Soom Monthly Doll November the Second Land: Galena - Deity Pitta

I go too OT in the waiting rooms and get yelled at, so it's not as fun as it used to be >_< More of you need to add me to msn.

On topic: Should I shell out and get this girl? I love her face... it's so funky and exactly what I was hoping for @_@ But the body and such I don't need. Someone help me justify this XD

 

I say GET HER, but that's mainly because I think you're awesome and want you in the WR xDDD

I go off topic ALL THE TIME too. It's mainly because I want to get to know people, and I often figure that posting random things will lead to people like me replying, which leads to friendship. xD

On a more helpful note, you could just go in a split for the head?
Was it CW or GS you were looking at?
I think you'll only regret it if you don't get at least the head.
Or you could set up your own split and keep the head, then any extras you want?

But you can ALWAYS enjoy another full doll. ALWAYS.
If you just get the head, you'll have to share bodies and so on so I say.. GET THE FULL DOLL!

 

Or you could GET HER and sell/split the body. =3

 

I'm glad to see her skin color options! The three toed feet are much better than Euclases' but the skinny shins are a little odd. Still the sculpting is great and I adore her wig! She's another amazing doll!

 

After Midnitestar (and a couple of other people) suggested that dark Galena's eye/head positioning is what makes the two versions look so different (and as someone who wants to love the GS, but who liked the WS photos better...), I whipped up these edited photos:

All I've done is edit the WS photos to have GS (although I forgot to change her wings in the side-profile one >.>; )

I personally am definitely getting her in GS now - now that I know she'll look fine once her eyes are positioned right and her head isn't posed at that silly upward-glancing angle

 

ARGH! I can't decide on which skintone I like better... I'm trying to make one of my characters who is very loosely based on Ma'at, so any suggestions would be great I'm thinking GS because WS is just going to be waay to pale (and I'm not dying a complete limited).

I'm not the biggest fan of the outfit and everything, so probably a basic w/ eyes.

Are the GS wings tinted grey? I couldn't tell completely.

 

thanks for that photo sharnofshade - great edits! I always wish I could see what they would look like with pupil eyes. lol. I'll have a go seeing if I can edit that up.

 

I still like the WS better than the GS ... the eye position of the GS is directional and doesn't bother me. But I can't help but think the WS's left eye is just A HAIR too far over, and Lazy Dolly Eye Syndrome ... really bugs me.

If I cover the right side of her face, I'm sure she's looking left. If I cover the left side, I'm sure she's looking straight on.

I would probably give her eyes with pupils anyway.

I'm probably going to let a trip to the store make my decision for me this time. I want a girl who can look sweet, and the WS seems like that, but ... AUGH EYES DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS.

 

I would love both the WS & GS ...basic versions, minus wig, eyes, face-ups, outfit & blushing but even then just not possible right now! Damn you Soom! They would fit perfectly as a pair of my Cillandria's Realm characters. Argh! OOh well, there's always that billionth of a chance I win Tuesday's OzLotteries draw (yeah, right!)

 

Already posted this question in the waiting room, since I'm considering getting her wings. Do you think the wings would look decent on a 58 cm body? Arm sockets can be modded, so I'm not worried about that. More about proportion.

 

Hey all, I was wondering if someone could photoshop a Galena (either skin color, but face-on if possible) to show what she'd look like with a more traditional Egyptian-style wig? Thought I was safe enough this go-round, but my sissy just was wondering aloud, so I may be Soomed-by-proxy, LOL!

So Egyptian-style, it would be a pitch black wig with a straight bang and then long hair on either side. I can probably dig up a pic on the interwebs if someone needs more reference, I am fail at Photoshop, so any help is super-appreciated. Thank-you!

Wow, SharnofShade, you certainly made her look a heck of a lot better! I won't be getting this one, but I did really want to commend your Photoshop job! I was going to again marvel at Soom's ability to take crap pictures of gorgeous dolls, but I guess at this point it would almost make sense for Soom to be trying to take the worst possible pictures of their monthlies, considering their backlogs.

 

That's funny, I hate the eye positioning in the WS head, but I want to get WS and the eye positioning is very distracting >_>

I so don't need another full doll. And the wings look kind of odd. But she's a Greek SIREN!!!! Which is awesome.

I never thought about the eyes, but yes, thought the CW looked different somehow, lol. Now I can finally put my finger on what it is. I guess the eyes can make more difference than I thought.

 

I agree that the eye positioning in the CW head is a little off, but I just hate the way the eyes are in the GS head soooo much.
I've always been like this though. I generally don't like it when you can see the white of the eye appearing at the base of the eye. I like to position eyes so the doll is looking slightly up, or to the side, but the GS Galena is done to such an extreme, it looks like her eyes are rolling into the back of her head. ::laughs::

This is the good thing about bjds though!
We can take out the eyes and put them however we fell like it. If we don't like one look, we can try another until we find just what's right for us.

I do think both versions are going to look pretty similar. It's just going to be a case of the skin colour being different.
So if you like the GS photos more but are getting CW, don't worry, your doll will look that amazing when you get the eyes how you want them, and the same visa versa!
I know GS is going to look much more my type when I get those eyes at a more 'me' angle xD

There was something bugging me about the CW head that I couldn't place, and now I know what it is. It's her eyes being slightly off!

Sphaler looks doped to the gills, too (eyes rolling back).
Soom really needs to 1. fix their eyes right for photos and 2. stop photoshopping all the details out. Frankly snapshots look better than their promo pics.
