[Soom MD/March] Shonki & Appini Bestia Animo!

Mar 22, 2010

    1. Yeah, i'm not liking the look of the back one at all... the resin I mean, not the doll (tho the faceup is horridly done). I was looking forward to a new resin color that no one else has, very much, but I think i'm going to just do a split and get the white one... as I totally LOVE her open-eyed face, and the kitty parts (tho the blushing is "eh", so I will get her blank).

Is anyone actually going to get the black one? I donno if it's just soom's pictures, in which case i'll prolly regret not getting him later, but I just can't bring myself to love him. :(

    2. Black is better than a normal resin or another CW resin though :XD:

I kinda hope it looks better in real life. The way soom photographed it makes it look worse. Erm I wouldn't want to have to sell the little kitty after I got him :S.

    3. I still think that the main problem with the black resin isn't the resin itself, but the way they've done the faceup/blushing (or NOT done it, as the case may be). I don't know WHAT they were thinking with such a minimalist faceup.. why did they not paint the lips??
The way they've painted the paw pads pink is also very toy store, I agree. They should have painted the legs too as with normal Soom dolls and done a proper blushing job.

All in all, they've just done Shonki badly I think.
However, this is just the fullset options and I'd like to hope that someone with skill can do a much better job than Soom have here - someone WITHOUT skill could have probably done a better job. x_x

I'm really upset with Soom right now, changing their policies to a way which definitely does not promote good customer service.. so I don't know if I'll get Shonki after all. Will see if I calm down by the time she goes up. x_x

    4. I agree. That pink is not suited for such a beauty like Shonki. Either its the colour or the way its painted on, it looks unatural.
I'm hoping to do mine to a better degree with less pink and more natural colours. Soom's presentation wasn't best on these dolls. Not for Shonki at least.

    5. I would be going the opposite of natural with Shonki if I got her, lots of silvers and purples, plenty of shimmer.
But I don't know who I'd send her to, and it would add so many extra fees as I'd have to send her off to the US or something... and like I said, so concerned about how Soom Japan's service is going to be from now on, I'm just scared to order.
I've had so many problems with Soom, but having the store there to check things over meant that I still trusted them.
Without that (the store is staying but they're not receiving and sending out dolls anymore), I just don't trust Soom.. at all. x_x

So I'm still very much on the fence here.

    6. Well, this is what I'm looking at. As a kitten with the adorable sleeping face Shonki kinda
works, but look at her as a full human. It doesn't work @ all. She/he looks like someone
simply dipped them in paint or spray painted them black. I really think Soom could have
made a better shade of black. I don't agree that this color resin is better than
CW or NS, yes it shows Soom is willing to try something new (for them) but if it's done
poorly or gets a bad response sale wise it could make them reconsider other colors &
not look at why THIS in particular wasn't a complete success. Yes I know, it could end
up selling really well, I kinda hope it does but worry that if it does Soom won't try to
make a better black resin in the future.

    7. I'd love to have both as a pair, but the face up/blushing on Shonki and the eyes they chose just didn't thrill me. The resin seems too 'shiny' as well. I know you can change out the eyes and do your own face ups, but the presentation just left much to be desired.

    8. I agree..it was really sad as I was hoping for a truely adorable little one to add to my collection. I LOVE the outfit and will try to find a split for it. The pale doll is well too plain for me and the black resin is striking. But the outfit doesn't seem good for the skintone and the faceup...is HORRIBLE! Even with that...a part of me wants to split for the pale one's outfit and go for a black resin one. Almost like that one is calling for someone to give her/him a beautiful new faceup and see the true beauty...

    9. Edit: I do not like that face, way too well... baby.

Personally I just don't think that a tiny size does the black resin justice. Maybe I will fall in love with a big black one, but honestly I really like light SPARKLING fantasy colored resins.

    10. Whew, luckily I am not Soomed. ^^;; They're cute, but just not for me. I'm sad they're not baby foxes. ;o;

    11. It's Vesuvia syndrome. Vesuvia didn't sell to well, but it was because of her overall concept which a lot of people didn't like (I loved it, but never mind). Soom though I think assumed it was because of the beautiful shimmery purple resin and therefore stopped with the fantasy colours. Vesuvia's resin was way nicer than grey skin, but yet we keep coming back to grey skin and not the purple.
Here, if Shonki doesn't sell well, Soom will go OH COLOURED RESIN ISN'T POPULAR LET'S NOT MAKE IT ANYMORE, and we're doomed to a year of CW yet again. T_T
It just wouldn't occur to them that the problem isn't fantasy resin, the problem is the way they approached THIS particular doll. x_x

I wonder if a lot of MSC flat would fix the SHINY? That and actually blushing the doll. x_x

    12. Yeah, this resin could have been done better, definitely. Maybe a dark grey would have been better suited. I'm ordering both though because I don't want two of the same resin of the same doll, and I'm a huge sucker for different resins anyways. It does look spray painted on the doll on Soom's pictures though and shiny.

