SOOM 2011 Monthly Doll Speculation thread

I don't think Soom ever posted it on-site, I shall take a look, but I've heard from people who asked Soom/have been to the Soom store that the original sculptor/original art team have all moved on since the 'golden era' of Soom fantasy. Now I don't know if that includes the tiny line, as I'd heard they had a different sculptor altogether, but that was for the original MD SG line.

I am hoping that they come out with a super gem monthly that's green tinted (actually any tint really) like the little centaurs they released as an SO. I've been waiting for a big monthly to have a little bit of an off skin tone for a while now. Something different than white grey and tan.

 

that's really interesting stuff thanks for sharing that, it would make sense also more sculpters in the pot would produce more variety and bounce ideas from each other, from what I can tell, like a handwriting style, the sculpts are now more uniform and the fantasy parts less 'risky' - ie no more scorpians or crab (?) hands for example

been lucky that I like hooves (myself) but now I have a Chalco and Amber (and perhaps an Adamelli) and birdy feet (Heliot and Galena) I am, personally, in no rush to repeat ... and now really curious what this Bazael will have feet-wise (keep wishing to type Razael there, lol)

 

Yes, it would be nice to see other fantasy parts. But Vesuvia (for instance) didn't sell well-- not on the primary market, anyway! I think Soom's thinking is as simple as "Hooves sell. Make more hooves." And, "This feminine--looking male sold well. Make more."

The style of Soom's male sculpts supports this as well. I would assume 2011 is well past Soom's "golden era." But they used the same sculptor through the golden era to this February (and Ender). During the Jun Hye Eun period Soom males became less and less unique. I don't think it's about the artist being out of ideas, or having a particular style. I think it's heavy-handed art direction (from above). Maybe that's why he left.

Soom really needs to do more market research, I think, and find out what Soom lovers really want. Step one would be avoiding the comment board for each doll release. I have to wonder how many of the folks complaining there actually buy their dolls.

Soom seems to have removed the Young Artist category from the gem site. That's unfortunate-- I wonder if their artists' academy is also defunct.

Aha! I was right about July's girl being a demoness. She has an extremely pretty, almost sweet face for a demon. She'll be a must have if she comes in WS!

Of course this means that September's boy will almost certainly be an angel winged male!

 

Comparing her pics to Bazael, she's looking mighty purple, but maybe not sparkly like Vesuvia. I will squee so hard if that's the case. I know everyone seems to be bored of hooves, but that's what I'm hoping for.

An angelic male would be amazing, I'm a sucker for horns and hooves and wings.

 

Very happy to see a different resin color this time around! Soom has been doing it with the fairies. Not so much on the big guys.

She is pretty much what I was expecting them to do, yet at the same time never thought they would, if that makes sense! ^_^;;
Like, I knew it would be a demon girl, and I knew I was going to be doomed ... but purple resin was just a dream, I never saw it happening!

I'm hoping for CLAWS. Already have Cuprit with hooves, and still want a Beryl to be her partner.
Now Migma will be the opposing force to Nephelin (in my head anyway xD), so it would be cool if they both had claws.. though a different type of claws.
Something on a point like Breccia (or the MSD kitty)'s feet would be awesome. I love how elegant it makes the leg look. That.. as a claw.

Anyway, yes, I think an angel boy is next!
I was saying recently, Soom needs to change their ways because people like me are always frustrated that the girls are always angelic and pretty, while the boys are always much more fun. I imagined that the reverse must exist too - people who love angelic sweet boys and never get them.
Now they've finally done a darker girl (though her faceup still can't compare to the boy faceups), an angelic boy HAS to happen!

 

...whoa O_O She's amazing! I want her body for my dragon project. I hope it's offered in white skin!

 

I would love to see a Angel Male SG come next, I hope there will be a choice of skin tone options as well. I can just picture those wings being huge and massive in white.

 

If she is demon like, I hope to God she has Monzo/Breccia like feet, and not like Bazael. I didn't care for his feet design. Not to say the artist/sculptor didn't do a great job, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Crap, first Zinc and now Migma. I'm being SOOMed all over again...

Edit: I'm looking at her wings and what I can see of her horns, and they appear to be more stylized like Monzo's, and not Bazael, and not just in terms of transparent resin. I'm getting more hopeful she'll be more like Monzo than Bazael, which means there's a 99.99% chance this girl will be mine! Doesn't help I've been waiting for another SOOM female I've like for a LONG time! So many girls I passed on because they just didn't wow me...

 

Ah, Migma is beautiful! I hope they can keep up this trend of offering heads with different facial expressions (other than "normal" and "sleepy"). It's so much more fun! Also happy to see she's got interesting clawed feet as well - they're quite cool.

Also, nobody said angelic boys need to be sweet. Angels are actually supposed to be tough warriors, aren't they? And the way they've been uh... describing the "good" gods in the character background stories, they don't sound all too sweet either. I'm hoping for a warrior angel man! That would be pretty awesome.

 

So true, I don't want a pleasant, book-reading angel, I want a takin' names, boot-stompin' angel.

I wholeheartedly second Lelite and heidipay's "tough angel" suggestions! A strong warrior angel would be very hard to resist.

Also, if they're going to keep releasing dolls with animal/fantasy parts I really wish they'd go back to the 3 jointed legs. Don't get me wrong, my Nephelin's legs are so sleek and elegant! But imagine what Nephelin/Bazael/Migma would look like if they could crouch.

 

It would also be nice if the fantasy feet could bend at all so that their toes aren't sticking up like little kids' when they sit...
Actually, it would be nice if Soom revisited all of their jointing. I have never handled such a poorly posing doll as my Super Gems.

 

Now THIS I would buy in a heartbeat.

I loved Migma too. I just didn't have the money, nor do I really have a character for her. But a warrior angel man? Oh the possibilities are endless for me! XD *has a feeling I'm going to be SOOMed again*

 

AnchixDPx my dear friend u will be able to see my migma when she comes in and i agree omfg if soom comes out with a angel man and hes a worrior i am so dead it will be the end of me all my ones are gonna be from soom at this rate if they keep killing me.

 

This is curious. I just randomly wandered by the Fairy House site and, according to the translation, the August Monthly Doll will be a Super Gem male!

It says '2010 blog' but the date on the post is July 17th, 2011.

I would not consider this good as I have too many layaways and a major trip next month. I rather hope they mean September or are really talking about the Special Order doll since I don't think there are many left that I would want.

 

What??? Not tinies for August? URgh, I sure hope it isn't any boy I want to bring home. I'm still paying off my Chrom! OTL
