Soom [MD/Sep] Epidos - Flame Sword discussion.

Aug 30, 2010

    1. Waiting until we get a solid answer on whether the human+unikenta option is two full dolls is murder on my nerves. *gnaws fingernails*

I wouldn't want to be in a position where I have 1.75 dolls rather than 2, like Amber. Those last missing pieces to make another full body somehow fried my nerves, don't ask me why beyond hating needless 'overflow parts' lounging around in drawers forever; seems like such a waste of the company's time and effort when there would be a need to buy a whole body just for those few missing pieces.

    2. I look at him and I see more of a scholar than a swordsman. I guess that's why, to me, he looks too sleepy when he's handling the awesome sword and dangerously sharp shield. The expression on his face is sort of soft, sleepy, and dreamy rather than intense, like with Chrom. Chrom's facial expression suits a sword-wielding warrior. This guy? I can't avoid feeling he's gonna cut himself.

Oh, I agree on the different types of horses! Soom is without compare on the construction of this Centaur. This sculpt is almost like a touchstone 'How to make a centaur'. The small, tight, Arabian-type body is going to remain my favourite, even if they do start doing draft horses. I think doing a draft horse would have been a lot easier on them due to the support heavily furred fetlocks would have given them. This -- to my mind at least -- is much more daring. There's no way to hide anything on a race-car body like this guy has. Make no mistake, that is not a truck, that's a race-car. :) So cool!

My hope is that we can get some colour in there. (Sounding like Midnite?) For instance, get a palamino, or a pinto.

No worries about the photos, I believe, April! I think box-opening for this Centauroid is going to be wild (no pun intended)! I don't know if I'll be getting this boy though. The doll is beautiful, but not to my tastes, really. I'm hoping that they will do a female centaur soon and she'll look alert and spry!

    3. He is tempting. The price isn't as horrible as I expected...gah! But the biggest drawback is that I have no room for a centaur. I can barely squeeze in my supergems standing up.

Soom did a great job. I imagine it was very tricky making a centaur. Its just too bad he's not all cream white, or tan, or options thereof.

    4. Ditto, plus its hard to find wigs for these horned dolls.

MagicBunny I get that vibe too! The sword and shield look SO out of place. XD Plus his armor? looks like it wouldn't protect anything being so light and airy. I want to stick some glasses on him and a book in his hand. He looks more like a fencer maybe? That be kind of neat.

Now just gotta figure out which to buy. I'd like both outfits and the human head with the uni body but yeah not gonna happen. So Soom will let you do a longer layaway if you ask nicely? >_> If I can get it stretched to 4 months with 5 payments would make things much easier.

    5. I doubt Soom is going to listen to people asking for him in CW or other colours, as it looks like theyr're planning on releasing more centaurs in future. People would be better off skipping Epidos entirely, and waiting for a CW/CW centaur release. There's always Heliot's horned head if you specifically want a CW/CW unicorn centaur boy, as well.

Personally, I'm hoping that Soom will release different colours of the part that joins the horse torso to the human torso. If I could get that in tan, I could hybridise a Chalcotaur, or, in white skin, a male Ambertaur. And if they release a female centaur, I'd love to see the female joining part be released as well - that way anyone with a female Super Gem could turn their Epidos into a female taur as well, without having to buy an entirely new centaur lower half!

EDIT: I just Soom my suggestion, and included this image - thought I might share it for anyone trying to imagine a female Centauroid Gem:

    6. I think some wanting cream white just want his sculpt in white cause we like the sculpt. I suppose everyone has their tastes in resin color. I think the only normal skin boy I tolerate is my Sard, just personally don't like Soom's normal resin much. But he's a fantastic sculpt so maybe it won't be too bad. And if he's sanded and blushed maybe it will make him paler.

Not really worried on passing on his uni body, but more so his sculpt and outfit. And the wig is epic. I just love his overall look. :aheartbea

But I think its good people ask Soom, because how will Soom know what people want? ^^

    7. I agree. Soom nomal skin is such a weird Band-Aid pink color sometimes before it mellows out.

I love the look and proportions of Epidos, a bit wiry and compact like a classical Greek centaur but not hairy and brutish the way they were usually depicted. I guess there isn't any such thing as the "right" way to proportion a mythical creature since it's not physiologically possible anyway.
I very much like the sculpt's return to some of the earlier facial types like Bix and Lazule. Lucky for me I have a Bix and don't need a four-legged critter in the house. Can't wait to see this guy with some custom paint though!!

