SOOM Monthly Doll September the Second Land: Sphaler - Millennium Mireu

Sep 21, 2009

    1. First I've heard of this. Was it really bad, Meeve? I really wish people would remember that there are artists at the other side of these dolls.

    2. This happens for the second time as just for cass the previous MD, and shooked me a bit..you've wested your time to offend soom artist when you simply can pass by, and do not simply buy..i relal do not get what this people think...

    3. OMG! I know! I'd love to see dragon parts! I love hooves but I want to see a change.

    4. Guh! Necro, I feel so bad for you because I'm so totally not sOomed. :doh I wish we could swap -- I bet it would make things much easier!

    5. I'm surprised at the negative comments on the Soom page earlier (fortunately now they seem to be mostly positive or at least toned down - some of those comments were just psycho, people were responding as if Soom owed them the doll of their dreams or something). My first impression was that he was one of the better MDs. I like this color palette, I like the costume, and I do like the face though it's not love yet, so I don't get the lack of love in earlier comments. But eh, that's just me. I never understood the overwhelming popular approval for Heliot and Euclase either, as both have faces I honestly don't like.

    6. i think this might be the only soom md (aside from bix, oh cry T_T) that i really like. i'll have to wait to see his entire body, but i love what i see, so far. his outfit looks stunning.

    7. Random question- if his resin IS pearl grey or something along those lines, can it be sanded?
I prefer my dolls sanded, but if his resin is 'special' I'll have no problem not sanding. I explain it to myself that way...and save money.

I am very curious about his leg options!

    8. Hrm... I would think that sanding would be okay as long as the resin is pearl grey all the way thru. The problems with sanding come in when the resin is dyed (like a dip).

    9. I was curious because I don't think they recommended not sanding Euclase. So yeah.

    10. If they feel he can be sanded, they'll offer sanding as an option. Recall, they offered the option for Beyla, but not Bygg, so if they don't offer a Sphaler sanding option, then it means Soom doesn't think it's a good idea. Now, that doesn't mean it's impossible, but it might be a good indication... :sweat

      .hlp

    11. I think a dragon is an awesome idea. I have been wishing for a dragon sculpt. But I don't remember dragon's having antlers like that?? He looks like a reindeer to me. I think his face is beautiful. But I like Chrom's face the best so far.

How does the monthly doll sculpts work? Do they never use that sculpt again or can you buy it as a basic edition?

    12. Soom's MDs are offered on a limited time. After that, there's no way you can buy them as basic dolls. They're always limited. :sweat And yes, I like Chrom's face the best so far, but that's because I own one! :aheartbea (read : can only afford one!).

    13. I can kinda understand cuz I was slightly disappointed that he wasn't gray/unicorn, and could not tell what he was at first, but some of that was totally uncalled for. It's just a badly photoshopped teaser anyways. There are a ton of other dolls...or at least respect their efforts in taking risks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholders. My first impression of Vesuvia was even worse ("bleh!") but she's absolutely gorgeous in real life. I for one am very excited to see sculpts that seem more Asian too.

I had assumed he was cream white skin, and that they had overdone the photoshopping like they always do. I seriously wish they'd lay off the extreme photoshopping. At least this teaser shows more of the doll then just like a nose and eyes tho.

    14. Where were those comments? I must have passed over them.
Just take a look at the Idealian doa thread...I was attacked
for asking why people had to be so negative and just come there
to complain. My feeling is, if you don't like a doll go somewhere
else!! We are fortunate to live in a world with so many choices
and the ability to buy dolls from other countries without traveling
to them.....people have become spoiled. I'm really happy so many
are liking Sphaler even though he isn't what a lot of us were
      expecting/hoping for:)

edit:Where's the photoshopping?? He's the least photoshopped
      MD I've seen in ages!!

    15. Oh, I know. I was interested in knowing about the other resin colors, because I thought maybe it was just grey resin that should be left alone. :)

I hope he'll be pearl grey or something along those lines. His resin looks gorgeous! And I adore his antlers!

That said, how bad are Soom's seams on the MD's? Thanks for all your input guys!

    16. Hehe, a few times I tried to explain to people my thought that Bygg and Beyla were a mixture of Heliot and Onyx, since onyx was basically just a white and grey doll and heliot was a unicorn so they made the "minis" off of the two by simply making white and grey unicorns. I wish more people got that idea, since it seems a lot of people don't like this doll SIMPLY because they were hoping for a grey unicorn.

Personally, I'm super happy they didn't do a grey unicorn. Even though I would LOVE to own one, I'd feel kind of jipped that they're doing the same idea over again. I love that soom is taking a risk and going for a design that's either love or hate for a lot of people! After all, that's what made (and continues to make) Soom such a stand-out and popular company anyways right?

Even though I'm not wild about this face, I LOVE this boy. This may have to be my first full MD from Soom... I was supposed to be saving for a girl MD or a yosd sized on dangit! Gaaaah but he's an asian lung! If he does come home I'm doing some serious sanding on that chin though... a little too box like for me XD

Part of me hopes that it's a new resin color because I've been dying for a special resin doll, but another part of me hopes it's just white because then there's no problems casting and Soom can finally catch up with all the old MDs lol

I think they were saying that, similarly to grey resin, if they don't offer seam sanding you can assume it's not "safe" to do. I remember some people saying that after sanding their vesuvia she wasn't as "pearly" anymore because of the matte sandpaper.

Also, soom seams range greatly. I've heard of MDs with seams that literally could cut you, to MDs with seems that are barely visible. It's really luck of the draw.

    17. When do you guys think Soom will post pictures?

I'm getting really anxious to see this boy.:sweat

    18. Moonwolf151- Thanks, I was wondering about Vesuvia (curious about actual info owners have out out about the different resins). And thanks for the seam info! :) My boys were sanded, so I didn't have a clue. Makes me want Sphaler to have pearly resin even more badly, seams or not!

I can't wait to see the whole set. >w< GAH.

    19. Huh. After Bygg and Beyla I was totally expecting a Heliot Redux.

I kind of like his face, but the hands don't seem to match the look; too heavy when he seems more delicate. I supposes that could be fixed by giving him a fiercer face-up. I've been waiting for them to make a dragon... I can't say I'm head over heels though (not like Bygg), so I guess it's OK.

Is it just me, or does it look like those ear fins are made to be removed?

    20. Most of Sooms MD's have been Super Gems. So yeah, most likely
      65 to 68cm.

      Yes the ears are removable.
I think Sphaler would make a lovely girl, and if he is their cream white
they can share my Cass body...yay!! I believe the pearliness we are
seeing is just the blushing they gave him.
