Soom Monthly Doll May the Second Land: Chrom - Bane of Wood

I really hope the rest of the pics aren't that blindingly photoshopped. Soom has been going for overexposure lately, but c'mon. Let us see what we're buying.

I think I will be safe after all. The first one had me worried but the second does nothing to wow me. Another fur wig. Another skimpy pseudo-bondage outfit with a cape. /shrug. Just not my style, I guess.

 

Eh, I'm not super fond of the outfit or hair either, but I wouldn't be buying them anyway. I haven't been very partial to an outfit since Beryl really.

Interesting side note I found in the reviews. Someone suggested that the name "Chrom" comes from Irish mythology. From what I've read Chrom was a very ambiguous but dangerous god. Name meanings differ from "dark crescent" to "bloody crescent" among others. As the commenter said that doesn't have much to do with wolves, but I wonder if they'll be playing on the more feral nature of the animal. Doing a simple Google images search I did find one or two pictures tagged with the name of dragons or dragon-like creatures, perhaps that's what he is? That might account for the combination of characteristics we're seeing.

Because they are evil, evil people. Who else would create a possible big wolf doll just when I had already purchased one of the small wolf dolls? Really, they must be stopped.

 

First teaser did nothing for me, second teaser made me curse. That outfit is just what I've been looking for for my IO...and I've always loved wolves. Heck. My username means 'Red Wolf'! I'm going to love him, I know it. But I'm poor so I wont be able to get him. And then I'll cry. Ah, Soom. How I love and hate thee.

 

FTR I was NOT fishing. its called making conversation. Grr. Anyway.

I saw the strange texture on his ribcage as well in that second picture and dismissed it thinking it was the hideous burnout making me see things. *L* I'm glad to see I'm no the only one who thinks that ...nothing.... might be...something. *L* If I do decide to go for him it wont be immediate - no munnies. But I dunno, I still gotta watch and see the whole shebang. Cause if the torso has been sculpted for freaky muscles or fur? Suddenly he looks cooler to me. But then, if Soom went for ears, hands AND extra sculpting on the torso (which would be a smart move, time-wise) they probably wont have gone for fuzzy puppy paws at all. And then, if he has no paws, he declines in interest to me. Hmm. Looks like Chrom could be my big 'on-the-fencer'.

PS, I just figured it out. It IS sculpting on the torso, but only on one side. Hence the one furry sleeve. He's half-transformed, dudes..... maybe his left arm is a big manly rippling thing with a paw, and the other arm is still human? And one of the photos is flipped? Ouhhh... suddenly this becomes extra intriguing....

 

KasaMadhuri777 if he only has one claw-- im out. I would not be interested in human legs; and just one massive claw thingy... meh... *shrugs thats just me though. Im hopeing for the whole SHEBANG. though.. now thinking about it, hes going to cost alot. @_@

 

Kasa, we still looking at the overexposed second teaser pic? His toro looks to me like it's even in the 'furry' transformedness. Also, I would think he has TWO clawed paws. Furry clawed paws in normal skin. Similar to Euclase's dead hands in grey skin. One paw would be SILLY.

 

meh, dont think ill be soomed.but hopefully he'll have some resin weapons like hati &skoll? wolf feet would be awesome, but i'd prolly never use them. I can keep saving for my current(expensive) doll plans! whew

 

This thread is quickly becoming the exact reason I don't go into doll discussion threads. But whatever. I'm not trying to start any more animosity.

I dunno. That 'extra sculpting' on the side of his torso might just turn out to be a trick of the disgusting overly-photoshop'd-ness. I don't rightly know what Soom could add to the body to make it seem 'mid-transformation' if that is, indeed, what they're going for. I just hope it doesn't look dumb. I mean, it seems like a rather hit-or-miss concept.

