1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Monthly Doll May (Taurus) the Third Land: Sard - Night Odyssey Discussion

May 15, 2008

    1. Thanks for the input on blushing--buying it or not... and having it around the joints or not...

I'm still thinking about what I should do! I like the look of SOOM's blushing and faceups, but it's certainly less expensive and more control-able (as in having it in the joints or not), if done myself (although I just SO lazy it'd probably take me years to get around to it--and it's so nice to have it done and the doll ready to go!).

    2. I think once I see his bare legs/horns I'll get off my lazy butt and find someone to blush for me. XD Unless the person I find knows a way to do the joint without any problems I'm just going to avoid it. << I move my dolls around way too much to pay for paint that's just going to chip off. D8

    3. if you're still worrying about the blushing and the joints issue, try looking at it this way- the fur swirls are only around his ankles, you could blush it yourself and you wouldn't have that much to do if you choose to concentrate on coloring just the fur. same with that pointy thingamajig on the back of his leg.

i'm actually thinking i won't blush as high on his lower leg because of where the fur is actually sculpted.

    4. I would never order a preblushed Sard..... Id buy a secondhand one but I would definately rub it all off and start again. I love blushing and tend to do a much more thorough and realistic job of it than the companies do. That, and I would not want him to be brown-furred anyway.

Plus I could experiment my way around the chipping issue if I were to do it all myself. Personally I have considered adding unspun silk to the backs of the legs to cover the fragile parts, so any impact that would occur would be buffered, and chips nigh unto invisible if they should occur. Simple mods can make all the difference with things like this.

Anybody get one home yet? I am still desperate to buy one off yas. *LOL*

    5. well he's offical sold out, man i hold out for soooo long, But now...on to the next month, which is this, and leo, leo gah gah

    6. Does anyone know the measurements for Sard? This is my first Soom doll and I can't find where they put stuff like wig/eye size. Thanks. <3

    7. It's listed on Sard's own page, where they give you the details about him like who sculpted him, what eyes he'll come with and so forth. :)

    8. D8 Wtf, how could I have missed that? XDD Sorry, I'm dumb and used to the stuff being at the bottom of the page in text, not in a picture. Thanks~

    9. ... Decided to go for the body-blushing, even though I really don't have the money... I'm just so horribly lazy about blushing and painting stuff myself! I'm doing as much layaway as possible, so won't get him for AGES!!! Ah, well... Will need to make some money first, anyway! *_*

    10. I'm really curious to see how posable they are... Owner photos are just so much more informative than the shop photos, I think! I hope owner photos will be posted here soon...! :D

    11. I'm wondering if the elastic has to be especially tight for posing, since some of the poses that are supposedly attainable (especially the crouching ones) have every leg joint bent.

In my normal posing experience, usually super-tight stringing helps overcome the buckling-joints thing for bent-joint poses.

      I'm worried that the tight stringing (if that's the case) might kill the resin or something. ;~;

    12. I ordered a blank sard + wig so hopefully he will be here soon-ish. 8D I'm definitely going to suede him. I want to pose him in crazy ways. xD I doubt I'll be able to do that crouch, but I won't confirm that until I try.

    13. I just peeked in on the Beryl thread, and they're saying the Beryls are coming strung pretty loose and need to be tightened. The problem is that if you've blushed the hooves, the tight stringing will wear/chip the blushing. I suppose sueding or wiring is the only solution? That'd be okay for me; my Delf needs his arms wired/sueded anyway, so may as well wait and buy supplies for them both. A bonding moment for my boys!

    14. You knwo...I've never wired or suaded any of mine. This boy might be a first for me :) Mine was ordered within the first few days, blank with a wig so...hopefully soon...oh, the pic spam-age that will ensue!

    15. it worries me a little to hear some beryl's have been loosely strung because i don't have much experience re-stringing and sueding. i'll actually be doing so to my shiwoo tonight and tomorrow. hopefully all will go fairly well and i will feel more confident if my sard arrives like a floppy puppet.

    16. Another Soom thread, another reminder:

Any discussion about shippping notices, who ordered seam sanding, what stage of payment you're at, etc. goes into the Soom Waiting Room thread. Anything that sounds like waiting room chat will be removed from this thread.

      Thanks for reading.

    17. blackwingsblackheart>> oh well, i suppose i'll add my sard to the growing list of boys that i need to restring. x_x

my list is already approaching half a dozen dolls long. ><

    18. Oh, wow, that's a lot of work lined up. Is there a doll meetup anywhere near you? We have occasional workshops where people restring or change eyes, and there's always a helping hand, if not a stringing tool, available at regular meetings. Sounds like you need a restringing bee, like a quilting bee! I can just see it: yards of elastic and dolls in pieces all along a row of folding tables. On the other hand, you might be like me and seriously picky about whom I allow to touch any of my dolls, much less [beautiful, pricey, chip-prone] Sard...

    19. Wouldn't tightening the stringing merely be putting another knot into the elastic? Or am I totally off about these things ? (I've never re-strung a doll!)

    20. blackwingsblackheart>> some of my friends are customizers, and i've learnt quite a bit from them. i can restring my own dolls, though it's much preferable if i have an extra set of hands to help maintain tension while i knot the elastic. ^^

there are usually one to two meets per month, occasionally more. yay for living on an asian island with a relatively big number of fellow owners~~ *3*

i'm sure my friends would help me out, though, if i asked. :3

i've been putting off having a restinging party at my place. XD i provide food and A/C, they provide their muscle power. XD
