It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 13

Jan 4, 2022

    1. Check the measurements of the Breccia's wrist joint to that of the new male body. Depending on the diameter of the wrist ball and the wrist socket of the two bodies, the female hands may not fit well into the male arm socket. Usually the female hands are smaller than the male hands.

I have a Vesuvia and Euclase but both are older dolls (the Euclase was from the first release) so I can't even test them out for you to see if the fit would be good/reasonable.

    2. I think they'll probably fit, but not well, so they might just sit there and not be posable. I put hands from the new boy body on my old version Sard, and the new hands' ball joint is definitely bigger than the old hands, but it still fits (barely). I would assume the girl hands are even smaller than the old male hands, so it'll be iffy. Maybe if you did some hot glue sueding inside the wrist socket you make them compatible.

    3. That is a far point, Iron, and it took a little searching (all the charts!). You are right though, the male wrists are indeed bigger. Not by much, but I feel like it would be just enough not to fit. I like the suggestion of adding sueding, overlordu, to work on the fit. It's either that, or search out long, thin fingers with claws.

This is obviously far off, in the future, for plans. I just love Breccia's fox hands, and they make me think of my dream daiyoukai build... ;P My elegant demon boy is merciless.

    4. I feel you on the desire for a certain look for a certain character @NetherFox . Qayin has been difficult to get complete. I've had his head (BiDoll CS) for 5 years. Finding him a body.... He needs to have hooved feet. I'd originally wanted him to be 60-62cm and on the slender side but he also needs a minimum 10cm neck (10.5cm would be ideal), which doesn't seem to exist without modding *sigh*. I originally planned to put him on an RS Mu body with a thicker neck mod but as the years dragged on (thanks, pandemic) I came to realize that the Mu body wouldn't work for him in a way I just can't put my finger on. So the hunt begins anew.

I've decided to completely re-shell him and his originally intended head sculpt will eventually become someone else because I still love it. I'm willing to give a bit on height (making him taller but capping out at 65cm) and a bit more muscled than I'd originally thought in order to hopefully broaden the field. The hooves though are not negotiable and that's proving to be my biggest sticking point since so few companies make hooved boys that aren't limited. The new limited unicorn boy from Luts is in the running although he looks younger as they've styled him than I'd like. But a change in the face-up could fix that.

    5. I'm sure the feeling is pretty common in this hobby. Trying to find the one perfect sculpt/body/all the things! for a character, or even just an overall look.

I've been pretty out of the loop, and back and forth a lot. I have a girl, and I've decided I want a boy as my second doll. I love making clothing, and one of each would be fun. The designing and searching is frustrating though...

Also, out to everyone here, was Garam popular? Kami, I wish I was in the right state of brain in 2017 when he got released. I've already asked Soom if they plan to run him again... Nothing yet, but I'm hopeful. I'm SOOMed over him... The pale violet is gorgeous, and the face is soft enough what for what I'm planning...

Any Garam photos/spam? I've been combing the gallery, but not much came up.

    6. I've seen at least a Garam head in the MP in the not-so-distant past. I think I saw a full doll, too, but I could be remembering that wrong.

The thing that can make this hobby aggravating/frustrating is when you find a photo of a doll and you're like, "OMG! He's perfect! Who do I throw my money at to get him?" and then you find out that he was released several years ago, was limited, and nobody who bought him seems inclined to part with him. Or the company that made him no longer exists so re-release is impossible and he rarely comes up 2nd hand. Or you fall in love with a sculpt (limited, of course) and there's no way you could legally come up with the cash necessary to buy him.

All that being said, I have gotten all but one of my Soom boys via the 2nd hand market so I suppose I can't really complain all that hard. The only one I bought direct from Soom was my ID51 Gluino Endless Illusion, which was a special Xmas kit deal in grey skin. I'm still a little bit salty though that Soom didn't provide a CoA for him (they said they didn't send CoA's with the kits *grumbles*). Previously loved dolls I have are a Vesuvia Poison Kiss (FCE), Euclase The Last Judgement, Auber Storm Sprite, Boehem Smoke Sprite, ID51 London The Moor, ID51 London Steam Engine Rider and ID51 Hyperon The Forgotten Kingdom.

    7. Unfortunately I can't quite check marketplace yet... :sigh I had full access a while ago, but I've been too quiet in the following years, that I lost it. I'm trying to make my way back in, since my eventual goal is to sell and trade clothing.

Yep! That's where I'm at, right there! Falling in love, but it practically doesn't exist at the moment. I'll definitely been waiting on baited breathe if Garam gets rereleased... Or go on a magical adventure to find a second hand one.

