Deleted previous post because of my meanness towards Soom. Sorry. edit: they really don't look like cats. They could totally pass for foxes/canines. Even with the tail.
This just makes me hope for a male kitty next month with different skin choices to choose from. I am so torn with the black resin though. If they did do a male kitty next month with the option of black or white resin, I would probably choose the white even though the black is a really nice idea...just seems executed poorly (shiny)
Well, I'm surprised by how much people are disappointed, but I guess people would be about anything like this. To each there own. More unique of a doll for me. :P I hope the black resin is awesome for those who get it.
And there was DEFINITELY some blue eyemakeup going on in the teaser picture too. The teaser Shonki and the released Shonki are very different, with only their sculpt and clothes staying the same I think. Makes me wonder if they changed a lot in the last few days? The original Shonki looks to have so much more potential too. x_x
That's my plan XD Gold or silver, purples, shimmery, better wig.. yes yes. I'd like to beleive that would fix a lot.. or at least be more to my tastes! ANd keep those beautiful purple eyes because I have them already and they are my favourite eyes of all time.. so fabulous! Of course, I can't do any of this myself. ^_^;;
Hm, I think they're cute, but they don't really steal my heart away or wow me like some other Soom MDs have. I think gold or silver detailing on Shonki would be pretty great.
Why is Shonki's lips not painted? O.o They could have at least gave him a little color on his lips. That's just odd how lacking in color he is. Agree the nose and mouth isn't for me, but I do like the outfit a bit. Might get Appini's outfit and body, but the lacking of joints bother me. They seem less like ball-jointed dolls when Soom does away with them. Edit: Yeah think I'm safe this mouth. If the paws had that joint I'd get the body at least. I can live without them. XD
That's what I keep saying! WHERE ARE SHONKI'S LIPS?? On what planet did they think it was a good idea not to paint them? And why is there no body blushing at all?? Soom's design team were clearly asleep for this one xD I'm still on the fence about the outfit. It's cute I guess, and I love having outfits... but both of them are just too boyish for any of my dolls, so I'd be getting it just for the sake of having it. Are Shonki and Appini's wigs different btw? They seem the same, but then are they cut differently at the back? I'd normally get Appini's wig for another doll, but if I get Shonki, I'd don't want that more boyish cut wig.. So at this point, I'm kind of looking at blank with eyes and that's it.. which I never thought I'd do.. ever. O_o
Yes! I thought that was only the shadows and my eyes playing tricks but it really was blue eyeshadow! It's such a shame, I bet the original Shonki would have had more fans than the changed version. Is that why it seemed a little later to be released? Because they were changing Shonki? Soom kinda dropped the ball for a lot of people who had the hopes set high for this little black kitty. I wonder why Soom only changed Shonki drastically and not Appini. I wonder if it was hard for Soom to make a good fullset on the black resin and they tried to make it better?
I just realized what these faces reminded me of!!! The meowing ghost boy from the grudge movie! Oh dear, painting one of these cute kitties to be like the grudge boy would just creep me out. lol. plus he 'meows'. My imagination gets the best of me :P
Anyway, I think the little kitties can be transformed into a fox easily. For those of you who are interested, the story they used for the kitties is actually a fox story. It's the fox spirits who are able to turn themselves into teapots. Called Tanuki in Japan. There is a chinese version too but i forgot the name.. So ya.. can easily be changed ~
I'm a little disappointed. They are....cute but not what I'd go for. The childlike faces are different, yes but not something I'd shell out $350+ for. I can see what they were going for. The face sculpt IS very 'cat-like'. Tiny button nose, line on the upper lip, tiny mouth (just like the upside down Y everyone uses when drawing cartoon kitties!). And the black is new... and maybe it's the lack of blushing but for me its just too dark. I like tan and choco, but this is jet black. Maybe they would have had me if it was a dark brown, NEARLY black resin, or much more detailed blushing. I do like their little paws though. Cute, but I'm safe. Here's waiting for some mini-tauren babes or more paw-ed cuties. *waits patiently for May*
I used an adhesive called 'old world art gold adhesive'. It was really easy to use and gave me a great result!
See I think if they'd gone for a dark brown I'd have HATED Shonki. x_x Right now the only thing keeping me interested is the black, because I feel it has potential. Choco would have been far too natural a tone, which is basically the reason I don't like NS. I generally dislike tan too, but liked Afi because of the way they blushed her up - it made tan feel like an unnatural colour. I'm glad they went for BLACK black. Anything less than that would have just been yet another tan doll, and natural resin rather than fantasy resin. I still stand by the theory that the black resin has potential.. Soom just kinda screwed it up a bit with the execution. It's like they designed the doll then sent it off to the makeup department and they just couldn't make the black resin work and therefore ended up with THIS. I'm guessing this might be Soom's worst selling tiny though. x_x It's not like Hati and Skoll where the doll was fine, people were just really disappointed that they weren't mini Bix and Vesuvia, plus no one was used to the chubby way Soom do their animal parts (everything except hooves seem to get reaaaaally chubby). Shonki though people really seem to hate.. poor little thing. T_T
