Soom Gem Order Chance: Special Order - Speculation & Discussion Thread Part II

If anyone's interested, I've just started a general Soom Super Gem discussion thread for people with older MDs and SOs, as well as basics. There's been a sort of gap there, discussion-wise, but I don't know how much interest there will be in it. Still, if you want to talk about your Dias, and Lupins, and MD or SO Beryls, etc, you can do so there.

*quiet sigh goes here* Considering just how impressively we're getting screwed by work lately, I think she's going to fall by the wayside for me. A shame, because she's an amazing sculpt, and she's a stunner in NS.

Wow! Soom's special orders are such a surprise now! Tinies aren't my thing, but they did a beautiful job with the two new SO.

 

My MD Cass is a boy lol.
I'd die for a York right about now...but would totally settle for Breccia like so many others :P

 

Two at once is a sign that they indeed want to get through with the six tinies in a row fast to release another large SO ^^
I could bet it will be Breccia, Lethanon! But I hope she isn't coming too soon, because then I'd have to pass and miss out on her, savings still being strongly affected by the August MD - so yeah Soom do the six tinies first please!

Cass is still there. So they managed to squeeze the tinies in this month, after all. I know better than to hope for Bix in September (or October) because I may actually have money for him by then.

 

...yup. And since she was still there... and work finally untangled... yeah, I was so doomed. She's seriously gorgeous in NS. I'm surprised they put the tinies up if she's still up -- but then, she might not be flying out the door. I wasn't going to take that chance, though!

 

Alk/Yrie? The hits just keep on coming this is both a fantastic and devastating month, I still really, really want to start a layaway for Iple's Claude before the month is out so idk. Reckon these two will be a quick sale as well, unlike Cass! I knew she was an acquired taste but wow. About 40+ left, I hope they still cast her (though this being Soom I doubt it'd come to that) and on the bright side, I imagine some people are glad to have the time to save up for a first payment or whatever.

 

There were a couple of others that lingered on for quite a while, so it probably shouldn't be a huge issue. It's a shame, too -- she's a lovely girl, especially in the NS.

 

Galena stuck around for a bit. I think the more popular sculpts tend to attract the scalpers. . . At least if they do take a little time to sell out people who actually want the doll can still get it. Also, it seems like there's a lot more competition for attention and money among the companies (so many LEs ) that I suppose people want to wait and make sure something they like better isn't going to show up.

 

Unfourtantely, this is the case, as was with Vesuvia. My issue all the time is wondering, as you said, if the next sculpt will be better than this and I'll be out of luck as I just purchased the last beautiful doll. Soom can't ever give us a break!!

 

Much agreed. The other two SOs I nabbed were two of the 'sold out in minutes' ones, but they're not budging from this house. Granted, both were ones people either missed when they were originally released and have pined for (Amber and Vesuvia) so there were a lot of people who really wanted them (myself included) lunging for them like mad at the time. I suspect the scalpers would have had the same shot as the die-hard-wanters for those. Seems like everyone prepares for the mad dash now.

 

I think it is good for the ones who want Cass that they have more time to plan the money for her now. But at the same time I am a little bit afraid that if she and the next couple of SO dolls don't go as well as the last ones (and speaking of the Large size range, the REALLY popular sculpts have all been rereleased now, haven't they? Except maybe Epidos, he seems rather popular too), that Soom will stop the SO releases and I never get to buy a Shoshon (in CW! please please Soom! and Breccia, and Grit/Syen...).

Another question that came to my mind: Does anybody know if it is possible to buy multiple of the same SO? For example, could a "scalper" buy like, 10 or 15 at once? (what a horrible image...)

 

Well, yes, if they get the order in fast enough and have the money to pay for 10 or 15 Soom dolls, they can. There's no limit on how many you can add to your cart, though I suspect Soom would be rather put-out figuring out how to deliver them. I can say for the white-hot dolls like the Vesuvias and the Ambers, they sold out in under a minute, and I am highly sceptical that anyone would be able to process an order with so many dolls, as many people just trying to get one were shut-out.

Add to that the fact that you never really know what doll's going to be super-awesome on the after-market, and it's a little fraught with peril to take over ten thousand dollars, potentially, and buy a whole pile of dolls. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I would think it's less likely to happen with an SO doll than with a regular monthly doll that has an order period, but no limit. Of course, who knew at the time (well I suspected but I was also flat broke) that MD Vesuvia would be so dang desirable a couple of years later? You can never say for sure!

And as for me, I both hope and continue to fear they release SO Bix...Yes Soom, do it! Nooooo Soom, don't do it to me!!

I highly doubt anyone would buy 10 or 15 of any doll just to resell them. But. . . take a chance on snagging one that's likely to be popular so that they could flip it for a few hundred dollars profit? That I can see. It's a bit easier with the SOs because all you have to do is go to Soom's site and see how many are begging for a particular rerelease.

The thing I liked about Bix as an MD, besides his wonderful face, was his outfit! His crab-claw just made me hungry.

 

I'm still looking at Cass, She's so beautiful but I just can't afford her, especially after I just shoveled all of my money out for a Beryl. I wish I had enough to get her still. Topaz took a really long time to sell out too, and I hardly see any of her SO second hand. I fear the same will happen with Cass.

Though I thought for sure that Alk and Yrie were going to sell out fast since they are so rare around the MP, but they are still standing as well...

I just hope Breccia doesn't come out soon x__x MY WALLET NEEDS A REST.

 

So, the next SO will be on sale like through the middle of september now?

 

Yes, probably... I guess the earliest they could release it would be around the 8th of September, from what I think to remember with the other SO release dates. But around the 15th is more probably.