Currently, I have my one SOOM girl, Breccia FCE, from 2012, I believe. I will someday own a few more girls, but I know I want my next one to be a boy. :)

    8. If you're patient and the doll you want isn't some incredibly rare release (like LE3 or something), the chances are decent you'll eventually find what you seek. One of my grails was an Impl Miguel The Demon Hunter (LE100) and he needed to be in grey resin. it took 7 years from the time of his release but I finally managed to find him and bring him home. Funny enough, my other grail, Unidoll Ark in WS (and the husband to the the other grail) popped up about 3 weeks after I bought the Impl. The Ark was about a 7 year hunt, too, and I ended up with both of them within a month of each other.

I'm currently trying to see if a Soom boy I'd like is still available 2nd hand. If yes, he'll be my Xmas present to me.

    9. I feel this in my soul. My first big grails were Soom Chrom in a tan skin tone with all his fantasy parts. He was only released in bronze at the FCE in 2011 I think and back then I couldn’t justify his cost as a new collector… but I did ge this on layaway secondhand back in 2014. Unfortunately I absolutely hated his body, and it took me until 2021 to upgrade his body to something more aesthetic and functional. Now Liam is a hybrid, but still with his fantasy parts. One day I’ll be brave enough to mod the knee sockets on the thighs to make him fit together properly. Currently his pants hide the bad knees XD

My other huge grail was a Soom Heliot unicorn version. Color wasn’t as important to me, but I couldn’t justify him without having a character for him, since he would have been a big expense secondhand, and I already knew I’d hate the body (those darn cup elbows) so that would have needed another upgrade too… fortunately Soom released him this past year and I jumped in him as the 2016 body is way better looking, and better engineered than the 2011 and 2012 versions. Entertainingly enough, he lost his body shortly after arrival to another head as DV came out with an awesome hoofed tall boy body that was an even better fit for Jamil. So now my Heliot (Jamil) is resigned to the spare parts drawer until his new body arrives. His current body has been claimed by a Kana Doll Lucien head that I made into Jamil’s lover Celicon. Celicon was originally supposed to be a Heliot as an SD (his msd version is a Soom Shale), but neither my wife (who is Celicon’s creator) nor I wanted them to have the same head sculpt and I got the Heliot first so he got to become Jamil.

    10. A friend of mine has a Sard (with fantasy parts) and I adore that sculpt. I also love the Heliot. Another friend has a Sphaler and Ender (no fantasy parts for them except the Sphaler has the long-nail hands). I crushed pretty hard on the Vega waaaay back in the day, too, but back then I was new to the hobby and in a different financial place and there was absolutely no way I could justify shelling out that kind of cash on a doll even if I did a layaway. I liked the weirdness of the Bix as well (you almost never see him 2nd hand) which should've been a big sign to me way back then that the weird dolls would be the ones that smash my buttons the hardest.

The Soom boy I'm trying to find out if he's still available would be a re-shelling of Qayin who was supposed to be a BiDoll CS head. I've been trying to get a body for him for like 5 years but nothing within the parameters I need seems to exist to go with that head. I (eventually) know when to admit defeat. The BiDoll head will become someone else with less particular body requirements and that's fine.

    11. Just going to drop a greeting, since this thread has been super quiet (I've been lurking...)

Also, SOOM has released a new Arkose!
Arkose - Wave of Samsara - The Gem

He's gorgeous in the gray, but I think I'm safe. Despite the fact that I love those giant death talons, and sharp claw hands lol.

Also... what the heck is he wearing?? Those leg warmers... XD A pastel delight!

    12. I saw him, too. He's gorgeous in the pastels. I am safe simply because I have no dolly money *sigh*.

    13. He is delightful!! Big bone wings on a pastel man is giving me some kind of fey vibes!

if he was in purple, I’d be wavering hard, but I’m telling myself I’m just going to be excited to see other people receiving him!

    14. I’m in love with his romantic head :D

    15. I was very tempted by him but I am not sure who I would turn him into. The outfit is...special.

    16. Agreed. I'm planning on getting a boy as my next doll, but I have a character in mind. And as much as I am simping for that gray resin and romantic face, it doesn't suite the youkai boy in my brain.

Also... the outfit... right? Definitely feeling the fae vibes tho, Chameleon. ;)

    17. @NetherFox I'm trying to not get more dolls but I have some clothing sets that either need to be claimed by a General Lafayette doll (not sure which sculpt to use for him) or a Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death (again, not sure who to use). At first I thought "oooh maybe Arkose" but the resin colors are very limiting - I don't want grey and I am not really into the new peony white. (I prefer their old cream white.) It is very fae! Just not my type haha

    18. My blue Nephelin arrived last week :D It's going to be a while until she's done and finished as I decided to wait with designing the concept for her until her arrival, but I was playing around with different eyes and wigs just to have some idea what direction to go and I really like how she looks in black irises eyes (a bit scary too!) so I think she will be some dark fae of sorts, just so she can have black eyes. Not sure how I will use the extra sleeping head yet...

I don't know if the powder blue used for her skin is any different than when it was used in other soom dolls in the past, but it's nice soft, a bit greyish blue (the company pics were quite accurate on the colour)
