Soom Monthly doll March (Pisces) the Third Land: MA Vega - Last Song

Mar 6, 2008

    1. While I'm partial to "fishman," myself, I've always loved Manannan Mac Lir pootling around somewhere west of the Hebrides in his two-wheeled chariot on top of the sea. Also, Manannan had a sword, called "the Answerer." Isn't that nice? Of course, I think Manannan was a blondie...

Can't wait to meet the fishy fellow in person. LOVE that nose. :fangirl:

    2. The Answerer!! Excellent! Since I don't have a sword or a gun to have that engraved on, I should get it tattooed on my ass. "Rrrrahhh!! I gotchyer Answer right HERE!" *shwack* [IMG]

But I digress. Mr. Blue-With-Gorgeously-Patrician-Profile (oh, that nose <3) will get a name perfectly tailored to his very last scale-- because Our Savvy is on the case. *cheering* If anyone can help synthesize nonexistent syllables & string 'em together with glottal stops & apostrophes so I can have a properly otherworldly merman, it's SaintSavin. I think I want something with a lot of L's and at least one pair of double A's, but I would also be able to pronounce it out loud. -_- Stay tooned.

    3. I have such a crush on the brutal, yet very humourous Norse mythololy, otherwise I would not choose such a clichรฉ for a name ;) Good luck with finding one!

The default eyes are not part of the package?? Noooooo.... I completely fell in love with those eyes. Probably need to buy them later on if he comes without them, I love the blue theme :) I ordered him without the outfit, going to make something myself... not sure it will be a fishtail, but it will still be "water-based". Makes me wonder how many people heard the original version of "The little mermaid"... cause I don't think anyone at Disney's ever read it. My 50's danish HC Andersen storybook happens to be perfect doll-size reading for my boys. I sure do hope our mermen don't end up like that poor mermaid. :...(

    4. I would hardly call a Norse-sea-god name a 'cliche'! At least, I haven't heard of people in this part of the world making a cliche out of him; most folks here only recognize the names Thor, Odin, & Loki, and only if they read a lot. ^^ Norse myths are especially wonderful, I think, for that "brutal yet humorous" tone you mention. Is there a particular picture/interpretation of Njord that inspires you for this character, or did you just pick him for the name?

And, oh YES... :atremblin Poor Little Mermaid! When Disney came out with that Little Mermaid, I asked myself, "How the hell are they going to show that little red-haired bimbo suffering with every step as she walks 'on a thousand knives of fire', then get betrayed by her prince, and die at the end?" Oh Mr. Andersen, so many sad stories. ;; Anyway, that's excellent, you have a small HC Andersen volume that's sized for 80cm mermen? <3 That will be wonderful to see. I'll also look forward to seeing what outfit you make for him.

Did you not choose to include Eyes when you bought him? ;; Yeah, the eye option is $26, otherwise he comes without. I have Soom's "Ripple" eyes at home in 16mm (they really look like water), but if Vega wears 14mms, I'm glad I ordered default eyes in him anyway. I also want to try some Volks Metallic Acrylics in his size. They come in gorgeous metallic-frosty-pale shades of powder-blue & gray-green (and they're about $10!).

I can't really see what color eyes he's wearing in the display picture... but it looks like it could be "Ripple". (Or possibly "Poseidon", but I think they're brighter than that.) Has anyone in Q&A written to Soom to ask them?

    5. Hi,

I'm soo excited! I ordered my very own merman with everything... Oh, why do I have to wait now??

As for the eyes, I asked Soom and they told me, if You don't specifically ask for some eyes, they always give You the ones in the picture. I didn't ask for the exact name of the eyes.

But You are right, JennyNemesis, it is very hard to determine from the pictures. In some, it seems to me that he has the eyes NP06 Nereides and in others the NP04 Naiads. Both are in the section Nimph. What do You think?

Has anybody asked Soom whether he comes with the tatoo on his upper left arm? I was wondering...

    6. Ah, I did purchase him with eyes, I just freaked out at someone mentioning the word "random" I think default looks like naiads..? I think that for an otherworldly creature, non-black pupils work fine :)

My little storybook is one of those things that really means a lot to me. It is a worn, brown little book, not really an item of great beauty, but... when my mother was a small child, her mother got very sick with polio, and spent a long time at some sort of sanatory in Denmark. One of the other patients gave her that little book to bring home for her daughter, and when I was a child, I got it from her. I remember I was sort of shocked at how violent and sad some of those tales really were, but still very facinated. Either way, I love having things that comes with a story :)

I admit that I always care a great deal about the beauty of the mere sound and letters of a name, so I am totally for having an expert inventing one  When it comes to Njord, he is sort of an odd man out in ร…sgard. Him and his children were originally brought there as hostages, as they come from a rivalizing branch of Gods, Vaner. At some point Njord was married to a Jotun woman, but as he could not stand living in the mountains away from the sea, and she vice versa, that never went well. I think one of the things that attract me to Norse mythology, are the down to earth and hilarious stories surrounding the Gods. Tor dressing up as the goddess of love to marry the jotun that stole his hammer, Loki being transformed to a horse and giving birth to Odins horse (thus making him the mother..?)... err, Loki being the father of various beasts like the Fenris wolf (?!) .... yeah, I love the utter insanity of it all.

Cannot wait for our Mermen to come! Hurry up and SWIM! :love

    7. So...what does my birthmonth being March + no one doing JACK CRAP for my Bday, not even my mom + The most beautiful color scheme EVER + one of my favorite fantasy creatures created in doll form + ABSOLUTELY NO money for my first doll, even a Bobobie = ???

