have a single pair of acrylics I adore for similar reasons. =D ALSO I HAVE TO SAY. COLOR THEORY FOR LIFE PLZ. We do so much of it in university it's been forever ingrained in my subconscious as well. I tend to do the same from time to time and my friend always laughs at me because she finds it a bit too nitpicky to go about it that way. (I've got dolls with purple hair and yellow eyes and the opposite xP as well as a green and red one! xD;;; and a much more regular carrot head with blue eyes too.. fun thing is I don't even realize until after I've solidified the design.)

I'm glad I could help though!!! I'm really hoping it'll work with Calliope and that she'll look good together with Shu and all >~< I'm a lot less picky about head sizes/sizes in general myself (my friend and I have a pair of SD and MSD, given that the SD lady is supposed to be a giantess it simply made sense, but the head size difference never really bothered me in general DX; ) but when they don't mesh too good together it's just sad... u__u

That being said everything is here!!! So faceup time it is. xD; Here's a picture of my Mizi, Euphemia, chilling with my luts event head and my super tiny little Ossia. Cal's outfit is possitively ridiculous... WAY TOO MANY PARTS TO IT. I am really looking forward to trying it on him but at the same time... not... //sob

 

Arkelle, your Yabi girl is positively stunning...even without a faceup. That blue hair...gorgeous! And those eyes...wow! Yabi certainly makes an adorable girl.

Soenatte, I so love the way you've styled your Cal. He looks amazing on that body and that eyepiece on him is pure awesomeness!. And I hear you about the faceups...I'm hip deep in artwork on my own Mizi right now and it's taking forever (with all the other things life is currently throwing my way!) I just want her done!!! And hooray for your Mizi's arrival! I can't wait to see how she turns out! We can't have too many Mizis around here...the more the merrier!

Lythtis, congratulations on your order...I think it's a very good thing to order now, especially since Mizi has just sold out.

Speaking of which, wow! Am I ever glad I ordered my Mizi as quickly as I did...I'd have been absolutely devastated if I'd missed out on her!

@Soenatte, TxT I feel you about 2015 being relentless. Especially in the last few months a truly unexpected amount of dolls have totally stolen my heart and with limited dolly funds (thanks Fairyland) its been super difficult to be forced to pick and choose what holds priority. Things like eyes and clothes have pretty much been put on hold for a while to even have a chance at getting even one of the numerous limited sculpts i'm still desperately hoping for. OTL
xD Haha, i'm glad i'm not alone in having a love-hate relationship with doll eyes. I mean they are super gorgeous and all and I love everything about them prior to me having to put them in a doll's head. It all goes downhill from there xD
^u^ But yeah, I generally only go for urethane eyes these days but I absolutely adore my stylized acrylic eyes from Souldoll! I also have some really beautiful glass eyes too but since they are high-dome I can't use them. That is honestly the main reason why now prefer urethane over anything else, not because they are necessarily more "beautiful" than others but because they are super flat and can fit into basically any doll's eye-wells, even ones with half-closed eyes xD //shot
*U* Ohh, and its always so great to find more color theory enthusiasts! Yeah, color is really soooo important and not a lot of people seem to realize to what a great extent it effects your perception of basically everything you see and how it can be used strategically to enhance everything you create. I totally understand if people don't have the desire or patience to think of everything so complexly, especially their dolls, but I can say that anyone who wants to become a better artist/designer/photographer etc. should ingrain even the basics of color theory in their minds as its applications in any visual media are truly unlimited . xD I admit that the amount of thought I give to color in all of my art/faceups/characters etc. is probably way too convoluted for most people to want to do themselves but the number one thing people compliment me on most in any of those thing is my use of color so I guess i'm doing something right xDD
TwT And thanks for the well wishes that they'll work out. I really do hope so as I just adore both of them as the sculpts they are and i'd hate to even consider having to change either one of them.

Its funny because even after wanting the sculpt for ages I never even considered it as a girl until just before I ordered my own after seeing some owner/faceup artist pictures of the sculpt with a more feminine faceup then stupidly realizing I should have noticed this sculpt was perfect for my girl a long time ago xD

The Mizi head looks really huge beside the Luts event head O__o
If MNF girl bodies do not work proportion-wise, what body are you guys planning to use?
(I am looking for a pre-owned ws MNF body, nontheless)

 

I use a Luts KDF body for my Char and the proportion are pretty good. ;v;

 

So glad to see everybody's order coming home. I'm still waiting for mine, the tracking hasn't updated for more than a week now. I tried contacting flowerandunior about this but they haven't replied yet. :/

 

@Soenatte : Could you please do a comparison shot of your Yabi head next do MNF Body with its head on?

