[Soom MD/March] Shonki & Appini Bestia Animo!

I still don't know if I want one or not. I'm a little disappointed they're not foxes and trying to decide if I can find something to make into a fox tail for them. Sigh.

 

Astolat, if you can find an Amber tail for sale, it works quite well.


They are adorable! And I just love how they're born out of pots, it ties the picture together (rather than randomly being put into pots ^^ ). I think I'm going to order two, but both blank - this will be the first time I'll order any tiny blank. Soom's face-ups are really bland this time around, and I cannot believe how much their charging for Shonki's (there's hardly anything there). There is a wonderful face-up artist that I've had in mind for a long, long time, and I think I'll commission her for my two. The black resin is incredibly dark, so I think I'm going to have her face blushed with a white base, and then a face-up over top of that - I think it will look so sweet, like a black and white kitty.

 

I can't believe I ordered them blank...but the white paint threw me off because the teaser had no white paint, and they are just too plain for my likings. I don't know how I'm going to blush mine up, but I'm sure i'll think of something when they are here. I guess I should go plan how I'm doing their wigs and eyes. I'm doing like a custom fullset I guess you could say ^_^;;

 

I have a feeling this will be a definate purchase for me, I'm actually enjoying the way the appini looks though i have to agree im not a fan of the blushing this time round (Face up and such).

I think Ill order the kitten blank, with the outfit and work with the darling when it gets home. It may not be a fox, but ima turn it into one~

It will make a nice friend for my Skoll~

And im still eyeing the legs, it surprised me their was no ankle joint but i suppose it means i wont have to worry about rubbing at the ankle from posing like i do with my skoll.

^__^ I'm also waiting to see what happens with another deal, so my purchasing of this sweetie will be determined by whats going on with that too.

I'd definately be in the market for another 2 pairs of ears, and the Shonki outfit though~

I missed out on Hati and Skoll so Appini will be a cute replacement as long as I keep off the ears and tail.

 

Oh my goodness, I was right, they are kitties! I'm really in love with the little white one but I'm still not crazy about the gender neutral bodies. I may break down and order one anyway. Is it just me, or are the basic human hands a new style?

 

well, i saw them this morning and must say i was a bit disappointed, why has soom stopped the ankle joints?!?!?

 

I have to say I am also very disappointed in the lack of the ankle joint, poseability is a huge factor for me in bonding. But being that these are kitties, I just cannot pass them up. I'm hoping I'll be able to manage and still love them just as much without it. ^^

 

Ok.. when I woke up earlier I basically woke up to stare at the pictures then went back to sleep. xD
Now I'm awake properly I can actually comment.

I adore the black resin.. it's fabulous, no denying that.

But the way Soom have executed these 2 is seriously lacking.
I mean, they haven't even blushed Shonki's paws except for the base.. where's all the blush that should be going up his/her legs??
Where's his/her joints blushing?
And that faceup.. why have they just scribbled with some white crayon and not bothered to do his/her lips at all?
Don't Soom get that when you do fantasy resins, you have to go MORE vivid and expressive with the faceup but otherwise it has zero impact.
Shonki basically comes across as blank to me. Yes, I know the price is cheaper, but it's still not worth the extra $100 just to get a doll with some scribbled white. x___X
I really don't know what they were thinking there.

The head sculpt is a little too cute for my liking. The eyes are beautiful, but the nose mouth area make the doll look REALLY young (this is Appini I'm talking about).
Thankfully that isn't an issue with Shonki due to just being such a nice resin colour that makes the sculpt look slightly different.
The fantasy parts seem.. somewhat dull? I'm not quite sure what's missing. Maybe it's the COMPLETE LACK OF BLUSHING! x_x

The clothes and stuff.. are ok I guess? I'd get them just to have them, and see if they'd come in handy one day.. but they're not what I'd have chosen at all.

The EYES now, are fabulous. xD

Seems like I'm complaining a lot. xD
I don't mean to, it's just weird how much these 2 feel like they just haven't been finished, like they ran out of time and just threw them up the way they were!

Will see how I feel when I see them in person, but right now I'm thinking I might be getting Shonki BLANK with eyes, wig and clothes.
This would be my first blank doll IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, so it's big step. x_x


Edit :: I;m actually very glad these are kitties instead of foxes however! It proves a) that Soom are listening to us, b) that they're not just doing teeny copies of the super gems, meaning there's more room for a wider range of animals to pop up this year, c) I'm a cat fan. xD

 

Well, I can definitely say that I am disappointed. I was loving the eye's shape and that little button nose, but the super small mouth kills it for me. And I thought that my Ai's mouth was really small! I guess that I've just discovered that I prefer more mature dolls. I'm also not a fan of sleeping heads, so really, I dislike both heads ._. I think that if I looked at Appini long enough she would grow on me, but I don't think I'd get her. at least not her heads anyways.

