Soom MD April 2010: Monzo - 'Stone Heart'

Darn...I was hoping for much bigger wings; these would barely support that hulking body of his. And after seeing him without a wig, I take back me earlier statement that his face was more masculine than Chalco's Ah well, I'll wait and see what the accompanying tinies will be next month.

 

WOW HE IS GORGEOUS!!! I think he is the most beautiful male doll I have ever seen.
I want him!!! He's perfect. I love EVERYTHING!!!!!

I think he works perfectly as a gargoyle, with the bigger, muscular body. I think SOOM is smart to start trying out a different body type. I love their SG bods, but it makes things a bit more exciting to see what they will come up with if anything goes, you know?

The multiple horns are cool too.

Yeah, wings are small, but it's fantasy... I mean, you all know that wings like that ought to be attached with skin running all the way down the body in order to catch enough air, right? Not just attached at one point??? So thinking of how it should be in Real Life just isn't going to apply no matter what! Besides, gargoyles are fantastical creatures that shouldn't fly anyway--as, you know, they are stone and all...

I've got an EID on layaway, so I don't know if I can get this boy. I also have a Euclase, so there's one grey SOOM guy already... But he's mightily tempting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, he's grey, but hes got a totally different body than my Euclase, so it's not as if I'm repeating... and paws instead of claws or hooves like my Sard... hmmm.... layaway.... maybe with layaway, even though I don't need more dolls... oh, dear!!!! I'll have to think... wait until the last moment... again!

After shock opinion now after a day of thinking i now that i do not like his body! But I love his face! and wings and hands!!!! But why soom did not let people choose Super Gem body as an option for him! huh huh HUH!

 

Right - i've been lurking in this thread for the past 10 pages or so, while i've been ogling the Soom site. :3

On one hand, I am so in love with him. He has everything I could possibly have wished for! He has a beautiful face, is buff (I have always thought the super gem bodies were too slim), he is gray, he has interesting horns, and wings, and non-hoofed feet, and he is beautiful! I even like his ears. I hate Soom for making a doll so obviously targeted at me. XD I even have a character for him.

On the other hand... The body, first off. I am all for buff guys (I LOVE EID guys!), but I don't like the way they've sculpted it. I don't like the pillow-casing look of the chest muscles (O_o), I like muscles, but he is overdone; like a bodybuilder. :/ If I bought him, I would be doing some sanding.
Secondly, poseability of doom! I am sad to see that he only has one joint in the torso. :/ He's gonna be really stiff when sitting! I think it would have been great if he could have been .. skulking (not sure it's the correct word ), like eg. Sard could. :/ The gallery pics of the body does not show him as being very flexible. :/
Third, I really like the idea of bat wings... but they also seem kind of small for him. I kind of get to think of Gene Simmons from KISS and his stage outfit. XD I wish they had been bigger, or made out of cloth instead, like the feather wings for Cuprit or such. First off I loved that he had bat wings, but now i'm more like ... "hey, they're kind of silly, aren't they?"

I'm really on the hinge of him. I think i'll think about it for a while, then see in a couple of weeks. He sure is a great concept, but I don't think he's perfect, and ... well, there'll be other awesome dolls further on. Also, one could always dye a doll. And commission some horns and (proper) wings. And join a split for interesting parts.

 

HOLY!!! I sooo wanted him! LOL I wish I had enough for him. T_T I like the human type as well XD

 

Well, as April said: he is a fantasy creature (talking about his gargoyle form) so I don't bother to much about proportions.
I am happy the wings are cool but not giant, cause I cannot allow a doll too big in my small small house (I gave up on centaur chiron for that reason), so the smaller (but still cool) they are, the better for me XD
And the muscles do not bother me too, cause he will be a gargoyle, undead demon for me... not really something that should look as a human being ^^
The body really remembers the first Idealian one, of course I like it as I liked him (triend to buy 2 of them on the first release T__T) while I don't like the new Idealian. This one has better legs for my taste ^^

