1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Monthly Doll May (Taurus) the Third Land: Sard - Night Odyssey Discussion

May 15, 2008

    1. I'm wondering if the hooves are easily removed for dressing the doll?

    2. In my experience with Beryl, I'd say, "sort of." The elastic runs all the way through the hoof. When you look at the bottom outside of the hoof, you can see a hook deep in the center holding it in place. To get just the hoof off, you'd need pull the hoof away from the leg, clamp the elastic with forceps or something, remove the hook and hoof, dress her, and put it back together again. I haven't tried it, but it looks possible.

Edit: clarified that whole clip vs clamp thing.

    3. Let me add it was tough getting that thick string through that tiny hole so if anyone tries this, you do need a good string puller and pair of forceps. Her body is an easy restring thankfully, but that took a lot of strength to get that back together again. *_* I guess it will be the same for Sard.

    4. But then you wouldn't be able to get the pants on (pen in the way). Someone a few pages back had the idea of swapping to the human feet to get pants on. This seems like a great idea.

Personally, I tend to use bits of string to tie the elastic to the extremities. You just cut through this when you want to remove a hand or foot (having secured the elastic with a pen/chopstick beforehand) and retie with a new bit. S hooks would do the same job, of course.

    5. madammaumau>> oh, i meant, instead of clipping off a whole chnuk of elastic, slip a placeholder on to help dump on the normal feet, and then slip on the pants. :3

    6. Ah, no, I don't think brighnasa actually meant cut the elastic, more grab it with the forceps. Wow! You'd have to use a new piece of elastic each time you changed his pants! I know this is an expensive hobby, but let's keep it within limits!

    7. Yup. Forceps are just a kind of clamp. No cutting involved!

EDIT: And there is a cool placeholder thingie for this purpose out there. It's some kind rubber ball with a hook in it. A friend got a pair of those to use when she had to remove hands to dress a doll and it worked really well.

    8. Did anyone get an answer as to whether Sard has teeth like Dia or not? :?

    9. do you know where your friend got the placeholder thingie? im curious to see it and i might want one..

    10. if I remember correctly it was a yes to the teeth :)

    11. Seriously? :sweat Ahahaha....:doh

Even my Mother is trying to persuade me to go for him.

    12. wow you are one of the lucky ones then! my mom still thinks i am crazy :sweat

    13. I would like to try these as well.....sounds like a great idea!

    14. What is this miraclous sounding tool you speak of?? I would love to have one of those!

    15. honestrabbit:
I'll see if I can round her up and lend them to me so I can take a photo. They're really useful.

And here is a photo of the inside of Beryl's hoof, in case it helps. It seems likely that Sard will be the same way.

    16. Go for him, he is awesome.:):)

    17. honestrabbit: Here is the aforementioned thingie.

      These are small ones, meant to replace a doll's hands while you're dressing him, but something like this should work for the legs, too. They um, used to be more hooky, but they've stretched out a bit. ^_^;;

    18. those are cool! where did you get them? i must have some...

    19. Those ARE cool! I want to get some too!

      Nice thingies Brighnasa!:wiggle

    20. kathrynmary and Loagaeth: My friend picked up the thingies at a convention (I think it was BJDC Austin last year).

I think it would be easy to make if you can't find them for sale anywhere. It's basically just a hard rubber ball with a screw-in hook set into it. The rubber needs to be really hard though, or the hook will pull out if the doll is tightly strung.
