Sculpts you love (but will probably never get) - 2

Apr 23, 2017

    1. Dollfie Dream and other anime-looking dolls! I don't personally want to have one like that (I prefer a little more realism in my dolls) but they're gorgeous to look at! That, and DD is too big for my collection (I tend to stick with 1/4 size).

    2. Tamikan Space! I am in love with their Hybrid and Aua sculpts, they’re so unusual and beautiful and delicate. But they’re only 37-38cm and I really only enjoy dolls in the SD-70cm range, so $400-450 is a lot to gamble on a doll I may not like due to her size. I sure do enjoy photos of them, though! :love

    3. oh... so many SD sized dolls. Dlace especially. I love their dolls, especially Ex. Machina 2.0 and their male medusa head, but between the prohibitive cost and the fact that any dolls bigger than 1/4th scale inexplicably terrify me in person... I do not think any of their dolls will grace my collection. However, I absolutely drool over their promotional images often. Their dolls are incredibly lovely; just not for me. Rugged Realism too. love the dolls, not a fan of their size.

    4. Fantasy dolls are so cool but I doubt I'll ever own one. I've been really tempted by a select few but I could never bring myself to commit - I guess fantasy dolls aren't quite as versatile as regular human ones, and a lot of the time they would require custom clothes or accessories which all seems like a huge pain in the neck, so I'll stick to admiring photos of them online instead.

I also really like the idea of 1/8 and 1/12 scale dolls and love looking at other people's, but will probably never own any either. I'm kind of a bull in a china shop and I can't imagine how clumsy I would be trying to change out the eyes on a teeny tiny little head like that. For me I think 1/6 is as small as I'll go, lol.

    5. Dollshe - especially if bought straight from the company. Gorgeous dolls, terrible customer service and wait times.

Also any centaur dolls - just because of the sheer space they'd take to display in a way that shows the full doll.

    6. I like to look at so many companies - Iplehouse, Souldoll, Doll Valley, Doll Chateau. I like to look but I know I won't buy. I used to think I wouldn't buy any dolls from Luts or Volks or Fairyland...and here I am with a Luts head, 3 Volks dolls, and a Fairyland doll on the way. I think for me - it helps that MOST of my dolls have elf ears and the slightly unrealistic faces. I loved Iplehouse's Elf Ladies but they looked too realistic for me.

I also like looking at Dollfie Dream or Smart Dolls but they are too anime for me. Plus I know my dolls would stain because I don't let them lie around naked.

I do like looking at different fantasy dolls but I do worry about space/how easy is it to break that part. My poor Soom fairies never really wear their fairy wings or legs because I'm too scared my cats will mess them up. (One cat thinks their wigs are toys. Luckily he seems to have forgotten that lately.)

What I enjoy the most is seeing what people have here on this forum! Even if I would never own that doll, I like to look at how everyone styles them and it's inspiring!

    7. SDs for me too, but Switch in particular... I really, really love their head sculpts/style but they're just way too big for me, and I'm not a fan of the muscular male bodies that you tend to find once you're in the SD size range. There's also a ton of artist dolls that I can only describe as statuesque I love to looking at, and I really appreciate the effort it must have taken to sculpt, but I could never picture myself actually owning one.

Also those really art-piece head or toros only dolls, like Dollzone's 'The Moon' or Conarium's candlestick heads — I think they're really beautiful, but I'd personally miss having the ability to pose the doll or change things around too much!

    8. Soooo many. Mostly a lot of bigger dolls because I'm so much more comfortable owning smaller dolls.

I absolutely adore what Nihilum Dolls is doing but a) the smaller doll thing and b) once you include currency conversion it's just out of my price range for something that's not a fullset.

I'm also into the bigger Nothing Sapiens/Tamikan Space alien ladies as they are gorgeous but again, size is too much for me so I live vicariously through others.

Dollshe Orijean. Uugh, I love this dude but he's massive. I also don't think I'd ever buy direct from Dollshe so it means I'm pretty safe if Dollshe ever decides to shrink Orijean down like he's done for other dolls since I also have very specific ideas in mind that would probably be difficult to find second hand. Plus Dollshe discontinued two of the resin tones I was interested in, so again, safe!

Pretty much everything Iplehouse. I love their realism, but I don't think I could own one. I've seen a few of their SID and EIDs in person and they're absolutely gorgeous but between the size, heft and realism I don't think they'd have a place in my collection. They've also discontinued a few of my favourite smaller dolls and I've never seen them up for sale secondhand.

And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head! I'm just very quick to love almost any sculpt, so I tend to be picky when it comes to buying or else I'd have waaaay too many dolls, no space and no money.