@poochiness : KDF body sounds great. They are more towards Soom LG size, to my mind.

During the past days I looked at different body options and comparison shots with MNF heads on. Beside the MNF body I consider old Souldoll girl body and Withdoll body right now. Tell me, if you like to see the photos I found.
The cheaper bodies usually were not my taste aesthetik wise (except implchild body but thats even slimmer than MNF body)

 

@PoeticSoul thank you so much!! The eye piece is probably one of my favorite doll items period! xD It was intended for a completely different doll when I bought it but once I tried it on Calvaethor it just... clicked. I hope we get to see your Mizi soon~ ;;v;; I got several shots of mine but they were all for a video/photostory I made so they're hardly ideal as standalone pieces to show off ;3;

@Arkelle Wall of text reply mode GO! I had so many unexpected surprises pop up myself... from sculpts that stole my heart like Mizi to dolls I just never thought I'd be given the option to own. It's been pretty much the same for me too, everything had to take a backseat so I could get my hands on important resin people before I could even consider doing something different wuth my money.
And ugh, seriously. I have a few pairs of eyes that are absolutely gorgeous but simply won't look nice in most doll heads I've tried them in.. I keep them around regardless in hopes that they'll eventually fit 'some' head in the long run. And yeah, I technically aim for urethane for the same reason unless I want a very specific design that comes in a different material too. I have a couple pairs from Souldoll myself, and a couple variations of eyes I need I have only found in glass too. For some super narrow, finicky eyeholes I've also resorted to silicone although it can gather dust easily.
I took an entire class on chromatology last year //sob/ I usually hate getting technical but it's really important to ballance colors out otherwise you can't bring out the feeling you want out of pictures and the like. You're most definitely doing it right though, at least I think so! I really can't wait to send you a head to paint ububu >~< it really needs to happen sometime!

@Lythis I use a KDF centaur body for Calvaethor so I'm seconding the Luts suggestion. My Mizi also fit really nicely on my Doll Legend body so you might want to try them out too.

And I agree about those budget-busting resin surprises...darned resin calling my name! It seemed that I was just inundated by that this year. But I've finally shelled all my characters (and then some) so I have a serious plan of "no resin" for 2016. My crew has almost no shoes...I swear it's a household of barefoot resin around here. So next year it's all about collecting shoes and not resin!

And I should add here that I'm currently at a standstill with completing my Mizi...all due to the darned weather. All the art work is done, as is her faceup. All that's left to do is her nails and all the blushing, but the weather for the next couple of days is too damp and too cold for the sealant...and I'm not about to do anything that will wreck all those hours of faceup and artwork. I just have to wait. But I promise she'll be done before the weekend regardless.

 

And hooray! My Mizi, a steampunk inspired automaton, is finally complete. Let me formally introduce you all to Murphy.

Thank you so very much, poochiness. I'm really happy with this girl, especially since I never thought I'd be able to get one. I fell in love with her from creating a character during the writing contest for DoA's anniversary event. She became so real to me, I just had to jump on the chance to get one when she suddenly and unexpectedly became available. She's really been a dream come true for me.

 

@Soenatte thank you for that suggestion. I never cared for Legend Doll but after taking a look, I am stunned by how pretty their bodies are shaped.

I've also... never... before posted something like this on a thread since it's not strictly 'a picture' but 'a picture video' but here you go guys... Shot in approximately half an hour and edited on the fly due to limited time... I'm at least a little satisfied with it. And both my relevant dolls appear in it! xD

So I don't confuse you too much. The vague little encounter chronicles how Euphemia (Mizi) and Calvaethor (Yabi) ran across Alcor (Harucasting Adori), the Sandman's current form, both of them having been former acquaintances of Oneiros; the person he used to be before getting lost in the Fog. Euphemia, having been in love with him prior to the events that led to his segregation, could not bear the loss and so decided to ask for assistance in order to locate him. Cal, who had always been rather scared of the Dream Weaver, eventually caved in to Euphie's pleas to help her look for him and followed her in the wilderness to find him. -- And once I figure out how to compose better videos maybe I'll post a continuation to this xD but for now, this was a bit of fun to make.
