SOOM Monthly Doll July (Cancer) the Third Land: Bix - Fateful Night

Jul 15, 2008

    1. What you mean changing his shirt? xD I'll be so poor after this that he'll never get out of his standard outfit xDDD

anyway, waiting room opened. Someone come keep me company ;)

    2. I know that there are some lovers of this doll. Personally he's not my cup of tea. I looked at him and immedately thought of Davey Jones from PotC....Since he has that crab claw. I just can't see myself wanting this one...

    3. Love that claw but he does look like Davey Jones

    4. This is me too. I'm another of the rare folk who isn't really interested in boy dolls, though he is gorgeous. I'll have to keep my eyes on the future Soom offerings though, because I so looooove their creativity!

    5. Well, crap. My imagination seems to have gotten the best of me and now I have a really great idea for Bix in my storyline. :doh Stupid mental gears turning...

However, if I did get him, it would have to be on a 5-payment layaway and I'd have to get the blank doll only, as much as I LOVE that outfit. :( And I'd be giving the body (claw and all) to one of my floating heads... (Thus not breaking my "no new dolls until floating heads have bodies" rule). I'm still debating, and it depends on if I get the funds to pay off Beryl early... but man oh man... I want him now.

      Curse my overactive imagination!

    6. *whisks you away to the dark side*

I could use a bit more company in the waiting room. We're just with 2 now ;)

    7. Oh, man!! Sudden craving for cracked Dungeness...! *_* Demolition crab!! He is glorious... and I think he looks like Vega's little brother. Spinel & Namu's cousin.

What a gorgeous glowering stare he has! And can we talk about that veiny Midnight Power Claw arm? It's enough to melt the cartilage outta your knees. Oof. (I'd want him if he came with those chains, too. How about that chained-heat photoshoot... aaa... :nosebleed)

I swear. If I had a big giant mansion house, or even a spare wing to my apartment, I would've already started snapping up this whole freakin' zodiac show. All twelve plus the twins! En masse! On principle! It's incredible, the visions & interpretations they're coming up with for this theme. Hats & claws off to Soom.

PS. To those of you who are skeptical and/or derisive about the price of the outfit, I put it to you that you HAVE to see it in real life. I was very skeptical about the $250 merman skirt that came with Vega Last Song, until I held it in my hands. Their workmanship is just crazy detailed, meticulous, strong, excellent. Layers, ruching, sequins, perfect seams everywhere. I suddenly understood $250 worth of effort. Now check out Bix's padded leather, top-stitching, quilting, rivets, everything... How could anyone quibble about what it costs to do all THAT?

    8. Amen, amen, amen.

I was actually horrified that someone posted a nasty and negative review on the product page already about the price of the outfit. I swear it probably took me a minute to scrape my jaw off the floor I was so shocked.

Costume design is what I went to college for. I take one look at that outfit and, quite frankly, the wallet comes out with a lot of muttering about how there isn't a snowball's chance in a supernova that I'd do an outfit like that so inexpensively. I don't make big money by a lonnnnnng shot, but for that price? You can bet I'd buy it rather than make it for myself, no question about it.

I have the Black Warrior outfit, which doesn't have a fraction of the detail as this one, and I'll second the comment about amazing quality in workmanship from Soom's tailors for what is being paid. Great materials, perfect finishing, better in person than it is in the pictures -- SOLD. I don't regret it for a second and couldn't be happier with it.

Seriously, if I do break down and order, which is becoming increasingly likely, I may some day part with the doll, but I'd frame that outfit and put it on the wall before I let it out of my sight. Half my collection is mostly nekkid because I'm so picky about clothing and take a long time to make anything myself (and am bereft of a sewing machine at the moment) if that gives y'all any idea -- it really is just that good.

    9. 250$ for that outfit sounds like a good deal. I mean, how much would you otherwise put into a perfect outfit? But yeah, I agree that that indignified comment on the Bix page was really over the top. If you don't wanna pay that much, then don't. But saying nasty stuff like that?

    10. yeah. I've looked at all of the dolls so far, and picked options that I'd want, but never everything to save money.

For example, when I browsed around Beryl and Sard, I did NOT choose the wings or the outfits, because while pretty, the cost was offset by the blushing. I couldn't live without that, so I chose to neglect the outfit and wings. Though pretty, I'd be okay clothing my doll in something else.

      EDIT:
Looking back, I pine for Sard's outfit, but Beryl's really doesn't appeal to me. I'd clothe her in something else. That just doesn't look pretty. But Sard...in that outfit.... Yes, I want him. No horns, though...but that wasn't an option. And he's sold out now. Oh well. My bank account won't suffer...until I see Libra. Oh gods...

This doll.... I'd get blank, no blushing, but THAT OUTFIT AND BOOTS (and eyes, no wig). I don't care if it's $400. I can tell by looking at it that it's one thing I couldn't live without.