You guessed it. *cries bitterly* TTOTT Lord, WHY does he have to be a LE??? I know I may have said this a few times alrelady, but...that has to be one of the most beautiful dolls I've EVER seen!!! I just want to run up to my mom and be like "MOM! MOM! We didn't do anything for my Birthday this year, can we get him??? TT3TT" but i know she's been in a pretty bad mood around me lately. TT_TT

Plus, I kinda sorta had made an agreement with my cousins that I would wait until I graduated in December to get my first doll. And even though I know I probably won't have enough money for one even then, and I never physically agreed to it, I've found myself trying to hold up to it. Now that I'm afraid that I won't do good in some of my classes this semester (and thus may not be able to graduate EVER) makes me feel like I don't DESERVE one. TT_TT

Wow...I'm just a great big ball of Emo lately. Thanks, Soom. Now I've got another reason to feel bad. He's just SOOOO GORGEOUS!!! Lord, if I become freakin' rich and ever find him second hand for sale, I'm buying him SO FAST!!! He's just SOOO GORGEOUS!!! Never thought I'd see a Merman doll done so beautifully, he's JUST how I'd always hoped someone would make him, even if his fin is just a costume! He's just AMAZING!!!

    8. Crystalenchantress, that's a good question-- I didn't ask about the tattoo! But offhand, I'll guess that it will come with him, if you get the Body Blushing option. When I ordered my Voice of Angels Namu, he also came with a tattoo option, but they sent the tattoos with him separately.... However, he didn't have such special body-paint as this guy does. With this special blue paintjob, I can't imagine they'd make us put the tattoo on ourselves & risk messing it up! (I'm not good at putting those decals on very straight. ;; )

I have gone back & looked & looked into that merman's eyes on the photo (*swoon*), but I still can't see what color eyes he wears... It looks like a black pupil in some photos, but then it looks like a blue pupil in others! I do like those "Naiad" ones, though, so I'd be happy if those were the ones. <3 Soom makes a lot of wonderful watery-looking colors that he'd be perfect in, so I would rather NOT have to choose which one. Decisions are so taxing.

Ravnsvart, I think a sea-god who marries badly (I mean, a mountain girl? *pfft* Dude, those long-distance relationships just never work!) makes for an excellent story. XD All stories are made even cooler when they come in a special little book that has a long history of adventure attached to it. Your merman will be reading out of a family heirloom. :)

      ... Swim, man, swim!

    9. OOohhhh... I must see all the owner pictures once he arrives! I tried thinning my herd to get him, but there are just no bites... :sigh Oh well. :) He isn't sold out yet. ;) I still have time to win the lottery.

    10. Heh, he definatelly looks like an ancient Norse god, because he's also going to be the character I've had a while, but whose doll form I decided to change as soon as I saw this guy.
Jormungandr alias Leviathan alias Kraken etc. The worldsnake, if you will. ;)
I've mixed some H.P. Lovecraft to the whole shabang, so huuuuuuge merman suits him more than perfectly. <3 *blabbers on*

    11. Ah, Midgardsormen? I think that is what we call him/it in Norway ;) Lol, I cannot help but mixing some Warcraft into my Norse God theme, he does have a nice Naga-bloodelf hybrid look. Ohh, now I know what he should wear, some blue green silver shimmery thing Warcrafty outfit  *Need to find tons of materials and practice a lot*

    12. Yeah!! [IMG] Krakens and Lovecrafts and chthulhoids, oh my! Excellent. That was one of the first things I thought of... having my own little R'yleh... *cackle* XD Then I decided I would rather have a pretty glittery-blue swimmy merman, instead of a squamous eldritch Thing Who Cannot Be Named sitting around the house. I think I just like names with apostrophes in them.

      Worldsnake... too cool.

    13. He is beautiful but I just can't afford him from here. I guess I'll just dream now -_-

    14. If I get that money tree that is due for me, I am getting him with everything, he is just so gorgeous, can't wait to see owner pics of him, so spam away people so I can drool:love

    15. JennyNemesis, I'm so glad someone ordered this lovely boy with everything! He is just perfection! I hope you'll spam some photos for those of us who are living vicariously through you.

If I didn't have so many dolls already, this boy could have been "The One" for me (I don't like buying unless a doll is THAT special). Sadly, I'm out of space and money for such a gorgeous doll... :(

(although I'm still tempted, of course... if they still remain on sale with their irresistible siren's call, I don't know if I can hold out!!!) *_*

    16. Gotta lift this baby up... I just got good neews from Soom about my Vega man. They said they're planning to ship him out next weekend. :D The long wait is almost over. Yay! Can't wait to see him in person because he's my first WS, first MA and first big male. A lot to wait for!

    17. OMG! I can't wait to see your photos of him!

    18. @Annie, oh wow!! Really? :sumomo: When did you order him? I'm wondering if that means the rest of us will get our shipping-notices soon... I didn't order mine until March 19, so I don't know if mine will take longer. I've been trying not to be impatient.

    19. Jenny, I certainly wasn't among the first ones to place their orders. I ordered him on March 17. So I think and hope that everyone who ordered him before or after that date will be getting their dolls soon. :)

    20. Oh boyeeeee. .. I can't wait... I don't have any place for him to sit when he arrives, but I still can't wait... ;; Am also not looking forward to the taxi-cab ride home from the office with that giant BOX. My last doll was a 67cm Mano, who came in a box big enough to smuggle an Oompa-Loompa. Hoiw big is THIS box going to be? XD (I bought a carrying-bag too!)

Now I'm struggling to pick a name for him before he gets home... I'm down to the last two choices! (The last two are always the hardest to choose between.)
