Soom Monthly Doll November (Scorpio) the Third Land: Vesuvia - Poison Kiss

Nov 24, 2008

    1. My husband who is a red-blooded red-neck found her to be "creepy". He prefers the traditionally pretty dolls like the Elfdoll girls.

    2. I'm in the disappointed faction. I'm not sure what I expected, but definitely not horns or 'temptation high heels'. I wish Vesuvia's outfit could still be sexy but in a slightly classier way. Can the back be closed to use it without the tail?

There's nothing wrong with her really but Soom got us used to such high standards for the monthly dolls that I'm starting to have unrealistic expectations ;)

I love the pearl violet resin though and I can't wait to see owner pics. It'll be interesting to see how the tail poses too.

    3. I love her face... it's the first Monthly dolls face I have really been enthused by since Sard. I like the purple colour too, but I think I'll just enjoy her from afar. I haven't got funds for random doll purchases these days.. it's all going into resin, silicone and student loans mostly.

    4. I wouldn't say the majority. I could risk getting banned and start naming some very offensive stereotypes that don't really apply to a specific group very well at all....

Stereotypes, I think, aren't so much a majority thing, but a vocal minority.

That said if I showed my boyfriend this doll (or his brother or his friends) I'm pretty sure they would give the same response. "That's kinda creepy on a doll!" So, I dunno about these kinds of dolls really roping in that many guys. You really have to be predisposed to the idea of collecting girl figures beforehand.

But I dunno. I can't really see spending on lots of money on something because I find it sexy. I would like it to be somewhat more worthwhile for me.

That said, I still don't really see the "sexy" on this doll aside from the outfit (which is optional). She makes me think of Topaz-like fairy character.

    5. Lycansea>> I meant that as a whole, show a guy a pretty scantily-clad woman and he'd probably ogle it a bit, or at least take a token look. It wasn't so much a 'show a guy a doll' thing, since it's not a norm for guys to show interest in dolls (action figures and figurines are fine, but not dolls? That's one of the things in society that really confuse me...)

It was in response to the statement that guys wouldn't find a skimpily-dress woman worth looking at.

Stereotypes usually have some basis in truth. They're often fragments of truth (as perceived by one point of view) blown out of proportion by exaggeration, that people generally in agreement with that point of view would believe.

I think that people who like the idea of a pretty leather-babe would be quite happy to shell out for her (as seen from some of the guy collectors that I've seen slap down hundreds of dollars for boxes of mostly-underdressed anime figurines). The spending power of an otaku/fan is incredible. x___x

    6. OMG, isn't it though!!! If you've ever seen a biding war between two Otaku, it's something you'll never forget.

Lycansea, of course you'd need more than sex appeal to invest in a doll. Women by in large hold more value in social stimulus vs. visual or physical. Men are opposite, and I really don't know why that's viewed as so...gross? Or weird, or dirty?

One of the main driving forces for life on earth is reproduction. That is fact. Another proven scientific fact, is the first two things any straight male will look at is breasts and butt (Homosexuals like butts too and still find breast beautiful, but not attractive). Now, I realize this might drive a few to 'lesbian town', which might not be a bad place for ya as I've seen it bring life contentment to a few friends of mine.

So lets lay off the crankiness. If you like the doll great, if not well then you have more $$$ for the amazing dolls that you can expect in the next few months. That's whats REALLY important anyway :)

    7. I fail to see how the chocolate comparison is disturbing, and the whole issue about her being sexy is flying over the top of my head. Seriously: what's wrong with Soom making her sexy?

    8. just went to the soom site and saw her .. omg la.
she is dead sexy... but not my type.
first time i see violet skin..
soom dolls really surprise me everytime a new doll is release

    9. I am one of the few that is completely in love with her..I've been looking for a dom amazon type girly and she is perfect for me. I'm not too keen on her outfit or even her tail' but her face to me is so beautiful and her skin colour is divine. I don't think she is as daring as she could be, and not much of an MD in comparison, but she is a gorgeous doll

    10. It's more the stereotype. I mean, it's hard to say what the definition of sexy is, I bet there's alot of women who are sexy and look nothing like this doll or what the magazines show of women to be "sexy". There's nothing wrong with soom making her sexy. I don't find her clothing particularly sexy, even though it's the dominatrix idea. Cool idea, just some bits of her dont' seem in place to me. But yeah, I do love the doll, would get it and make her my own version of what I see as sexy in an outfit

    11. I, too, am completely in love with her. Her outfit doesn't do anything for me, nor does the tail, but what possibilities she possesses!!!

