i hope it's just the lighting but his face looks rather unbalanced. His cheeks look lopsided. It may just be the shadow on the right side makes it look thinner.

The thing I see him having in common with Cass isn't actually a facial resemblance; it's a measure of expressiveness instead, and that's something a bit more abstract. Cass has this phenomenal look, like she's staring off into the future somewhere far away, seeing some other world entirely. In the end, it's what I absolutely adore about her face. Sphaler, especially in the teaser pic that is up now, has a similar expressive quality, though the expression isn't the same. It's caught between 'I know a secret' and the look of someone who has seen a heck of a lot, and is hard to rouse to anger. It's wonderfully inscrutible.

Both, I think, are absolutely ideal for sculpts intended to be a deity, and convey that sense of being a bit 'beyond' the human in a truly beautiful way simply because it doesn't hammer you over the head with a mallet with flash or a 'grovel and tremble mere mortals, I'm bigger than you!' expression. I like this a lot, especially if they are still going to make a 'human version only' option available for the sculpt, because it means that even without the fantasy parts, there is a subtle sense about the doll that remains that suggests something beyond the everyday that isn't just extra bits and pieces, no matter how amazingly cool those bits and pieces may be.

 

QFE. Definitely for Sphaler, anyhow, Cass just seems to look a little more...worried, to me. But it's not the same sort of feeling I get from Heliot at all, which is a confidence bordering on arrogance, or the others that share his sort of facial styling.

I'd agree with you, maybe this idea comes in mind as for 3 time the tiny reveled before the time what expect form the MD SG, as form Chrom, Cass and Cuprit.....

 

Me the nightowl wants to stay up SO bad, but I went to bed last night at 4:30am, got up at 9:30am and have been up ever since. I think I'm ready to pass out! *flail* I knew I should have hit Starbucks! Why did I plan to go to bed early on release night?

I really love how a few people are getting the same vibe from him. Its very subtle I think, not so much "in your face" attitude. This dude is quietly plotting something and he knows we know he's all that. XD He'd make a lovely winter/ice demon too with the coloring...

Anyone know if we can use the custom faceup option for MD's? >.>

 

No , soom has repeatably said they will not alter MD faceups at all.

 

i'd relized just now that in Italy it's 4,40 i the morning..too late..i'll need to go to sleep....XD

 

He's quite lovely so far...another dangerous temptation.

As far as I know the monthlies can't have custom faceups...the special faceups are part of the package. However, there was enough of a demand with Io that Soom agreed to paint some without the red line...

No, he's pretty white in the first preview pic (which can still be seen on page 15 of this thread). His hands are white that fade into grey (pretty cool, IMHO).

And as Botflybaby pointed out before, at no point did SOOM ever say the big guys have to follow suit from the babies. The fact that Sphaler isn't a unicorn like Bygg and Beyla is the first sign that he's not going to be like them - so far the only thing he does have in common with them is that he's a mythological creature.

But I could be wrong. Who knows? We'll find out soon though!

 

I plan on staying up another hour and a half, so hopefully I'll catch him, sleep on it, and decide in the morning about whether I buy him, and with what options.^^

To anyone who got a MD with blushing but no sanding...does it still look good? Or do you have to sand seams to get the blushing? Never got blushing so...yeah. XD

 

Thanks Muterari! Ah now I do remember Soom changing the faceup for Io because mine came without the red line. Hm maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask for fleshier lips lol. I never ask them anything when I buy my dolls (I try not to trouble them) so something so small maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Euclase I ordered with blushing, and he couldn't be sanded -- I actually ordered it for him and they refunded me since it couldn't be done. He looks fine, his seams aren't too bad. I've had dolls come with worse seams than he did, though, so I'd honestly say that if you're going to shell out for blushing -- which isn't cheap! -- sanding is a good option to add in there. It's a bit 'in for a penny, in for a pound', but the blushing can make the seams more notable even when they are slight. If you despise seams, I'd say go for the sanding. If you generally don't mind them, it may not matter.

 

if seams bother you definitely get the sanding. alot of people (including myself) with the later soom MDs have found some really chunky seams. im pretty sure you can get blushing without sanding but IMO if you want blushing you might as well get the seam sanding because you could get a few bad seams and want to sand him yourself and that would be a waste of money on the blushing.
