It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Seeing the doll that you love in gore mod, how to you act?

Feb 27, 2010

    1. "Seeing the doll that you love..."

No, sorry. While I may be fond of particular sculpts, even very fond, I have no problem separating the ones that I own from tbe sculpt at large. The only dolls I LOVE are mine, and they are more than a sculpt. They're a whole amalgam of sculpt, body, wig, eyes, faceup, clothing choices, and a considerable amount of backstory. Even forgetting the backstories, there's no way another doll is "a version of my own doll" unless someone goes to tbe trouble to duplicate all the components of my doll, (including age-changes, damages, etc.). Unlikely. So basically, unless someone is forcibly holding down MY doll and modding it right in front od me, I don't see any big controversy to anguish over.

Someone else's doll, someone else's taste, not my business or problem. Honestly, these wannabe controversies are the "bad thread-mods" of a discussion subforum!

    2. Well, I would stamp my little feet, cry a lot, then swoon onto my fainting couch with the sheer hideousness of the injustice, of course. /JK

      Ahem, no.
I know the difference between MY Migidoll Jina and other people's Migidoll Jinas, for example. It gives me no problem whatsoever to see what other people do with a sculpt I happen to like.
Bad aesthetics bother me more than gore mods, to be honest.

    3. One time I felt I really should not keep two identical sculpts in different skin colors. The heart knows what it wants (both dolls) but I felt I should not keep them both. When I sold her she was in excellent condition with a pristine default face-up I paid a lot for. Buyer paid her full sales price including the extra price for this excuisite perfect face-up. I really was bonded to this doll and felt sick when I shipped her.

Next time I saw her she was horror gore modded. And it was NOT done well either. A good horror gore mod takes as much work and skill as any other mod, and I could have dealt with that. but this was just hacksawing and a bottle of red acrylics.

Seeing her like that, made me cry. And not sell any dolls for a long time.

    4. Whether or not it's a sculpt that's the same of one of mine, or a doll that I might have re-sold, I think I would find it interesting to see what was done to it. (Granted, that does depend on the level of skill.) I love gore mods. If I could afford it, I'd buy a doll specifically to get it gore modded. It appeals to my particular taste in art and what-have-you.

    5. I wouldn't care at all. It's not as if it's my doll with a gore mod so I really don't see why I would mind. Getting upset over a gore mod is just the same as getting upset over a face-up you don't fancy on the same doll mold as you have and that would be pretty ridiculous.

    6. I like gore mods. I think I would like to see a gore mod on some of the dolls I want, actually. Just not Mr. OT, that would just be... disturbing. He's too cute for a gore mod :(

    7. If it is only a scar-, wound- or other less heavy mod, then I like looking at them (I am even planning something like that myself for one of the dolls I like). But not burns that change the whole look of the dolls face, for example. Most gore mods, even executed masterfully, are a bit too much for me. The main reason why I am not much into these is that they take away some versatility of the doll in my opinion - but this really doesn't matter if they are executed on a doll I like or on one I don't care about.

    8. I don't like gore mods...they gross me out but it doesn't bother me because they are not my dolls.

    9. I don't actively look for gore mods, but I have seen plenty and I don't mind them as much as I used to.

If I saw one of my dolls as a gore mod, I really wouldn't think anything of it. Sure, I dislike gore mods, but I don't see a point in getting upset about it. This person didn't steal my doll and modify it - if that happened (which I doubt it would), then I'd get upset, but about more than just the modifications. I don't know what character their doll is supposed to represent, so it might be a relevant modification, or it might just be a form of artistic expression that just happens to be lost on me.

When I first discovered gore mods, some of them held an 'ick' factor to me. I ended up being exposed to more gore mods later on, and that 'ick' feeling isn't there anymore.

    10. I love seeing gore mods, I think it shows that the doll dosen't have to be all cutesy looking

    11. I have to agree with light-hearted (minus the vomiting). I think it would be disturbing to see a sweet little fairy or tiny Puki gored. It would bother me because they are so sweet and child-like.

Gore mod'ed older age dolls might not disturb me as much... or ones that are creepy cute, but I still think the more gross ones are a bit of a waste of a pretty doll.

But it is everyone's choice as to what makes them happy.

    12. i love gore mods~ i would gore mod half of my dolls if i wasn't too much of a coward to attempt it.. closest i have is some gore face-ups and scars on my dolls.

when i see gore-or-other-cool-mods of dolls i have/love it makes me jealous. xD

it makes me a bit sad that so many people absolutely hate gore on dolls, but i know there are some dolls i feel that way about (not going to name any) and lots of other people still love them, so i just accept that everyone has different tastes.

    13. I loveee gore mods. I want to get gored up versions of all my BJDS (once I'm rich, famous, or at least of legal employment age.), but I could never mod the "original,". I'd be cast out of my family and such things if they ever saw my MSD with fleshless hands of my SD with tally marks cut all over his body.... But I live them, ongreyelephant's are my special favorites.

    14. I like looking at well-made gore mods. Haven't seen one of a doll I also own, though.
There are, however, some mods that look *so* bad, that I really feel pity for the poor doll. I think that if I ever see a doll I also own with a really bad gore mod (or any really bad modification), I'd go and cuddle its twin.

    15. I've seen quite a few well done gore/disfigured mods of sculpts which I own, and I think it's awesome, though it's unlikely I'll collect those types. Really, things that make me cringe would be dolls that have been carelessly cared for, and it shows.

    16. I think it's great to see all of the different things people do with BJDs - no matter what sculpt it is, and no matter if it's gorey or not! I wouldn't mind it at all. :)

    17. it's more horrible to me to see a sculpt i like with a really ugly face up than with a gore mod (when the modding is well done).

i'm found of viewing good gore mods, no matter what sculpt they are made of.

    18. Depends on the doll. If it was something super rare I might have a pang of grief. But, you know, what's done is done and it isn't my doll to fret over. Depending on how extreme the mod, there's no easy way to revert it and it doesn't matter anyway because it isn't mine.

But if it was just a readily available doll I happened to like a lot? No big deal. Not my doll, so not really my business.

I like gore mods for the most part, but not really enough to ever want one. I enjoy viewing the well done ones.

    19. I'd actually love to see some gore mods applied to sculpts that I own, just out of morbid curiosity. I don't know if I'd ever get around to doing gore mods on my own dolls (though I once debated giving Hansel stigmata wounds on his hands and feet), but I wouldn't mind seeing what they look like on familiar sculpts. My personal favorite type of gore modding though is when someone uses them to cover up cracks or epoxy fill-ins from other failed mods. I think it really adds character to the doll itself and I wouldn't be at all upset if one of my dolls chipped or broke, because I'd dive straight into planning out a new wound or scar to make out of it.

    20. I love gore mods!
I would not have a problem seeing my dolls mould modded that way.

One thing I love about BJDs is that two of the exact same doll will never be exactly alike with two different owners.
That's why I don't have problems with mods.