I shouldn't let these kind of things get me down on ordering Shonki though. He/She could look completely different in real life. I'm pretty sure it's just that white and pink paint that's bothering me though..it looks so boring on the doll.

    13. He is shiny! (couldn't put me finger on it, must be sleepy) Kind of looks like a lacquered box to me.

    14. I definitely agree, the color choice of Shonkis outfit doesn't help. Which is a shame
since both outfits are really nice. I just cant look at human Shonki without thinking
some child dipped it in paint. I think overall they chose the wrong sculpt to pull off the black.

Sorry to hear that midnite perhaps Soom felt they were losing too much money
by accepting shipments there and by having customers returning things? I would be
upset too that they are stopping that service. But I would be thrilled to have a Soom
store nearby too....why can't they open one at least in the US??? XD

    15. Up until now, dolls have gone through the Soom store. Main headquarters has sent them to Japan, the store has checked them over for any major flaws (like missing faceups, body blushing, missing parts etc) and then sent them out to customers.
Customers have therefore had an extra level of quality control very much needed with Soom dolls, AND we've been paying for shipping within Japan rather than having to deal with EMS. Plus, when you get a mail saying YOUR DOLL HAS SHIPPED, you know that means your doll is arriving TOMORROW, not next week (not having to deal with EMS and customs is another major bonus of Soom Japan) We could also pick up our dolls at the store for zero shipping.

Well as you can probably guess, from now on the store is going to stop receiving dolls. No more picking up your dolls at the store, no more quality control.
The dolls will basically be coming straight over from Korea by EMS like with the English site.
The amount of problems I've had with Soom, I just don't know if I trust them enough to order them without the Soom lady in the store checking over my doll first for me - even with her checking, I've still had problems.. and I know she's caught a few things like parts missing/faceup missing for me before sending my dolls out to me in the past.

Basically, the entire thing that made my Soom experience so bearable was the Soom lady being there at the store.
That's why I was so patient and put up with all the mistakes.

At least the good thing about Shonki is no seam sanding for them to screw up, and I wouldn't want the blushing or faceup so they can't fail at that either.. I wouldn't even get all the extras.
So I'm not too worried about ordering Shonki under the new system.
But bigger dolls, and definitely WS dolls where there's sanding to be messed up, no. T_T

    16. Yes, yes, yes. They should open a Soom in California by the other dolly retailers. The drive is not that long from up here. Imagine how many regrets would not happen to be able to see them in person.

    17. I'm really sorry, that is awful! Why would they even have a show room if you cannot get your dolls from there?

I have to say Soom seems to be making a lot of bad Customer Service decisions lately. (and for me) the only way they can make it up is with really beautiful dolls (and lately they have been lacking, I think; I'll wait to see if black resin works on a SG).

    18. I essentially think that's all it is, a showroom.
I assume you can still buy wigs and eyes and such there, but no more collecting your dolls there.
Now granted, this just makes them the same as any other company who have a Japanese site and a Japanese bank account so we can pay properly, but the dolls still get shipped from Korea. But most other companies don't make the mistakes that Soom do!

I actually assume the reason they're doing it is because Soom have gotten more popular in Japan.
ONE person works at the store, and it;s getting to the point where the place is DROWING in boxes.
I think the Soom lady spends all her time just getting deliveries, checking them, re-packing, and sending them off again. It's probably getting to the point where she just can't do it alone.
Rather than hire a second staff member, they're just killing the system completely.

Don't they have all these ridiculous new terms of service now that really don't do the customers any favours too?

    19. I couldn't agree more. I've been dealing with a seriously flawed doll from
Soom and it took over 2 weeks of e-mailing before I finally went back to
Q&A (I couldn't post my pics there so had to go through e-mail) and said
I've given Soom a lot of my money and I love Soom dolls but this problem
is making me reconsider buying from you again. And happily I got the answer
I needed. It just took waaaay too long.

Maybe, maybe they'll rework their black resin before it's shipped...
yeah that might be scary for those who ordered but gosh I really was
looking forward to a black kitten and now I'm so very disappointed.
A SG in this black resin would be scary IMO. Like a doll coming out
      of a tar pitt

I know one thing that's wrong with the paws....there are no nails!
Anyone who's had a kitten knows their nails are always sticking
      out lol.

    20. I'm so torn, I can't quite decide if I want to chance the black resin or not.

I'm so turned off by the way they did the dolls, it makes me really iffy on how I could make them turn out. I hate the black on Shonki D: I think the area between the mouth and nose stands out more in a weird way than on the white resin.

And it's not like I can wait, see, and then come back D: Maybe I'll wait out for a fox baby but I love the idea of black resin :/

I really can't imagine liking a taller doll in this resin either.
