1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Serendipity Mini including Sharmin discussion thread

Feb 21, 2005

    1. Does anyone have any good links to clear idiot-proof instructions on how to go about sueding and wiring her?

    2. Aimee's FAQ I don't think has a link like that, unfortunately. (T__T) You need to unstring her to suede her. Wiring is just shoving plastic or nylon coated wire through the joints. Try to get it through the ankles and hands too, it will help.

To help with too tight stringing, to free up a little bit of room, do you know how old skin super dollfies had feet and hands attached? By a different set of string attached to the hook on the hand and feet. I don't know how to explain it better.

But find a picture of how the old skin hands and feet are attached and you know what I mean.

      Good luck~

    3. I have the exact same problem with Cara Mia. Everyone here just jokes that she's a ninja. I'm going to try wiring her; it would be great to get her to stand up!

    4. ive noticed Serendipity strings very tight. my Shall with alot of play finally eased up and is easier to use. But it sounds like your girl is strung so tight she needs to be restrung - but try moving her alot to ease her up first if you want. Restringing for the first time is really scary, ill admit - but its worth it in the long run.

    5. Ohh I'm getting Avowal Alice soon and I hope she isn't tooo tight either!

Let me know how it goes! :D

    6. How is thesauros as a seller? They own dollndoll.com right? I'm going to buy an Avowal Alice from them, can you remember if they marked down the price on the customs form?

      ^_^ Thanks!

    7. I have a Serendipity Noel and she was the same.
I wired her recently and it made quite the difference: she actually poses now! I'd really recommend wiring. It's amazing the difference it makes. :D

    8. I was brave and took her apart, loosened the elastic that goes to the legs and it has made a big difference. Not as hard as I thought it would be. I put her back together without any problems except...

I could not figure out what was up with her arms which were being wierd then I noticed I switched sides on the upper arms, so they are backwards WHOOPS! lol I will take her apart again tommorow and fix that as well as wire and suede her joints with moleskin.

So anyone too scared to restring, it is no big deal. If I can figure it out with only one minor fixable error  then anyone can.

    9. congratulations on getting her restringed! I was gonna say, with serendipity dolls, everything is pretty self explanitory (or at least with the new style bodies).

I think wiring has made a bigger difference in serendipity dolls than a lot of other dolls i've seen, since they're really waifish and can be hard to get into position, but once they're loosened up and wired, it just makes her perfect! heheh.

    10. I missed this, but Ann got it! :D

I can't remember what those are called either... But they work so well! I had some left over from when I shared a dorm apartment with my former roommate (we're both singling it up this year). I also used it to line medicine cabinets, too. They also carry this stuff at Target and Walmart.

Ooh, that's a great idea - holding it down with a rubber band...! I like it. ^_^ *goes finds some rubber bands*

    11. Has anyone that owns a Serendipity had problems getting the cap/scalp off their heads?

I bought my girl back in April and I still have not been able to remove her scalp, there is a horrid creaking noise that happens when I attempt it and I never go any further out of fear of breaking the poor doll.

If possible, could someone also give step-by-step info on how to open a Serendipity head?

      Thanks.

    12. The headcap can be removed two ways, depending on when your girl was made:

      1. "Old" style: metallic snaps.
      2. New style: magnets.

As far as I know, Sharmin is the only one with headsnaps, since she was made first, though newer Sharmin's have received an "upgrade."

I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. Just get in there and get it off! Your doll will not break or shatter. ^^ Just grasp the head from behind and use your nails to lift the headcap off.

    13. Thanks. I am thinking Noel may not have magnets as it really is extremely hard to budge that cap. I do not have nails, but have used other things to try and open the scalp to no avail.

    14. My Noel has snaps too and alice has magnets, which girl do you have?

    15. Noel, I am thinking she has snaps as well.

How did you manage to open your Noel's head?

    16. I have a Shall that I got in Febuary and she has snaps ^_^ just tug slightly straight back on the headcap and it should come off! :daisy

    17. Very easy to open the head, you can either hold the face part and pull the top or just gently take a butter knife and pry inbetween. there are 2 snaps one at the top and one at the base of the neck. They are metal snaps like on a piece of clothing, the unsnap really easily. :chibi

    18. Thanks :)

    19. I was wondering what size shoes Sharmin is able to wear? I know they make specific sized Sharmin shoes, though I have only found one or two online stores that do so, but is she able to wear other sized shoes? Also where is the best place to find them, what is recommened? ~Thanks

    20. I don't know about any other brands really, but I do know that Teen Trends shoes fit Sharmin dolls very well. :D