    8. I definnitely didn't mean that no one should send Soom suggestions (it would be quite silly to, considering I sent them a suggestion of my own!) - I was more just suggesting reasons why people might not want to get their hopes up too much. I've never seen Soom add a colour to a current release, even when lots of people were requesting it.

They do now have those Special Order rereleases, though! So maybe a CW Epidos human lies in the future even if Soom don't release him right now :)

    9. Cream white human Epidos would pwn me. XD

I understand what you're coming from. It is a stretch to hope Soom do it, but oh well. Some part of this boy will be coming home with me I think, white skin or not. :chocoberry

    10. lazulistar: i agree with you. the sculpt itself is very lovely. the fact that at the moment it is available only in 'normal skin' is, in my opinion, a 'sales killer' . Epidos is very fairly priced, i think. however, any amount of money is a waste if the doll is not really what one wants.

also, since that 'joining piece' is not at this second available in 'white skin' it is not possible to put a heliot on the horse parts. therefore, lovers of white skin are still out of luck even if they were to consider 'splits' . i just see the current 'color combination' offerring as something that pushes sales down.

personally, i am still waiting for my black hooved male and just admiring Epidos and Soom's accomplishment and skill.

    11. It's funny that people are talking about wanting all white skin, because I would like it to be all normal skin. Going from dark down to light isn't working so much for me visually.

I'm leaning towards waiting for another release of something different. It seems with the new category they're planning on more, and I really can't afford it this month, so maybe it's all a blessing in disguise? XD

    12. hes amazing i really love how he looks i wish the have made hem in grey skin or tan .so for now i am safe.. from the evil spell of soom!:p

    13. Heeeeyyy...How badly photoshoped his eyes are, you think? Are they limited or from basic kind?
I want him to be an Astrologer and his eyes look like they reflecting galaxies ...or are they just photoshoped pupleless ones?

    14. I meant that people could use Heliot's head on a future, all-CW centaur release, if they really wanted a unicorn centaur (as I'm assuming future centaurs will probably just have human heads - I could be wrong about that, though!)

    15. I may be an anomaly here, but I love that the horse part and the human torso are different colors. <3 Horse fur and (lighter/caucasian/asian) human skin are generally different colors, and in most images of centaurs that I've seen, the human half is, well, flesh colored, while the horse part is some color of, well, a horse. xD

But an all-white one would be quite lovely too (like a pale human/white horse combo, lol), and it would be nice to be able to get the human version in white skin! I guess Soom decided that since he is "two skintones in one" they only needed to offer one option.

    16. someone pointed out to me that if you take apart Heliot from the peener piece down, then he should pop onto the Unikant horse body. it is hard for me to see because of all the photoshopping, but i think they are right. a Heliot would fit on this body for the 'all white' look.

of course, that still does not help anyone loving the Epidos head(s) and wishing he came in white.

    17. While I actually do like the changing color from human to horse, I still wish I could get him all in CW - and I have to admit that at least some of that is because Soom's NS is just so weird and orange. :sweat It's not a deal-breaker for me or anything, but it is a small strike against the poor guy. I suppose if it bothers me too much I can always paint him some other color!

    18. Tosh, Lula thanks so much for your answers :whitetruffle

I thought this because I heard about it once ago, and then I found this in their customers guide:

There is something about laaway fee and I thought that were this 10%

Personally I hate that I cant choose him in CW! :x
I dont see his chara in NS but till I love his face sculpt so much I think I have no choice :...(

I actually wanted to ask Soom to if I could get him in CW

Aand I love that so many say he looks like Bix, I missed Bix and realized I loved his face feautures later :(, so now thats my second chance :D

    19. Originally when Soom moved to the new website, their policy does say "fee" but they changed that - as far as I know they have not charged any fee yet.

I think you should write to Soom.

I want him in CW as well. I wrote to them and ask them. I think if all of us who want him in CW all write to them, there is a higher chance that they will consider offering him in CW.

      Thank you

    20. Gah. I am so undecided on this one. This is my favourite horse body so far, but my ideal would be a chunky, muscular Shire or Cob. Now, given that Soom have added a new category for these, they clearly plan to bring out more. But, will they all have the same, slim body or will they make a buff version? I would suspect that this body took so much to create that Soom are unlikely to sculpt a whole new one. So, the different releases will be in different colours, with different HSs and with male and female bodies.

      Hm...
