1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Self control on $ when it comes to BJD....

Mar 29, 2007

    1. Ahhh... I can't really be impulsive, not with big things. I lived to long by myself making house payments and barely paying utilities for that to happen! In fact, even after I had sold my house I had a good $3,000 in my account for profits, but that all went to helping out my (now) hubby after I had moved in with him.

I finally caved in and ordered a Domuya Fin because she was such a great price (before that I had been seriously trying to save up for a Soom Kyrie), and that was after deliberating a month while the site was down! I do kind of regret not being able to get free wigs and eyes (I would just sell any free head I had gotten, so that doesn't bother me so much) but I think I am more satisfied with this purchase as opposed to just snatching up some random dollie on impulse. My hubby is happy as well, because I've finally quieted down about buying a doll every five and a half minutes.

    2. :) I buy when l got the $ to do so but there are time that l over draf my bank account due to buying stuff for charles and mini moon.

    3. I think I've been rather impulsive when it comes to my resin roomies, especially lately.... I reaaly spent a lot of time planning and saving for my first doll, and she was all I had to almost a year inwhich refused to even let myself look at other dolls, but then as of late I've seen that I have extra money and I see a doll that I would really love and suddenly I have them... Although I do make sure that I can truly afford to buy them before I do.

    4. I consider my shopping for items and clothes and things impulse, but no one else would. In fact, I drive my friends nuts by sitting there for hours, or even days, torturing myself over whether or not it's worth it.

My doll, however... months of agonizing over whether or not to hit "purchase". Drove my best friend nuts, because she spent from May to the end very end of July this year with a constant refrain of "Buy Er buy Er buy Er." She practically tackle-hugged me when I told her I finally had bought him.

    5. lol lets just say my Self control sucks I need to work on it but I can't help but buy when I see a cute doll X3

    6. I'm quite impulsive but I know when I can't afford things. So I'm a little on the fence with this one. I wish I had more self control some days. xD

    7. I'm impulsive in that I love window shopping for stuff for my dolls, but when it comes to buying....eh. I'm picky XD It took me a very long time to find a shirt that my girl likes, and I just bought it yesterday. This is after months of looking :( Having bills to pay definitely makes me think twice about impulse buying for the dolls too...

    8. Yes when it comes to dolls. No when it comes to crafting supplies.

    9. I'm definitely in the first category.

Right now I'm limited on funds so have to save my money carefully. Sometimes I get sidetracked and make an impulse purchase, though. When that happens it'll just take me longer to order what I originally set out to save for.

I won't buy something I can't afford. It's as simple as that. I hate, hate, HATE having a balance on my credit card and won't succumb to the temptation to accumulate debt for luxury items (sometimes it's unavoidable RE: medical expenses, unexpected car repair, etc.)

    10. I'm the opposite, I overthink every purchase and have missed out on a few outfits and even dolls because of it (and I kick myself for not buying it when I can't find it for sale later :doh)
I've only lost to my self-control in this hobby once (for Nadeko's DollHeart Cherry Romance set) and I don't regret it one bit!

    11. impulsive! just fell for impldolls facebook freehead event! just have to pay for shipping!

    12. I try hard to have self control.................. because otherwise I'd spend money I will need for more important things in the future.
However, honestly, due to holding back I've missed out a lot on things I've wanted. Limited dolls, clothing items that are sold out and gone for good............. in those times I really wish I had just given in and bought them when I had the chance.

A good mixture of both is probably best.

    13. I waited for a good few months on my first doll and a special happened. I saved a lot of money. Right now I'm trying to fight an urge for a Holiday event. I did some research and found that company does the same event every year, the free doll you can get is just different each time so.. I decided to wait for next year. And hope the doll is still available then. No doubt I will have funds I am willing to spend by then.

    14. I would never impulse buy, the last thing I want is to receive a doll and regret buying it. But, I can't say I have any patience when it comes to saving up, and seeing as I can't yet get a job (due to my age) my selection for dolls has to be $250 and under. I save for months before even being able to buy a doll in that price range.

    15. I have good self control so I only have one doll. When it comes to props though, it's a whole different story...

    16. I don't impulse buy as much as I did. I've got quite a number of dolls so, if I buy a doll, it is because it fits the rest. I impulse-buy on accessories like wigs, shoes, eyes, and craft supplies mostly especially when they are at a discount. Though I have so much of them now, that this has slowed down too.

    17. For me, it's waiting xD I have a hard time impulse buying anything. I always plan what I want to buy, or think about it for at least a few days before purchasing. With dolls, I'm going the layaway route. Even if I had the cash on hand for a doll, I would still put it on layaway just to spread out the costs.

    18. I used to be completely terrible with self-control, I am such an impulsive spender, and often pursued this hobby with my heart. Whenever I had money, I put it into new dolls. Circumstances have changed a lot in the ten years I've been involved in BJD, and I don't have funds like I used to, and I've been working very hard on the self-control thing. It isn't easy, but you can't spend what isn't there, haha.

    19. I do both. I have spotted a must have and gotten the doll immediately, and other times I have hemmed and hawed for ages deciding about getting someone.

    20. Honestly, if I had the money, or not, I would buy a Poison Girl doll so quick. But I literally have 0 dollars so xD So reckless~
