Soom Monthly Doll November (Scorpio) the Third Land: Vesuvia - Poison Kiss

ah dont make me cry! i loved topaz ears and hands and i love this girls skin....

 

The disappointed responses people are displaying I kind of predicted, especially with the speculation thread being so popular. Soom are not obligated to meet any of our blown up expectations or wild ideas. I think people are starting to expect a little too much of them and taking it all for granted, then when they don't do what we think they should, we get disappointed with them. Beryl and Sard, to me, were pretty straightforward interpretations of the star sign, and especially Io. So what's the problem with a Scorpion seductress for Scorpio?

Personally I find her beautiful and captivating, and I'd love to have her head.....but it's purple, so it won't go on my CW Super Gem body. >.<

 

I think she kicks ass and don't really understand the complaints about her. Oh well, to each his own...

I've not been a fan of many of the outfits that come with the monthly dolls and I don't buy dolls for outfits anyway, so that really doesn't matter to me. She is a beautiful doll, with lovely resin and a really awesome scorpion tail. As a doll she is a blank slate, you can make her into anything you wish. I can't wait to see what people do with her. If I had the money I'd buy her myself, but it's impossible for me right now.

But... that extra waist part ((for the tail)) must be awful to put on and off, harder then the sards and beryls! >_< Not to mention... how do you explain an extra waist part laying around to someone whos not into BJDS ^_^' hehe.

Don't know why but the bags to me just make her appear delicate, kind of sweet almost? Hope I'm making some kind of sense and not coming off as a total weirdo.

And yes! Really looking forward to seeing her in different faceups by owners later.

I also think that besides the fact that the horns and the outfit are not too original and NOT in my cup of tea.

She has great features and LOTS of potential to be great. A lot of room for the future owners to work with

Hmmm....if I bought her I think I'd just keep the scorpion tail on her all the time. It's just too cool for words. Reminds me of Adiane from Gurren Lagann.

 

i love her skin tone, her outfit itself is kickass, her face remind me of a cross between berly and onxy, but now right, i draw a blank on her characters, if even i have a deadly poisonous snake she'll get along with just fine. But, yea, much as i adore her skin tone. i doubt i can fit her in here at all

 

Well when I think virgo I think more of a white clad shy virgin maiden type, not a fairy with see through hands & feet. They opted to go more with the nature aspect of the sign rather than the virgin maiden aspect, which was what I was kind of dreading they would do. And they did have a femme fatale. Everyone seems to be glossing over Aquarius, which was the Deneb Planet Spirit. She was scantily clad, in high heels and ready to kill. I also never said anything about redefining gender roles, I just think that there is nothing that really impresses me about their representation of Scorpio. And I said already I think her resin color is interesting, its just not enough to sell me on a doll.

Yeah, like I said, i think she'd be fine as a regular doll, just not as my sign's representation.

Right, but all I'm saying is that they didn't NEED to associate her with sex/reproductive organs, all their dolls are sexy/attractive. And no, I'm not surprised that's what she is, because thats how scorpios are ALWAYS portrayed. I'm saying I'm disappointed that Soom didn't take it in another direction like they have with many of their other dolls. I mean, I hardly think that anyone would have thought Libra would be a claw footed grey egyptian god. Sure they may have used Libra's most obvious symbol, the scales, but they took it to a whole other level of creativity. This girl looks straight off a shirt at hot topic. And there are other better aspects of scorpio that I would much rather our sign be associated with like passion (which is not the same as sexual lust and prowess) or determination, stubborness (which I actually consider a good thing ). I just felt they put a lot more time and thought into the other dolls' "characters" and features than they did with her.

 

I think she is great, would trade my Incoming Topaz for her, but that Pearl Violet skin...it would still look more grey than purple to me and probably turn me off..now if it was a true violet color that would be so much better. {I have a vinyl doll from the 70's that has purple skin and green eyes, she's a witch but if they could make her that color..I would love her!}

and on a side note...I LOVE her outfit...would LOVE to get it for my Beryl....

 

I think she's GORGEOUS. Oh man..if I wasn't broke right now -grumbles- She looks so hot..and deadly all at the same time.

I don't see Beryl, Sard, & Io as being straight forward tho. I don't see Aries as being a succubus, yes, the horned/hoofed aspect is part of that sign, but the wings or scantily clad outfit? Nor did taurus have wings either. And Io is close, but I liked that he was a human with a lion mask, not an actual lion like so many people wanted in the thread. And they offered two different heads and different skintones, I just felt they went above & beyond what they needed to with those dolls.

I'm not saying soom has to bow to our wishes, and in most cases I hope they don't, some of the popular ideas in the speculation thread honestly bother me, but I was just hoping to see my sign be more interesting and portrayed differently than it has been in the past.

 

Love sooms experimenting with the resins - coloured, clear and now the pearly (does this mean it shimmers I wonder?) violet! Interesting concept all round and can definitely see her being a relative of Beryls looking at her face..
That waist part is going to be interesting to work with as well...

I'm currently looking at this at work and a friend who loves looking at all my bjd's and the pics etc looked over at my computer and burst out "Demon hooker!"

I see both sides of the debate here though. I'm an Aries and the lingerie-clad succubus Beryl doesn't really capture the competitive, warlike, stubborn qualities I find in myself every day. I can agree with FallenEverdark's point about the Libra interpretation being so unique, where as the cheesy whip and tacky dominatrix outfit really don't fit their running creativity bill. There were plenty of other ways SOOM could have interpreted a sexual, passionate sign without going so typical. I shall have to get my friends' feelings on this, she is a Scorpio.

 

I really love the design of this doll. The high-heels, the outfit, etc. She is really amazing.

I'm glad that Soom also offers a normal waist with her. It's nice for those who don't want a Scorpion girl 24/7.

 

I just want everyone to know, I'm not trying to say she's a bad doll or that anyone is dumb for liking her, I'm just expressing my disappointment in hoping to see soom do something different like I felt they had in the past. Soom as a company can do whatever they want, and its my perogative whether I buy it or not, I'm simply stating that their previous monthly dolls have been so VERY interesting that something as simple as a different resin, scorpion tail and hooker heels just doesn't fit the bar they've set for themselves in the past.

The way I see it as an artist that's taken on massive projects before is this... If I were doing a Zodiac some of the signs would be simple to do, because they have a very established visual representation (ie. Cancer = Crab). But some of the signs would make me draw a total blank - how do you represent the concept of balance and justice in a doll? And sometimes that leads to the most brilliant ideas, because you have no preconceived notion to get in the way of your design.

I think Soom did a faithful and interesting Scorpio, and I don't think its any different from having Gemini be good/evil twins, Leo a lion, or even Pisces a merman...

 

i keep going back and looking at her to see if she is growing on me, but each time i see her i can't help but think she looks like a very expensive Sabyrite Doll, or a Big Bad Barbie.

 

I just checked the SOOM site (because I am soooo out of the loop on doll stuff) and OH GOD THIS GIRL IS LOVELY!

I love the look of her resin and really wish I could afford her...
