Soom Monthly Doll (July) the Second Land: Cass - Abyss Rhapsody

Jul 24, 2009

    1. I severely doubt Cass is MA. Soom has a pretty well established pattern with this story line of dolls:

Two minis of the lowest order, followed by an SG of the corresponding element. All of the "elemental gods" so far have been SG size. Why would they throw a wrench in the works now? Assuming someone out there is putting together the full collection, if two gods of equal ranking were vastly different size, it would confuse the story line incredibly...

Although, I really can't speak to Deneb and Vega... I'm tempted to chalk it up to an early mistake on Soom's part. They made them MAs before they decided what the line-up would look like.

    2. I'm not entirely sure about that. It could be the case, but many mythologies include 'very large things' dwelling in the sea, which could also explain the MAs as a deliberate choice. It would also be a reason to continue supporting the MA line without necessarily expanding the FFD too much. Considering how much Soom's popularity in general has exploded since the time the MD Vega came out, I don't think they'd be taking a huge risk by making this one either MA or SG.

    3. ahhhh, okay. i'm with you myuumyuu :) . i hadn't realized that deneb and vega 'matched up', even though, yes, they don't "match" . sales wize i agree with lazulistar; it wouldn't make business sense to make one that big when the sg's sell better.

    4. I really hope you're right, myuumyuu. I agree with your reasoning - the Elemental Gods are so much more planned out than the Zodiac dolls were last year. Soom have a whole story and clearly have the entire line planned out from beginning to end. The competition they are running proves that they are hoping for people to buy multiple Gods, so they must want them to 'fit' together as a set. There's a clearly established pattern, and the MA monthlies from last year sold very poorly.

I also don't think using different moulds would speed things up - Soom have said that they only have three lines for MDs (including the new teeny MD line) - if anything, keeping dolls the same size/skintone means they can make 'extra' bodies/human parts without worrying that they'll go to waste (as they can carry over to the next doll). Introducing a new body size would actually be very limiting.

I've decided that I want Cass even if she is a MA (she looks older than Cuprit and Chrom anyway, so the extra height won't look too weird), but I'd love her parts to be interchangeable with my other Super Gems, so I hope Soom make her a SG too. As someone who didn't even like LS: Vega or Deneb, I'm praying Soom doesn't ruin their lovely line this year by modeling Cass after them :sweat

    5. okay, now, after i said: 'wouldn't it speed things up if they used an ma mold', i realized: wow. that sounds "dumb". it would probably be faster just to make endless sg's. however, i was thinking of soom 'farming the work out', in which case, the thing could be completely different and assembled in who knows what off-site warehouse (i'm just entertaining myself imagining) . then i thought: okay, no, it would be faster if they ran endless amounts of white supergem female bodies.

but, you know why i think it wouldn't ? i think soom has to worry that the resin will be different colors from batch to batch. a little bit of color difference won't matter. but on my heliot, i did think that the head caps were 'a different run' or something was different from the rest of the doll. i think they have to worry about the stuff 'hanging around too long' as well as worrying about how it comes from the factory in the first place. some heliots looked creamier and some heliots looked whiter. what happens when you run endless sg girl bodies and then uh oh, the parts don't match ?? :):) just tossing this out there.

is she up yet? is she up yet ??? :):) .

    6. This -definitely- happens. I know Bix seems to be pinker than my other Soom NS dolls. In fairness, the other two NS I have are blushed, but the entire tone is really notably different to my eye. That's probably more a worry with the NS than the WS, since I'd think it's got more (and darker) pigment in it, but I'm sure it's still a factor with the WS as well.

Either way, I'm Soomed. I have plans for her in either size that go in different directions, and am waffling on which would actually appeal to me more.

    7. It is bad business sense for Soom to make Cass as a MA, but in a strange way, wouldn't it be better if she didn't sell as well as an SG Cass?

Considering the current wait times and the severe production lag on the MDs, it could be better to let them work on the finished sales as opposed to making new ones.

