Soom Monthly Doll October (Libra) the Third Land: Euclase - The last judgement

Oct 20, 2008

    1. Oh I am so trying to get that jewellery! :D

    2. This is probably one doll from Soom I can't pass on... damn it, now I'm going to have to start to think of a layaway plan.

I definately don't know that much about eygptian history/mythology to determine what or who he is, but I'm hoping he'll come in NS or WS and have human legs too >.< I just want him as a blank human doll. (feels a bit silly... the rest is awesome but I wouldn't change him otherwise)

I can't wait for the rest of the photos... I haven't been left speechless over a doll for a very long time now... Soom really took me by surprise this time round.

    3. Releeeeease already so I can decide if I can't afford him or not x___x Pleeeeease Soom! *begs*

    4. I wish they'd actually create a separate set of legs for a mermaid or merman, kind of like they did with Beryl and the hooves. There are mers in fiction and folklore that have split tails so it would be awesome to see a doll with legs that have fish scales or small fins or something like that. It would be cool to see fins or scales on the chest or arms too and maybe seaweed green hair...but I digress as this thread is supposed to be about Soom's October boy. Sorry!

    5. There's a Speculation thread you can run to. ;D

    6. if he has dog legs to match those paws im a soooold! he's a hot dog eheheh

    7. Come on and go up for sale already!
Looks like it won't be 'wow actually ordered on my birthday' thing but still, sacrifice I am willing to make! I reckon he'll go up tomorrow same as Topaz did, and thats when I need to work out what I am ordering him with (already know that body blushing is out the option)

    8. If he comes in tan...wow. Just....wow. 0________0
      Talk about sealing my doom.

I think I'm pretty close to getting him, but like everyone else, I'll need to work out what options I want, and just how pricey he is will determine what I can afford and justify buying.

Seriously, I have never been this in love with a limited.
I hope SO much he'll be amazing. I'm a little unsure about him having animal legs though. It's cool, but not something I'd like to have. I don't think I'd ever use them.

I just can't wait to see more of him. -crosses fingers- I hope he comes in another skin tone...not just gray!

    9. Whoot for the history lesson.XD That's what prompted me to believe it was more Anubis based, but as Wepwawet is a big favorite of mine (despite him pretty much being replaced by other gods) I'm happy to interpret him into the picture. Even if he was depicted white, gray, or even royal purple!
Actually, Wepwawet had many functions. He means 'opener of the ways' and although he may be linked to soldiers as he was a sort of war god (opening the 'way' for victory in battle), he was also a funerary diety (opening the 'way' to the underworld for the dead)- but Anubis replaced his major functions. He was very closely linked to the Pharaoh later on. Them Egyptians and their various stories and functions!XD Of course, they debate his wolfy heritage because of Lycopolis which was named after Wepwawet. I think the Greeks had a bigger influence on his wolf depiction, rather than the jackal son of Anubis image. Either way, I prefer to see him as a jackal since he was depicted almost identical to Anubis, with minor differences, and greater differences related to color representation. Wepwawet was even depicted wearing the unified crown at some point! I just love looking into this diety since he went through so many changes- it's so fascinating! Apparently now people worship him as the trickster!

"Like Anubis, Wepwawet was also a funerary deity, and was one of the earliest of the gods worshipped at Abydos. Early on, Wepwawet's worship paralleled that of Khentyamentiu, but when Osiris absorbed that god's attributes, Anubis filled his funerary role. However, with the rise of the solar cult, particularly during the 12th Dynasty, Osiris was limited to the underworld and the local god and lord of the cemetery at Abydos was filled by Wepwawet, who gained the titles, "Lord of Abydos" and Lord of the Necropolis".
Other cult centers for Wepwawet included Quban, el-Hargarsa, Memphis, Sais and particularly the thirteenth ancient nome of Upper Egypt. This is the location of modern Asyut, which the Greeks called Lycopolis. This may be the origin of the misinterpretation of Wepwawet as a wolf, for Lycopolis can be interpreted as the "Town of the Wolf". Wepwawet's name means "the opener of the ways (or Roads)". We believe this refers to his role in leading the deceased through the underworld as a protector. This attribute of the god is well established in New Kingdom funerary texts such as the Book of Going Forth by Day Book of the Dead, and the Book of That Which Is in the Underworld (Amduat). Wepwawet was also thought of as the messenger and champion of royalty." [Gods of the Egyptians, The (Studies in Egyptian Mythology) Budge, E. A. Wallis]
I'm happy to have several professors entertain my fancies with resources that can tell me a bit more about my favorite figure. The reference is form a very interesting source- well worth looking into!