If I were buying this doll, but I can't. The most I can hope for is to see pictures. ^_^

      Off the clothing tangent,

Did anyone notice how this is not a mecha angel? =) It seems they're breaking away from that...some. (I'd have to check back, but I'm pretty sure everything forward of Vega has been mecha...right?)

    11. I'm with ya on that! everything you said! I still kick myself for missing out on my own sign, and a Vega boy to boot :...(

Now I have to decide if I even have the room for this boy O_O I'm still waiting for my Sard :?

    12. ...I have no willpower. *facepalm* I passed on the body blushing and sanding but went for everything else on layaway.

Really, it's the outfit that just pushed it right over the top. I am just too impressed.

    13. Oh, I completely agree. Once I took a look at it, I can easily understand the price. It's just more of a "what can I afford" issue, more than a "what is it worth" issue. It's worth every penny. ^_~ But at first when I was thinking about doing just a WTS with someone for the outfit only, it seemed like a big gamble when none of my boys have an SG body... the only boy that would have worn it is a Latidoll, and I have no clue about whether that armor would fit. And if I do get the doll, getting the armor as well is really just out of my price range right now. :( That craftsmanship is out-of-this-world, though. :aheartbea Itty-bitty rivets!!

And I may end up joining you in that waiting room Voynich, but it would likely be next week if I do decide to order, since I get paid on the 25th. ^_~ I'm still debating it. I need to do some research and make sure that my floating head will actually fit okay on a SG body. I already know the Soom NS resin is a match... I just have to find out about the size issue. :sweat

But hey, if I do decide to order, that's good news for the people that love Bix's sculpt but don't want the whole doll... because it means a Bix head will likely end up in the marketplace 5 months from now. ;)

Deneb Planet Spirit and Last Song Vega were both Mecha Angels... but Beryl, Sard, Onyx, and Bix have all been Super Gems.

    14. jesus H .......... A giant claw? Whatever will Soom think of next?

    15. I'm ordering him with just a (custom) face up. :D I was going to buy Lazule to share a body with my Alain head anyway so I can justify it that way. I just LOVE his eyes, his thin face, narrow lips... and I just can't resist those slightly smiley guys! :fangirl: He'll fit one of my characters well, too. The outfit is exquisite but I have absolutely no use for it. Hopefully I can sell the crab arm later.

I think they may have been better off going with a recognizable mythological creature, though. He's really just a hot assassin type guy with a funny crab arm. This look and theme would work better for Scorpio with a stinger.

Now to decide whether I can do BOTH Bix and Sabik this month...

    16. He's wonderful! I love everything about him! However, I'll pass this time. I'm waiting for Capricorn! I hope he/she is as impressive as Bix.

I saw the comment someone posted on the Bix page at SOOM's website. What a tool. It really makes me sad to see that some people have no real respect for doll companies. They put alot of hard work - blood, sweat and tears - into their dolls. No one is making him/her order the doll and certainly no one put a gun to his/her head and made her write such an utterly ignorant comment. No one ever said this hobby was cheap.

    17. oh, and how do you people see Davy Jones? I instantly thought "Advent Children Cloud!!" Especially with the outfit and personality.... He just reeks of Cloud. But that's just me. XD

    18. Yeap, the boy is awesome without a doubt. The concept is awesome. Volks Full set for SD13 all starts at $980.00 MSRP. So if you all add all, this full set is not that much more than Volks. So really, he is more of a "do I have room for him in my house" and "can I afford him now" issue.

    19. Heh that sounds about right.

So um... anybody wanna sell me their Sard so you can has a munny to get the doll of YOUR dreams? *LOL* Sorry, had to try. Do you blame me?

Holy. You know this just occurred to me... but Soom is producing a sideshow this year. *L* How AWESOME would it be to have every one of them and to set them up like 'Creatures of night brought to LIGHT!' (props if you get that reference)

    20. oh.my.gods. unlike the others in this fantasy series (which are also beautiful) this Soom boy IS calling out to me. Everything is perfect for me: outfit, sculpt, faceup, concept....The articulated claw is a very nice touch, and I like that you can switch out the claw arm for his normal arm. I liked Spinel, Vega and Lazule when they were released so I've been wanting a Soom for awhile (need more boy dolls!) Bix will be the one to help me make the jump.

The costume is certainly worth it...It looks like it's made of 20+ pattern pieces, not to mention the accessories. Imagine having to sew that together yourself (I can't) not to mention the time it would take running around town to get materials together. Best to leave it to Sooms expert craftspeople.

And no, I wouldn't spend that much money for an outfit for myself, it's true....I'd rather spend it on a doll's outfit which will probably look and fit better on my doll than any outfit I can buy at a men's shop for myself to wear which never looks as good when I get it home as it did in the store :)

Thanks moachan and sakuraevolution, for the links. *goes to put in for more overtime*
