Soom MD April 2010: Monzo - 'Stone Heart'

Apr 19, 2010

    1. His body seems somewhat like the Idealian. I keep comparing the pictures....LOL.
      .

    2. He's got too much going on. His face is okay but bordering on being an Iplehouse style face, the ripped chest cords are a bit terrifying and his muscled arms make them look too short on his torso. I think Soom should have followed the classic rule of fashion to take off one element before leaving the house, but maybe they should have simplified two or three things rather than one.

His wings are very cool but there's no way that big guy can fly with those tiny practically vestigial wings. He's like an elephant with seagull wings. They'd look great on a mini size doll or a petite 60cm doll but they look silly on Mega man.

Just my two disappointed cents. hrumph.

    3. Well, I guess if Soom's plan was to capture a different customer group than they already had, they've hit their mark. :|
I like his face. I like the concept of his wings. I wish I could say I liked anything else.
I don't like my dolls to look like they should be hanging from a meat hook. *shakes fist at Iplehouse*

    4. I guess that's why they invented sandpaper. ;) It won't work on the fantasy colors, but I'd have fun playing with customizing the body. Can't do anything about the plugs in his back though. That's the only real turn off in the body for me.

    5. This made me laugh, since I practically recoiled when I first saw them. I adore muscles, but the bodybuilder, Schwarzendolly pecs really are way too much for me.

Still, I like the fact that Soom has come out with two new male body types in the space of one month - and that both are so different than their usual aesthetic. It's not as though this is the only direction they'll go from now on. Not everyone is going to be crazy about any one type, so the more there are, the better it is for collectors.

    6. LOL Thankyou for the mental image, I'm trying to picture an elephant taking flight with a teensy pair of wings and it is highly amusing.

But I must agree with you, it's like they tried to cram way too much into one doll. Perhaps introducing the Mega Gem body as a MD was a bit much. Should they have waited? :\ Or I personally think they should have left him with human ears, the horns are neat and all but they seem like a bit much, something simpler would have sufficed. Or even no horns at all? It seems like each of their monthlies has to have something plopped down on their heads.

The face is fairly Iplehouse-esque, but not too bad. Honestly I want to say it's the neck that gives him that appearance. Monzo has a thick neck like a lot of the iplehouse dolls do, and I think it's that region in particular (neck, shoulders) that make him look a lot like an EID.

    7. have i told you that i am soooooooooooo disappointed ? :( :( :( why couldn't they just have made decent fantasy parts for Idealian and kept/upgraded the 'regular super gems' . why soom? why? right when i could have used two lovely gray 'regular' bodies. i feel like there is now 'mecha angel' and 'idealian' and simply 'nothing' in between.

*le sigh* and now i have to live without that face. that face is going to be beautiful.

he does look like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LhjMEZOR2U0/SfVNDfp_JdI/AAAAAAAAA2M/5nmeoEJ4TMA/s400/Flying+Elephant1.jpg
      .
      .

    8. oh gawd after looking at that picture Cat i can now see it >_<. I really like the gargoyle feet, despite that they're quite simple looking. Would have gotten them for my Euclase, but knowing that they're on this new body I highly doubt they'd fit on a regular Soom body. I also wouldn't have mind dishing out for a larger actual SD sized devil wings, but these would definitely suit my msd boy much better than anything. Or even better...my Soom tinies :/. Now if only they went crazy and added two more pairs with Monzo...

    9. Are they going to replace the regular supergem bodies with this annoyingly muscular thing?

    10. Juno: It looks like this will be a new version of doll entirely, so I don't think so.

    11. @Juna: I highly doubt it, this body is labeled as a Mega Gem, so as Kchan said it will most likely be a new body type entirely...haha, awr, there aren't too many fans of Monzo's muscular self. XD <3 I wish I were made of money some days... u.u

    12. If they do keep the body; I'll cry T^T
Just when I decided I wanted a soom boy, They release something super huge. I'm a small boy lover, but I'd live with a muscular soom doll because I live of people with animal parts...but now it's gone too far for me to even use the fantasy parts as an excuse! Did I mention I love Monzo's feet though?! xD

      EDIT:
With Damon's input, do you think we will have to wait extra months to get a MD with a normal body now?

    13. Haha, well I wouldn't worry too much about Soom getting rid of the Super Gem monthlys for these beastly guys. XD The hooved guys and gals they've posted up before are just way too popular.

Monzo's feet are awesome though, out of all the gargoyle things they've put into him I'd say his feet are easily the greatest part of it all. I'm not too keen on the hands though, then again...I've never been too fond of the fantasy hand Soom's monthlies come with.

    14. I like his beefy well muscled body to me its what a gargoyle come to life should be..gargoyles aren't girlymen err creatures...LOL

    15. I agree, while they went slightly overboard with Monzo/Mega Gem
the idea still makes sense.....a Gargoyle isn't supposed to be skinny.
I wish for anything that they held back on the ears and gave magnetic
instead. I do hope Monzo manages to do well, or as well as Soom
hoped he would, but I fear Soom is moving in a bad direction.
3 MD's now that I haven't felt any impulse to buy. For me that's a very
      bad sign!!

    16. my last MD purchase was Vesuvia! none of the others did it for me..except for Galena..came close but chose another instead..now if I could just remember who it was..lol

    17. waaah sucky! no longer gonna get him now.

I hate those measurements too much. I am all for more muscles but he is just too big and neck too thick.

also $100! for gray resin 0_o

    18. I'm glad they didn't do magnetic ears, actually. I always thought the gap between the human ear and the add-on looked tacky and too much like a person in bad fantasy makeup. Removable peg ears would have been good.

I think the wings would have looked better on the slimmer, normal Super Gem body and his design is a little busier than most MD, but I'm so enamored with the whole concept that I'm not bothered by uber-muscles or the fact that they still haven't added swivel thighs. *Sue me, I LIKE swivel thighs. And, in my case, it's the whole package that gets my attention.

Well, at least your wallet will be happy, yeah? Or maybe you're just burned out because of all the pretty? I feel like that sometimes. All of Soom's dolls are beautiful but very rarely are they special enough that I feel any connection to them. My Bygg babies were the first exception. Monzo is might be the second.

    19. Chalco was 108$ more for the tan resin. XD

If I had the money I would totally be putting this guy on layaway, but I just finished paying off my Chalco and stuck an Appini on layaway as well as a Chrom head...so...I think I have enough Soom in my house for now. XD

I think what bothers me the most though is his outfit. It just seems very...well, I'll recycle the term everyone has been using, busy. It's real pretty and nice, but not quiet my taste.

    20. I really can't get over his "I just had open heart surgery" chest. :( I have a very good friend who had a triple bypass a couple of years ago, and every time I see this body (and Idealian) I can't help but see a scar rather than super-duper-ly over ripped muscles.
