Sooms new Elemental Babies! (Speculation)

I really wonder if Soom are EVER going to give me some EXTREME dolls?
I mean, I love this little birdie and will be bringing home for sure, but I'm really hoping for something with MUCH darker makeup down the line.
Again we have a VERY netural looking faceup (much like Glot's I imagine) and I find her's WAY too pale.
But because of the way I approach this hobby, I'm always in it for the fullsets. So if Soom don't release and extreme doll, I won't be getting one! ::laughs::
I just think it's something they could do SO WELL!

 

Boo... I can't see the MD Story that was on the old site anymore. Does anyone have a screenshot/list of that chart that listed the gods down to the tinies?

Are the bird tinies the Airpair? Which means there's one set, the earths, left after? I'd love to buy another soom tiny after my Bygg comes, but I just don't really love these birdies. The claws are too pudgy

 

Yep, that's right, these are air, and earth is next in two months.

The claws are quite pudgy... but when I saw owner pics of the pudgy paws on Hati and Skoll, I realized that, non-default, I actually liked those, so I'm taking the chance on the pudgy claws, myself.

 

So, the earth ones are next, but does anyone know what will come after that? Did SOOM give any hint?
What would be possible candidates (speaking of a type like horsies or birdies) for the earth ones?

 

The Soom look is usually pretty natural. You can see it in its ultimate expression on the Saiph cluster, I think. I think Helliot's eyes are a unusual for them. Their dolls have this muted elegance going on. I think it would really out of character for them to put dramatic face-ups on Tinies though. They see them as little kids, I think.

But wild colours? I really wouldn't put it past Soom. Here's how I really think it would go. They'd release one Limited risky, really bold doll, say, all black resin doll with grey blushing and silver eyes, say (knowing Soom you can add your pick of horns, talons, wings, or other unimaginable stuff). The one thing I worry about when they hit up these threads is that they'll become too timid to take these big risks, and make these innovations.

Soom can probably be considered the Mother of the fantasy doll market. They're way beyond vampires (though, trust me, I love vampires). I feel like they have a direct positive impact on dollmaking that's rippling through dollmakers like Angelheim and Peapod (below, respectively) making fantasy doll and/or bits. I hope they always take risks and reach for new artistic expressions (for better or worse, just as they're trying to do with Idealian).

Oh I really can't complain about the way Soom do their Super Gem MDs!
They come up with some FABULOUS faceups there!
Just using the ones on shipping (still!) as examples, Heliot had a fabulous faceup as did Cuprit (when it was done right).. Chrom's faceup was really nice, not extreme just dark, and Sphaler's was up my alley too.

It's just the TINIES. They almost always get the EXACT same faceup with little variation. The only ones so far I've really felt got something different were Eliv and Iv (I'm of course bringing and Eliv home! ::laughs:.
I do understand it's because they see the tinies as little kids, which I just DON'T. It's always been the same for me though. I don't see MSDs as kids either, but at least some companies agree with me and we get mature bodied MSDs.
But I'm also not saying I want them to have huge crazy extreme faceups. Just, each faceup should be different and focus on different colours.
Like Eliv and Iv's faceups, they weren't extreme by any means, but they both had quite dark eyeliner and actual COLOURED eyeshadow in pinks and blues.

So I think, rather than say I want Soom to do more extreme faceups, I just want to see them use MORE COLOUR.
I mean, there's minimal risk in doing a more funky faceup too as people who hate it just won't get it. They might even find more people get their faceups because they'll become more interesting!

Personally I'm hoping Angelheim release some females one day!
MSD sized mature bodied fantasy females YES PLEASE! xD

 

Earth is the end of this MD cycle, so no, we have no idea what comes next! ^_^ We'll probably find out, like we did with this one, when they release the first of the next cycle after the big Earth God comes out in three months.

 

Thanks, vicemage. I didn't know it was the end of the cycle (noobie ). So, for Earth there is Amber and an unknown Earth God? Pheee, that make so much possibilities for the Earth Tinies. I love surprises, but I'm so curious !

