Soom Monthly (Zodiac) Doll Speculation thread '08 Part 2

Oct 30, 2008

    1. I've been holding out for Capricorn. I have a feeling that no matter what it is, she/he will be mine since it's my sign and the last one in the series.

I'd love for Soom to continue with fantastic fantasy dolls in 2009, the Zodiac idea sounds very interesting and the twisted fairy tales one sounds open to a lot of creativity.

    2. i really like that store thing.

i like vensuvia and euclase more that i have seen those pictures.

    3. If a Coyote doll happens, I'm pretty sure I will have to buy it, no matter what it looks like. Coyotes (the animal) are one of my favorite things in the world, and Coyote (the trickster) is one of my favorite god/myth/characters as well.

    4. I would love if they did a myth/gods type of thing, either from 1 culture, or a couple.

    5. Oo! Can anyone else see a Greek Hermes? With winged ears and wing shoes? And we've already done a bird from Egypt, so how about Anubis?

And I think we all would like to at least see what a Soom Gargoyle looks like...

    6. I would love if they did Monthly Dolls based on Norse mythology :)

    7. Any mythology would be really cool. I think that mythological creatures would be even cooler. Gorgon, Manticore, Kraken, Harpy, etc., it's a long list of things they could do there. :D

    8. I would kill things to see a Soom Gargoyle. Seriously. I think they'd do such a good job with it. Their version of a werewolf would be awesome, as well.

And though it's not very plausible, a great literature theme would be sweet, too. Basing the design of the dolls even just in the time frame of the great books... x3 Jekyll and Hyde was mentioned earlier... stuff like the Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, Treasure Island, Don Quixote, Les Miserables... and mythology has been a popular wish, so things like The Odyssey and Beowulf too. =33

And finally, I think it would be awesome if they swung a bit more into the science fiction genre this time around, going along with the designs of Bix and the Cyborg Sabik, as I loved their work on those two. ^___^

    9. I was always surprized that Soom abandoned their Mecha Angel storyline. I mean, they started an amazing comic-book style webpage for the MA's and everything.... then never pursued the story in physical sculpts. Maybe they're going back to that for next year? I can't say I'd be champing at the bit for every new doll like I have been for the current MDs, but I would be very happy for Soom that they were fulfilling their original passions.

OMG great literature MDs would kill me. T^T A Count of Monte Cristo???????? That's been pretty much my favourite book since I was ten. *L*

And they can't do mythological dolls, that's MY thing. *L*

    10. Yeah, I've been surprised that they haven't done much else with the Mecha Angel setting that they arranged... It seemed like a pretty cool setup they had going on, but... I wonder if they'll go back to it. From when I was last on the MA site, it didn't seem as though it had been updated too terribly recently... It would be cool to see what else they would do with them. ^^

xP And I think a huge amount of us would be so dead if they decided to do Mythological dolls. Oh, what I'd do for a Fenrir or Tyr. x3

    11. maybe for next year they'll continue their mecha angel story instead of doing the MDs? Its gotta be ALOT of work to produce and put together a whole new doll every month, maybe they want a break and might make it every 2-3 months?

noo iiddeaaaa. so much possibility with soom..

    12. Maybe instead of new dolls every month, they might release a different fullset every month for a doll they already have. Like one month the release a fullset Sabik, then perhaps later in the year release a second Sabik Fullset with a competely different look.

I really can't wait! You can bet the speculations thread will EXPLODE as soon as the first Post-Zodiac doll is released. ;)

    13. i'm curious what the capricorne doll will be, as it's my sign also, but i won't have funds to buy it, all savings this year are going towards a porcelain doll that is offtopic here.
but i'm curious after all this time to see soom's capricorne, and i hope i won't like it ;)

    14. Oh, wow, a Greek Hermes would be wonderful! There are so many exciting options.

    15. Hermes.... with WINGED-LEG part!!! OMG I would DIE!! :D:D:D

    16. This. I could totally see them continuing with their other-worldly creatures with this theme!

I don't think the Mecha Angels were moving fast enough...

    17. Hmm, so Soom has fiiinally started to release wigs and clothing again :3 they haven't done that since around the time Beryl came out, maybe this is a sign that they will go back to using creatively modified standard molds for the MDs rather than sculpting a new doll every month?

More MA stuff? That would be very cool to see, if they were anything like the beautiful and creative Cyborg Sabik and merman-Vega, and that Deneb too, though she scares me a little ^^; ...of course, since Mecha Angel size scares off a lot of people, they wouldn't be as popular as the Zodiac dolls, in terms of amount sold :/

I don't think it is certain that they will do another full year of a single, unified theme (one that leaves a lot of room, though, like "fantasy" or "mythology", is a probable choice if they do choose to do so) ...or if they do, if they will keep releasing new headmolds (although new option parts/variations are pretty likely ><). But some of the more out-there ideas on this thread for year themes are very interesting! Great literature BJDs? XDDD Really? That would be interesting to see...

    18. I think what hurt the MA monthlies most was that they were fullset only from what I recall of them, to be honest. I've seen plenty of people not going for the full 'OMG WHAT DID I JUST SPEND?!' amounts the fullsets can get up to. Heck, done the same myself. It can be a little easier on the bank account when you can pick and choose which items to splurge on.

    19. That, and a lot of people were/are intimidated by the size of them. 80cm is a lot bigger than most of the dolls already in our collections, and people who like their doll crew to "fit together" might be put off by the size difference (I know I am).

      If they do a dragon-inspired MD, I'm screwed. *_*

    20. Agree on the size issue putting people off the Mecha Angels. A lot of people simply don't want an 80 cm doll, it's "too big". I have a few that size but I don't really care if my dolls all look consistently sized or if they can trade clothes with each other, whereas for a lot of people that's a very important point.