Ahem. Anyway. Nice to meet people who share another passion (aside from BJD) of mine.

      Back on track.XD
I honestly hope he has a bigger Anubis influence. I figure they would make him gray in that case since they didn't make him black...close enough for color?:?

I actually think it would be neat if he had several elements in him. Like give him normal legs so people can interpret him as Anubis/Wepwawet/Osiris/Horus etc. Whatever they see in him!

My first impression was Anubis due to the scales, but if I do get this doll, I would make him into Wepwawet since he's my favorite...and that's what I see in this doll.^_^ Makes me reconsider getting him in gray- an excellent depiction of my favorite Egyptian god! Of course, white would work too, and it would be a little more practical in matching things (IMO) as I want to put him in some non-Egyptian stuff as well. All depends on what he comes with though.

    10. If he has animal legs I am doomed.

Those ears are wild! I hope they are detachable for travel.

    11. SOOM why~? :...( I've resisted all the monthly dolls thus far... only 3 months left and they burst out THIS boy on me!

His eyes and lips are to die for! :D Oh if he has paw feet or something of the sort, I'm done. I work with animals, there's no way I could resist. :aheartbea

    12. They look magnetic, but I can't be sure... And they are separate from the ears.

[IMG] See? two separate pieces of resin. <3

I totally understand. I feel the same way. TT-TT

    13. I think pawed legs like Sards ( like the Anubis worriors from the Mummy) would have me chewing on my computer screen!! I can't get over this doll, and can't wait for more pictures of him.

    14. ...you had to mention the Mummy movie. I'm doomed.
Those Anubis legs were awesome. >w<

Darn it, now I'm doomed anyway. Looks like I'll end up getting this doll, pawless or otherwise.

    15. I'm dying just from the teaser photos! :drool

I was so excited about the monthly doll for October, since it's my birth month, and woooooow, Soom delivered! :aheartbea

It's a mix of a bunch of things I love! Egypt, gray skin resin, that look in his face... ugh, I want him so badly! Now I'm desperately trying to scramble together as much money as I possibly can to put one on layaway. :(

I'm sad that I probably won't be able to get the outfit. Well, make that practically absolutely won't be able to. But if I can find some way to get this boy... I don't know what I would do.

    16. The more I look at him, and the more I visit this thread, the more I get excited and upset at the same time *laughs*

I really can't justify spending so much on a doll just before a trip to Egypt (I think my mother would literally kill me), and by the time I get back he's not gonna be for sale anymore! D: Oh well, there is always other members photo's to admire when he's released and shipped out!

    17. *grabs DarkRegrets-chan's hand and swings it back and forth* NEW FRIEND!!!! :XD:

And ZOMG, Lemony-chan... get him and bring him with you!!! SO MANY PHOTO OPS.

Meanwhile, KasaMadhuri777 tries to think of things she can sell....

    18. :XD:
      BONDING MOMENT!

Let us take this board by storm with our crazy mad knowledge and united love for BJD and Egypt!

    19. How will we afford him? *cries with you* :...(

Anyway, back on topic! I agree he resembles Anubis... though his ears aren't quite erect, but that's okay, they're still pretty. Anubis also didn't have paws in the art I've seen but I hope Euclase does~

Does anyone know how limiteds work with SOOM? Are there only a set number of dolls? Or do you have to order during a certain time period? Or both?

    20. And Silverstein does the exact same thing. :(

His hands give me the impression he might have animal feet? I think it'd be amazing if he does, but even if he doesn't, I still want him to an ungodly degree. D: :aheartbea

Oh Soom, how you torture me...