I do like the fantasy parts,and honestly I just loooove those adorable chubby kitty legs even though they don't have an ankle joint. Their outfit is also cute, but not in a 'OMG MUST HAVE' kinda way. So far, if I manage to save up a few extra bucks and add it to what I currently have, I think I would get the body and fantasy parts for my OE Ai head. That way my R.head can have her body and faun parts to herself xD

 

Mmm... I'm quite happy its a cat because while I adore~ cats *Wannabee Crazy Cat Lady*
I do not have any idea what I would do with them.... and while I could keep them without the fantasy part, they are just way~ too yougn looking!!! I adore~ soom teenies because they seem more mature then most tinies > A<

May try to get myself into some splits if I ever get to like their outfits more... and I want a pair pf those ears xD
But other then taht.... I'm saved!!!

 

Mmmm so they are little cats~ how very cute! Lucky for me im not soomed on these ones, the mouth to me is slightly strange, its so small. But i like pouty so that could be why. The new paw string hook method is very cute though!

 

They actually used the paw/hook string method for Hati and Skoll too.

 

I REALLY like this...but for a weird reason. I've been wanting a doll to look like Chihiro from Spirited Away, and I'll be damned if they don't have that same flat, squishy nose Chihiro has.... Danger for me! I'm gonna have to think seriously on it. Their eyes are too big but that squishy nose just gets me...

 

OH NO. I am DEVASTATED.
Soom Japan are changing their entire system, which I think will come into play before these 2 go on sale.
They're basically taking away all the things that made Soom Japan so fantastic to have, and I'll definitely have to think much harder about ordering from them again in the future now. T__T

 

hooray for kitties! Also hooray for not being soomed! . Can't wait to see what everyone does with these cuties. I just wasn't into the noses or legs. Too bad, since I am a cat lady...

 

I... actually really love their faces, I like how young they look. All I can say though is that Shonki's black resin photographs HORRIBLY... it's so shiny, it's distracting. I couldn't even really look at him, just not my cup of tea...

I agree about the ankle joints, that's a bit. Weird.
Whoever posted before about being reminded of Lucky Cat dolls, you're so right- Appini at least must be based off of them, and it makes me really want her. I love Lucky Cats! Ooohhh I really want Appini. ><;

I kinda want to mod the one eye open a bit on my Shonki's ZZZ head and make him a scarface. (Just a little one though ;3) Hmm. We'll see. I agree though the Shonki's faceup isn't very appealing because it's all white. I'm happily soomed though and actually relived I don't like any of the options so I am free to do what I want with them.

 

Yaaaayyy I was right about them being kittens!!!!!!!! That's where the happy ends.

Well. I'm sorry to say this but the black resin is an epic fail. It's horrible. I don't see
anything about it that shows Sooms level of design/creativity anywhere. The resin looks cheap. It looks (especially with that awful candy pink blushing!!) like a toy you could buy
@ a toy store. Sry. If I saw pictures of it (having no idea who made it) I would think it was by a lesser/new company. Won't name names.
The fantasy parts. Now why would Soom make the legs one solid piece? I can see the reasons when multiple pieces/joints made the blushing chip/flake off....but honestly that's the buyers concern not the maker. AND they don't even have body blushing on the legs anyway!! And why so much for the body painting? I don't think there's an artist on here who would ask for that amount for such simple work.

That all said, I adore Appini. I'm still disappointed in the simplicity of the fantasy parts (but yay resin tail..although they should have made it jointed) there's nothing about the legs that really say kitten/cat. The paw pads are cute but I have to agree with the comment said a while ago that Soom was perhaps making them more on what an anime version of a cat looks like, hence the very simple design. Since my speculation was them being kittens and the babies to the next SG I'm really curious wether Soom planned to release a black resin SG and wether they still will. Hopefully they'll also release a CW version, but they normally do when releasing a fantasy color. I really hope they work on getting the black resin right next time. And that any negative response doesn't hinder them from trying other resin colors out. I think black is just a very difficult color to get perfectly for this type of doll. This is a forum to speak our minds and say opinions so please don't get upset at anything I said. I love Soom but simply think they could have done better here. That's all.