    9. Mainly Dollfie Dreams. I adore looking at them and seeing all the amazing things people do with them but I could never own vinyl as I'm too afraid of the inevitable staining. Also any really realistic sculpts like Iplehouse. I owned a Raccoondoll briefly but realized that as gorgeous as they are, I like owning dolls with more stylized features.

    10. There are a lot that I love for their artistic concepts but could absolutely not own, like Doll Chateau for example. They have cool, sometimes a little weird, ideas...but I don't care for the faces or owning dolls that are too weird. I feel too restricted with them somehow? Often a case of "I would like to paint it/I just enjoy the full-set, but don't want it in my house for longer than one photoshoot". Also true for DLace and the like. There are so many dolls/companies I find very inspirational and admire for their ideas, but I prefer to look at their dolls only.
I love looking at anthros and pets as well, like Pipos or any small critters, but once again I just can't imagine myself owning one. The anthros are cool, but I got no use for them, and the pets often feel very limited for their high price. In the end they just stand around and look cute, and that's not enough to live here

I love Dollfie Dreams on photos, but owning one was a little disappointing. The staining issue alone was so incredibly stressful that I sold mine and gave up on it. Some of my favorite doll photographers are DD ones still though (like Azure_TB).

And gawd, I love centaurs, but again something I can never imagine to have in my household. They look and handle so nicely, but eh :sweat

    11. Granado for me. I really love the Mars sculpt that was released a couple years back. I mostly collect anthro bjds and one and in the future two 1/4 size boys. I wouldn't get into the bigger dolls. If they made a 1/4 size of Mars, I would be in heaven!

    12. Years ago when I was a teen It used to be Fairyland. Now that I have minifees I now look at artist dolls like Atelier Momoni and while I appreciate them I don't think I will ever own one. Not because of money but because I don't want to add too many variables in my collection.

    13. oh my! this is the first I've heard of this company but I'm thrilled to find that they're actually my favorite size to collect! I, too, adore their sculpts! (that heart-headed BJD is incredible!!!) Much like Dlace, their dolls are all kinds of creepy and lovely. I'm so happy to have seen your response and learned of these dolls!

    14. For me, it's doll chateau. Their sculpts are beautiful and unique, it's just not the "style" of dolls I feel the need to own. I LOVE looking at owner's photos, though :D

    15. There are plenty of dolls I think are cool, but know won't match the ones I have. Beautiful mature tinies like those by Agatti and Solar Wind. And cool fantasy dolls I'd rather look at than own, or at least, haven't made anything to change my mind yet, like Doll Chateau and Dream Valley. And the occasional one that is perfect, but not the right size or proportion.

And then there are the ones that are simply more expensive than how much I care to own them. I've budged on price when I realized I cared more than I thought, but for others dolls, I'm fine with looking.

    16. I love love looooove the look of fantasy and "strange" dolls (like Doll Chateau, Dream Valley, Soom monthlies), but I haven't seen one that's pushed me over the edge into purchasing. That may change in the future, but nothing yet. I think it's because part of my joy in the doll hobby is playing dressup with my dolls and changing their look, but fantasy is often more restricted in clothing choices due to specialized sculpting. I mean, why would you want to cover up your doll's intricate and cool spider parts?

I also think more realistic sculpts are super beautiful, but not to my personal tastes. Iplehouse comes to mind, as do several smaller artist sculptors. I'm just more into having dolls that have some artistic liberties taken instead of hyper-realism for my own collection.

Oh! And anthro dolls. Again, I like looking at other people's pictures, but they just don't turn my crank enough for me to bite the bullet and order one.

    17. hmm, I don't really know. Perhaps the Popovy Sisters work? Maybe also Soom Idealian, they're really cool and I love the fantasy parts when they have them but I don't really love any of them enough to buy one. For the most part though, if I love a doll, it'll go on my imaginary list of "if money was no object" want to buys.

    18. The dolls I look at the most are the beautiful male dolls. Soom Idealian, Impldoll, Iplehouse etc. But I have veered away from SDs because of limited space, and now only buy MSDs. My dream would be to have a whole room just for dolls, but right now I only have a small bookshelf.
I also admire the creative imagination of Doll Chateau, but they are a bit too freaky for me.

    19. I'm in that boat with a lot of independent artists' dolls... I love the creativity and the diversity of designs, but I know those sculpts wouldn't really fit in well with my own crew. So, I sort of cheer from the sidelines and encourage other people to go for them.

    20. Although I really want one, I just can't see myself springing for a minifee. I love their size and that currently the have the market on clothes and accessories (for when I can build room boxes) but that's not enough for me to buy them. Same for artist sculpts. I'd love to get one sculpt from all the indie sculptors...I really want a Silk from Nyx's Creations and a Boudi from Boudi doll and Nathan from Nihilum dolls and a Trompette from La Compagnie de Radis and and and....just have to save