 

To me from the second shot he's wearing
a one sleeved cape/cloak. I believe that's
simply his ribcage (compare spinel) with
odd photoshop lighting. Would be interesting
if it were old battle scars though, maybe.
The whole one wolf claw idea is awful &
wouldn't make any sense...everyone would
be trying to make their own left claw

Hm. I’m not at all sure about that single furry arm. A single wolf claw would just be weird. The angles of his face and eyes are gorgeous, even with the glaring picture.

I am rather surprised they would use such an unflattering picture as the second teaser. It certainly doesn't make me want the outfit!

ETA: I wish they'd put him up. I'm not getting anything done going back to refresh him all the time!

 

I think the extra sculpting on his torso is some sort of scarring. And if he has paws, I'm hoping he'll have awesome anthro wolf feet as well. If not then I'll be mostly interesting in his outfit. Feathers, fur, leather armor? Oh yes please. Looks like he wont be released tonight...maybe tomorrow then. ^^

 

i dunno, i'm in agreement with the few who say he's too femmy. It seems lately that all of Sooms monthly boys look like girl heads on boy bodies. And if he's a wolf, i certainly hope there is an optional head with a completely wolfed out face. Snout, teeth bared, sculpted hair, etc. That would rock, and make him worth it.
I could always change the head to a different, more masculine head

 

Of course, it's always going to be a matter of personal taste, but the general consensus of the doll community is that they think the somewhat softer looking males are just fine and dandy. And the same with the wolf head. While I think that that would be completely amazing and unique and weird, I don't think the doll community's reaction would be a necessarily positive one. But again, personal taste.

I think it's nice that in this hobby, there is the option to switch heads if the body is really great, but the sculpt isn't one you like. I really do like some of the more masculine moulds out there, so if this MD's body is something different and cool it'd be interesting to see a more manly face on it.

 

I think he is gorgeous, and I have been waiting (and waiting and waiting) for a non-white or fantasy colored MD.... so if he is a complete human doll (love the ears even if they aren't human) he will be mine :-) Checking out the SG MD waiting rooms, the dolls after Amber have much smaller lists of people waiting (wonder if the wait is making buyers really really think hard before committing to a doll they are paying for in JAN and getting in JULY?) But maybe they can catch up just a little by then, as the lists are smaller and there isn't all the odd colored resins ;-)

 

OMG, I am just incredibly happy that it's not more horns and hooves. Those were seriously getting on my nerves. A werewolf is something quite welcome to me, even if it's not quite my cup of tea. Not a fan of the elf ear-fang combo, but I do like them separately.

I'm a bit too blinded atm to tell if I will pine away for him. I do like his faceup, though! Upon closer inspection, it looks like there is hair painted onto his hand. At the same time, it could be resinfur blushed...

In any case, I'm always interested to see what's new!

4 hours until my exam...X.x Good morning all.

I'd like him to be a bit scarred like IO, perhaps with the original bite/claw mark that gave him Lycanthropy. Considering the non-chunkiness of the visible handpaw I think he'll have a pair, otherwise the effect will be lost and the doll would look a bit daft.

I'm not massivly fond of the outfit, I guess it'll depend what comes with it. I've yet to purchase clothes for my dolls that are anything but 'random bargains off the market or stuff that I've made'.

 

I'm on the fence about him. Not to be a spoil sport, but I'm not going to even bother with the 'what animal part' will he have thoughts. I dunno, with Vesuvia everyone was very set on what she would be and then so many comments of disappointment... but she has as much potential as the rest of the girls. *shrug* No expectation = no disappointment = amazed at everything rule for me.

So far... I can just make out his features in the second picture. I like his eyeshape. I like the idea of the outfit (even if proper armour would be better) not sure if it's what a fire God would wear... but then considering the Soom outfits already. I wouldn't say 'never' to buying him considering my experience with Heliot, so far I like what I see just not the ears. But I don't really think I'll be tempted enough to bring him home, human or non-human.

The detail on his side to me looks like the shadows from his fur cape causing more 'lines' on his torso, other than that it looks like the Super Gem torso *i dunno*.