Considering that he is a brand new type of doll, I don't think they will replace the super gem. Maybe they tried this release to see if the mega gem is approved from the customers to release a standard mega gem line... who knows.
Considering that two monthly dolls from 2008 were Mecha Angels, it is possibile that they wish to release two 2010 monthly dolls as Mega Gem... or maybe not XD

 

oh the 1st idealian he he he ... or something similar at least (that muscled but sharp & angular) ... agree with Cenarius while I don't like the new ID, I liked too much the older one & I like much this mega gem body (& what a butt!!) but I also like super gem too I hope they keep both in production!!
The only thing I consider is those holes in the back ... could they sell an extra torso part without holes If someone requested that?
and one more I love this gargoyle & the rough/sharp lines of the body fit perfect to the gargoyle concept ... but as I'm watching all basic line of super gems vanishing one by one I truly thing it's time for ordering my Lazule ... and conclusion is I have to try & get both ehhhmmm... now!! I hope I can use the layaway in this case... (selling soul to pay soom!! )

 

This has probably been said before, but MG bodies are not compatible with Super Gem heads without some modding (neck size of MG is bigger).

I was part of a split for the NS head but it was cancelled because the organizer got the confirmation from Soom that SG and MG weren't compatible.

I have prepared for some friends a quick comparison image to show the difference between the Mega Gem and the Super Gem.



The head has the same size of the Super Gem but, as the neck size of the Mega Gem is 4cm bigger than the super gem, the neck hole of the Mega Gem head needs some work for sure to fit a super gem body or a smaller body anyway. As for the super gem heads that need to have the neck hole opened to fit the Mega Gem properly.

I don't think the modding is a problem for many members here, I would be mostly concerned about the resin color, as I have found that the resin batches from Soom are different from the various releases. I have bought recently bodies and jointed hands (used and new) and - even if this doesn't bother me too much - I noticed that there are no identical colors among the normal skin ones, even if they are from the same year of release.
With the grey skin the combination could be easier, even if I recently received a Galena head to try it on my Euclase body and, due to the time, their gray is not the very same, even if not really different so not a big problem at all.

 

I've decided that I definitely must have this guy because if I don't get him I know I'll regret it. I'll get him in the natural skin and even picked out a wig and eyes for him. Finding an outfit will be hard. I don't like the clothes there or the EID ones. His story is rapidly forming in my mind too.

When these boys start coming in, we'll definitely need a 'what fits' thread!

Ugh he's so beautiful. I absolutely love his body and fantasy parts...but his head and face isn't doing it for me. It reminds me too much of Sphalers and I just didn't like his sculpt. I really wanted to plop my euclase oe mediation head onto Monzo gorgeous body...but I doubt that would work. Bleh winged ears and wings on his back would have looked SO amazing~~ OH well off to find a gray body for my Euclase!! ~

 

You know, the thing I just realized, that makes me really nervous about this guy, is that if he gets knocked over the first thing that's going to break are those wings... I'm probably going to try and make him a pair of wire and fabric wings that fit into those pegs.

 

With the wings, I figured I'd keep them off most the time just so that won't happen. But my dolls sit on a shelf anyway so I don't worry about them falling. The two that stand have stands. But that is a risk with all fragile resin parts, like the big ears.

He will be my first Soom doll. I keep wondering how well he'll stand in those claw feet?

 

Dolls getting knocked over is a bad thing even without wings! Sure, the resin is pretty strong, but if they've got pointy ears--I've seen those get broken, and chips in noses and broken fingers, etc. (fortunately, not my dolls, but very sad for the owners!).

I'd use a stand for any doll that is standing--no mater how well they stand on their own! It's just not worth the risk...

Cenarius--thanks for the SG and MG measurements. There is a big difference... the muscular body is a lot bigger (thicker)!

Well, I think it is a good thing that these muscular boys should look very nice with very few clothes!