 

Speculation is a mini-Amber as Amber is one of the two dolls from last year who's under the "earth" heading (along with Io, I believe)... Amber sold very well, which is why there's so much speculation that the earth tinies will look like her (but on the other hand, there's also been two hooved pairs already, so that fuels speculation that they might be modelled more on Io instead).

And the Earth god might follow what the tinies are (which may or may not be based on the current ones in the pair), or might go in a totally different direction. They're not making it easy to guess.

 

I REALLY hope it's a mini-amber. Those ears on a tiny would be absolutely adorable ; 3;

I think they could make it hooved, but different than the last two. Maybe they'd make her a little taller and have swapable torsos like big amber, with a different style calf than the other tinies. (I really, really hope so :'D)

edit;; Thank you so much for that link! Eventually I'll have to buy some of those YoSD hooves, they're great~

 

In the end, it may come down to the fact Amber was popular in the west, while Io was apparently very popular in Japan. They may go with a cat-theme for him, hoping to win over that audience, or they may go hooved again because, well, hooves sell. But this week, I feel like having two of the last three tiny sets be hooved might be a little much for Soom, so we'll have to see! I know it won't happen, but I'd love to see a kitty and sheep sort of theme, and have the tinies be really different from one another.

But if I look at the history (sorry guys, you know I love doing this!):
Glot/Glati = same as Sard/Beryl
Hati/Skoll = new theme
Iv/Eliv = new theme
Bygg/Beyla = same as Onyx/Heliot
Alk/Yrie = new theme

By this measure, the Earth tinies should be the same, if we're playing the odds, that would make half of them based on the larger dolls, and half of them new concepts. Of course, if you happen to think that Alk and Yrie are a complete mash-up of Topaz and Euclase, then they could be anything at all.

I would die if it is a sheep theme ! That would be the cutest thing. I LOVE sheeps (and I'm so disappointed by the Lati sheeps...). Please SOOM .

 

It sounds like bold would have been a better choice of words for me, rather than extreme. You're right about the funky, bright/bold face-up thing though, Midnite. Dream of Doll will give you a range you can get for your doll's face, for instance. It would be kind of cool if they put a bold and a soft faceup as a sales option.

Re. Angelheim, I'd love to see a Sphinx, Rusulka, or Phoenix there too. It would be interesting to see their take on a Lamia!

Yeah BOLD. And just.. MORE OF IT.
The way I feel about Glot's faceup for example, they have a GREAT idea here.. but it feels unfinished. You see the hint of an idea, the potential for so much more, but it feels like they stopped half way - all these gold hues that they could have done so much with!
I mean personally, even Eliv and Iv's faceup I'd have done the same thing, just given it MORE.. brighter colours, making more of a statement.
Neutral faceups are great for basic dolls, it makes sense to have something that everyone can appreciate. But the point of limiteds (well, one of them) is to allow companies to be creative and that's where you expect to see the more interesting faceups.

So yes. BOLD faceups please soom with LOTS of colour for your tinies! Thank you! xDD

 

I know that is probably not your thing, but if they keep doing these neutrals perhaps its not a bad idea to just add to the faceup? It's easier to just add colours on top to make them as dark as you like. I have a feeling Soom really wouldn't be doing their faceup much darker than these on the tinies. They haven't so far really.

I liked Bygg's faceup (prolly cuz he is grey and the colour scheme had to be different) but Alk and Yrie are really kinda... meh for me. At least Iv had some blue. XD

 

Yes! They always do the GS dolls really well!
The pink blushing always looks so unnatural and fabulous, and the faceups too are always stronger cause they have to be to match the grey. I was really pleased with that faceup and can't wait til my girl arrives!

As for touching faceups up, I have considered it I'll admit, but ended up thinking it was a bad idea as I'm such a collector and don't want to ruin the default!
Though seriously, Glot's faceup for example could be made so much better by just adding in more colour to the default, definitely!
Can't really tell about the birdie faceups yet as it's never easy to tell in the promo pics, but I'll get a really close up look in person next month.
Looking at the colour of the blushing though, I'm guessing it's all browns.