    12. whoops! Double post excitement.

    13. They put up new pictures on the Dreamboard that show how her tail mechanism works...

I think its super inventive actually, I bet a bunch of other companies will do this with other jointed animal tails now. And the shot of the two of them sitting next to each other is super cute :D

    14. it appears that you have to un-string the doll to change the torso. i wouldn't have the patience to do that each time.

    15. I like her face a lot, but currently I'm not such a big fan of the recent Soom skin colors. :/ I prefer having a choice. I think it's pretty, but like Euclase, the color was what made me decide against getting him.
I'm not one for the clothing either, but I think she's an interesting new doll. I look forward to seeing her in the gallery. :)
Alas, she is pretty, but not 'I need to buy her pretty' for me.

    16. Nice. She and Beryl could be sisters; I think. Wish I had excess amounts of cash to spend on some of these lovely dolls.

    17. I like the skin color and I like the idea of a tail. It works for the poisionous insect that she is. It makes her a "reverse fairy" or elf. I like it. The outfit doesn't seem like it can close in the back, so its for the tail torso only.

    18. hello everyone, about Vesuvia i must admit i find her quite creepy, but so i did with bix, scorpion's tails or crab's arms are so really not my cup. I'm a bit disapponted because i was hoping for a release more like Topaz or even Beryl if it was going to be a girl. ANyway the resin colour and the face are really pretty in my opinion and very peculiar. she's probably going to be a hit and finishing off before time

    19. So the heels are resin just like the Elfdoll high heels?

    20. I think she's great for Scorpio. Scorpio is supposedly the most sensual sign in the Zodiac so I think it was definitely an accurate depiction of sensual, and the scorpion tail was perfect to punctuate it as alluring yet deadly.

I really love it. She's gorgeous.

I don't understand what the big fuss is about with her being "Skanky". Skanky looks cheap. She doesn't look like a floozy, but then again that's probably just me. =/

They're trying to play off the sensuality of Scorpio with her concept. She's supposed to look that way for the pictures >< When she comes home, without the outfit that you didn't decide to buy(because apparently that's what makes her into a skank /porn star) you can stick the doll in Topaz's dress or a baggy pair of blue jeans with a hoodie and a beanie and make her a purple rapper. Consider not making your entire opinion of the doll based on lighting, an outfit, and a picture with a whip. It's silly. It really is.

I don't quite understand what else besides a scorpion could be done with Scorpio. She has the tail which is pretty cool in itself, she's purple/gray and glittery, has heels, horns, and claws. That's pretty cool when combined with her glitter-skin.

I think it also needs to be recognized that Soom does want to keep this doll not so specialized that people won't buy her. If she had extra legs that were insect like, she might have standing issues, extra arms combined with odd skin colors would make her hard to clothe (should you decide against the outfit), and harder to sell should you decide that she isn't for you, which would put off a lot of potential buyers, and make her almost impossible to split.

The more specialized, the higher the cost, and I doubt Soom would want to make a doll that you in particular liked just so you could say "ZOMG, PRETTY! Way to go Soom! $1000 for the base price? I can't afford her right now . . . lol?"

I'm not saying that those that would like stuff like that couldn't afford it, but do you think as a seller of a product that you would want to sell 5 harder to efficiently produce dolls for 1000 each or 10 easier to efficiently produce dolls for 710 each?

Not attempting to preach but I think people should give Soom and their creation a break. Scorpio and scorpions are not necessarily the easiest things to be 100% innovative and creative with, while still making it affordable and appealing to more than a few consumers.

As for Bix sucking, give it a break too >.> It was either that or make it into a Mother, which I highly doubt would be able to fit in with the rest of the Zodiac signs. That one was hard to pull off. Look up Cancer's profile, technically Cancers are allegedly very family oriented and resistant to changes, etc. Not quite an assassin with a crab claw, an assassin or ninja is a good show of one trait of Cancer which is loyalty.

Overall, I think we're starting to expect a little too much out of Soom. They're working with what they've got and keeping their releases affordable to as many people as they can while still keeping them high enough quality to make their dolls desirable and worthwhile limiteds.

Soom's still a company and if they don't appeal, they don't sell; if they don't sell, artists don't get paid well, and artists look for work elsewhere. They're not in it solely for the love of doll making, they're in it to make money. They want to make something many people will buy not just a few. As people have said Vesuvia won't look like that once someone gets her home and does something else with her.

Now if her clothes were baked on there might be a little more reason to say she looks like a porn star, because then she'd be stuck like that XD
