1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Idealian 51 Discussion

Mar 4, 2011

    1. Many many thanks for that! I don't think that high heeled girly/ladylike shoes fit properly, but if you have boots?

    2. Yes, they sort of unisex boots!

    3. I somehow missed the fact that this Gluino was a 51 *head desk*. I'm in serious debate with myself over whether to pull the trigger on him. I had a couple of questions for Soom (which they've answered) and figured I'd share in case anybody else was wanting to know.

I asked about which head was which, but that's already been answered here.
I asked about the shade of grey and they directed me to the Gluino Mechanic version as the shade of grey for this release.
      Wig size is 6.5

I do have a question that I hope somebody here could answer for me. I'm not super keen on the teeth but I need the romantic eyes for the character this sculpt would be. What would be the easier thing to change/work around; downplay the teeth via the way the face-up is painted or mod the basic eyes to be partially closed/do something with the face-up to give the sculpt a more half-lidded look?

    4. @Iron_Dog A talented person can remove those vampire fangs away but it may need some putty, I have seen couple of Iplehouse vampires with removed teeth but the mouth stays open of course. Also people can put epoxy on his eyes, but that always needs some tricks as well so the white/green putty can be covered and hidden under the faceup. Also, his teeth are positioned a way that there may be marks after removing process which needs to be sanded smooth (he will lost volume of his low lip for sure... as teeth are pushing his lips deeply) or his lips could be fixed with epoxy, covered with paint and full again. Both ways needs experienced and very talented person as the head is ridiculously small and of course bigger fangs, eyes dont need that insanely small tools as this guy needs.. like a dentist for tiny little human ;)

Small addition/edit: i checked his fangs and seems they are not so deep inside or pushing his lips so maybe carving them away with small tools are possible without damaging his low lip too much?

    5. I think it's the quite open mouth that is giving me issues. I have some dolls with slightly open mouths but none with one that looks as open as the romantic head. *sigh* looks like I'm going to really have to think about the final look I need for the character and how difficult the mods would be for somebody to do for me. On the plus side, I have had a doll with a smaller head (size 5 wig) get a 3rd eye mod that turned out gorgeous so I know there is a lot of possibility out there if you can find the right modder.

    6. Just discovered this morning that the Xmas kit part of the sale is done and the price has been jacked. Gluino is still available until Jan.5th, he just costs more now *grrrrrrr*. I'm pretty ticked about that as I can't find anywhere that said the Xmas kit version was limited in time for the order period that's to end on the 5th. I've checked through the news threads here on DoA as well as BJCollectasy (both back to the end of Nov. and... nothing). Nothing on the Soom site itself either about the Xmas kit price ending sooner than the actual sale.

The increase for me since I need the grey skin version is $116.10US. This becomes painful with the horrible exchange rate on the Canadian dollar. If I'd have known the Xmas kit sale ended before the actual sale, I'd have made my move. I guess, on the upside, I wouldn't have to string him and he'd come in a fancy box, but... yeah, irritated right now.

    7. @Iron_Dog

The sites let me add the Xmas Gluino to cart ( USA and EU both ) just like all this time and there is no single thing which would stop us purchasing him? Not even sold out icon? Try a different browser?

The prices are also same as before, Xmas cheaper.

    8. Okay, so apparently I'm an idiot *head desk*. The Xmas kit is listed under the Special Doll tab now. I'm sorry for any panic I may have caused with my earlier post. I am going to completely blame it on the fact that I hadn't had any coffee at that time and was totally fuzzy-headed.

    9. ...you're cute when you're fuzzy-headed. ;)

    10. I'll take that *nods*. Now to just decide which head I'll go with and if I'm going to pull the trigger on this guy. I don't want to have a raging case of the regrets as I did when I passed on the Hyperon Damphir in this size.

    11. Ddoes anyone know if which size of clothes would better fit ID51 boys? SD13 (or 1/3) or MSD (1/4)
ID51 being 51 is awkwardly between the 2 sizes *sigh* :P
I'm surprised their head size per SOOM website is 17cm... that would be 6 inches? O.O that's interesting... having the same size head circumference as my 25cm doll XD

    12. I'd asked Soom about wig size for the Gluino and they said he takes a 6.5. I assume that's the size across the board for other ID51's.

    13. the only wig in my vast collection since 2004 that really fits my guy is one I bought with him made by soom.
everything else is poufy in the back or comes down over his eyes.
      6.5 is not 6-7.
so if you can find a slightly stretchy, not too round 6.5 wig, that might work.
      otherwise, he's a bit anime head-wise.
I gave up and made two for him.

      8-)

    14. In your opinion, would it be better to buy a 5/6 and hope it's stretchy enough or get a 6/7 and take it in a little to make it work?

I'll need to get this guy a wig and there's a Monique one he must have. I'm not worried/afraid of re-working a wig (although that can be a pain) as I have sized down an 8/9 to a 6.5 for one of my RS boys. I have several Monique wigs and I can't say they've been very stretchy but the are also in rather small sizes (3, 4 and 5) so stretchy wouldn't work well for those to begin with.

    15. hey, @Iron_Dog. 5-6 will be too small, so go for the 6-7. for example, the Monique Buttercup in 6-7 comes down over his eyes like crazy but fits very well otherwise.
so, depending on the style you might just need to do some trimming. :wiggle
the Monique Gold wigs aren't as thick so a lot of the poof can be avoided.

    16. Cool. Thanks for the advice. I'd be getting him the dreadlock wig. If need be, I don't have a problem putting a few pin tucks in a wig to tighten it up a bit f necessary. That's super easy.

Still haven't decided on how I'm doing payments on this guy (full or layaway) and I need to go digging through my eyes to see if I still have a particular pair or sold them *scratches head*. I am getting pretty excited about this though even if my wallet is crying.

    17. Took the plunge today (happy new year to me!). Paid in full for the Gluino Xmas kit in grey resin with the romantic head. Very excited about this purchase. I have 2 other Soom dolls (fairy boys) but this will be my first direct from Soom purchase. Not looking forward to having to string him, but it's not the end of the world.

Need to buy his wig now and maybe eyes. I found the eyes I was looking for in my eye stash but I don't think they're right for him although they are very nice. I did find a pair I like for a very reasonable price on Etsy so it'll probably happen. Now to start saving up (again) for his partner.

    18. @Iron_Dog Congrats! I sold a body and was also able to snatch him up. The Xmas kit pricing is so so good. Wanted Grey and White twins but my wallet said no >.>

I will live vicariously through your gray skin boy XD.

    19. The Xmas kit price was definitely something I appreciated, especially as the CAN$ sucks pretty hard right now with regards to exchange rate. Truthfully, it's probably a good thing that they don't do the kits all the time as I'm perfectly willing to take that sort of price reduction for the little bit of the PITA involved in stringing a doll.

I have an incredible weakness for grey skinned dolls. This guy will make grey doll #6 for me.

    20. We had a gray skin Phonolus for some time but he wasn't working with our crew (probably because of his fantasy parts). Are they grey skin Sooms or other company? Would love to see them regardless if you have a quick picture! :D