    8. Hehe shall we all take bets what size she is? We'll bet bjd parts? XD

Though I'm starting to think even if she is a MA I might get her anyway. I want to make her "Mother Sea" and being that size might be impressive...but my poor wallet. I still have two layaways to pay off. >.> That's another problem with MA, they cost more.

    9. About those 'very large things'- I ran across something when I was researching the names of the tinies that was quite interesting:

"The elivagar, the eleven rivers that flow from the spring Hvergelmir in Niflheim."

"In Norse mythology, the Elivagar are eleven venomous frozen rivers. They flow out of Hvergelmir, a spring at one of the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil, into Ginnungagap, the cosmic abyss. From their frozen waters, the giant Ymir sprang to life."
(from a book called 'Myths of Northern Lands.")

With all the tinies having names from Norse myth, I was pretty sure that Soom must have come across this, too. The water tinies having the names of Eliv & Iv certainly point that way. It gave them a perfect reason for Vega and Deneb to be 80cm and still fit in. Although Vega and Deneb would tower over their goddess quite alarmingly. :o

Cass could be either and make sense, but I agree that she probably IS a SG. I just like thinking of her as a Mecha.

    10. Well, I've just woken up and she's still not up for sale :...(

I think, just because Vega and Deneb are MA sized, doesn't mean that Cass will be that size too (fingers crossed because having a doll that size would scare the hell outta me). I mean, they havn't had an MA sized doll doll, whether that was because the others were poor sellers, I don't know.

Actually, I've just been looking at Culprit and Chrom and I'm now convinced that Cass will be the same size as them - Super Gem Legend Version (68cm). Maybe it's the word 'legend' but I think it would make sense for her to be that sized.

And as for the mermaid thing ... I'm hoping they go down another road because it's already been semi done with Vega. I dunno.

Either way, she has a name and is developing personality - this is a bad sign!!

    11. I just got a reply from Jin to my questions and here is the big news :

      Mermaid !!!!:D

    12. Wow, that's a very strait-forward answer! Mermaid it is then ^^

    13. Woohoo! So is the fin resin or the dress. That's the only mystery. I hope resin...

Edit: Wait they say blue resin... '.'

    14. i think it's a dress. i would "love" for it to be resin, but, i think it's a dress. makes their life easier. but, we'll see. unless she has legs like the little fishies and they go 'starbucks style'. i'm just not seeing them going big giant tail as much as i hope that that's what it is. i would think on a single tail, they would have to sacrifice her standing. if they did that, she would be the only doll they ever made who couldn't stand in the special parts. unless, they (caps lock) really got her to stand (caps lock) somehow. :) .

    15. I'll look forward to seeing how they do the tail!

It kills me that she'll arrive in the dead of winter. (Unless she doesn't come until spring... a resin tail makes it sound like she'll come with a lot of tricky to make parts. :sweat) Photo stories on the beach are so appealing right now.

    16. Darn it! I didn't want her to be a mermaid. Saying that though, I'll have to see all her pics before I judge whether I like it

      C'mon SOOM!

    17. Good point, siriusstar -- she'll likely be our Xmas girl with the current scheduling. That bothers me less than it could, simply because I bet she'd look divine posed with some icicles, but she may look a bit odd dressed as one of Santa's elves. Hm. She could look stunning by a frozen creek or something, though?

    18. She's an Xmas doll. Gotta have her ... it'll be birthday present from me, to me :)

And I love the idea of her being posed around icicules ... she could give Culprit a run for her money

    19. *gulp* Jin's reply literally made me gasp in excitement.

I'm so anxious now.....gah hurry up with the pictures Soom!!! I am now officially stalking the page.

*bobs up and down in chair*

    20. RESIN TAIL
      :dance:dance:dance

Now I really cannot wait to see what she looks like. Size be damned, I'm not passing up a mermaid with a resin tail!
