Sooms new Elemental Babies! (Speculation)

Feb 27, 2009

    1. So, teasers for the second MD tiny release are up. I'm a bit disappointed that Grit & Syen are not to my taste, but that's not Soom's fault. They have done great work this time!!
Therefore I ring the bell for the next round of speculation on MD tinies ^^. I copied this list from one of Shara's postings:

      Water - small negative, water
Wood - small positive, green vegetation
      Earth - bright positive, soil
      Fire - big positive, sun
(Monzo & Grit/Syen are Metal - big negative, iron, rock)
(Brecchia and Shonki&Appini were Aether - last negative, moon)

4 elements are left. Speculation time?!

    2. Since they did the Last negative first and then the big negative maybe the small negative next? I hope so I love my Iv and want another watery creature. But then again putting it off again might be good so I can save up more money

    3. I have to say that I'm mostly interested in these two elements:

Wood - small positive, green vegetation
      Earth - bright positive, soil

I would totally be over the moon if Soom releases sheeps or bunnies for the earth element! Some other companies have done that before, but I'd be so curious what Soom would create for these 2.
Wood is really hard to imagine. I mean there could be a dryad (LOVE!), but I think they will continue with the animal theme, so... hm, SQUIRRELS!?

    4. Please not squirrels. There are millions of them over here where I live and they drive me insane, one actually ran out infront of my bike and it was staring at me as I was approaching too.

I'd really like a dryad type of doll too but the animal theme is more likely... a bear?

Sheep I would adore. Maybe cows? Or earth something that burrows would work more on the burrowing side.

    5. But they look so cute :aangel:.

... that burrows, hm maybe a badger?

    6. Water - turtles? crabs/lobsters? seahorses?
      Wood - bunnies? squirrels?
      Earth - (starnosed)moles?
      Fire - phoenixes? kirins?

    7. I would kill for sea horses and phoenixes. Maybe we'll get a dragon for the water since that the element they're associated in most Eastern cultures.

I'd love to see something really cute like a panda  but I haven't the slightest where that would fit in.

    8. Fire - big positive, sun = GIVE ME A GOLD RESIN SUN DOLL. Please.. pretty please? xD
Wood - small positive, green vegetation = Sparkly green resin tree. With branchy legs and arms. And sparkly eyes (when do soom not do sparkly eyes mind you? xD)

These are the major two I have a really strong idea for. I think I'd just be THRILLED with either of these, but I'm sure Soom won't do this at all. It's just too creative and out there!

      Then uh...

      Water - small negative, water
= I'd really like to see some blue resin. They did a fabulous job with water last year. Eliv and Iv were amazingly done, so I'd like to see them be creative with the element again, adding fantasy resin to the mix.

I have no idea for Earth.. at all.. xD

    9. I would love, love, LOVE a sun and a tree tiny. But I do suspect that SOOM is going to continue with their animal theme *sigh*
I agree about Eliv and Iv, they were absolutely stunning! Those are some of the best fantasy parts we've seen so far! They might actually go for lobster/crabs for water, I hope! Lots of people were hoping for a Bix tiny..

    10. What about Fire = scorpions? So many people were asking for scorpions last year :-)

    11. Oh yes! That would be wonderful! They could make it sparkly gold resin, instead of sparkly purple, and maybe a gold transparent shimmery stinger! Oooh.. Now my creative juices are flowing!

    12. Earth = Earthworm! C'mon guys, imagine the segments, and no arms or legs...they'd ship out really quickly!

Okay, okay, sorry about that. The problem with hoping for radical originality from Soom is that they're a business, and they aren't always rewarded for risk and change. Vesuvia didn't sell well, and the fact that we're all sorry about that in hindsight doesn't necessarily help. Same with Iv and Eliv. They didn't sell nearly as well as Bygg/Beyla or Afi/Ai, let alone Glot/Glati. Soom gives us hooves because they keep selling.

Which means I admire them last month, and likely this month, because I doubt we're going to see hooves this month, so good on Soom for that!

      .hlp

    13. That's true. The pawed tinies didn't sell well in the beginning, but they did them again last month. Who knows? Maybe that means that they might still have the stones to make our little water elementals into little crabs or lobsters (Bix) or our fire elementals into little scorpions (Vesuvia). I really, really do hope so. But you know they will try to keep everything aesthetically appealing to an as large as possible audience. That's why I think that they might not go for scorpions, lobsters, crabs etc. They've been trying to show the animal-like features in the faces of the Teenie Gems. How would you do that with something that's not mammalian (say a spider) AND have it appeal to such a wide audience?

I bet it would be so cool to sit there with the team and brainstorm on that!

    14. The only thing about Soom doing scorpions or lobsters is that they have to make a similar big doll also. But they already used the scorpion/lobster theme last year. So I doubt that we see something like that this year.

So far, I was not happy with the tinies faces this year. I mean it's great of Soom that they are trying to show animal features in their faces, but neither Shonki/Appini or Grit/Syen were to my liking *sigh*. I am wondering if I will like any of the tinies this year enough to buy one of them.

    15. Hmm. You have a point with the big dolls there.

I didn't like Shonki&Appini's faces either. I do sort of like Grit's face, but Syen reminds me, personally, too much of FL Marcia. I'm getting Grit because he suits my OC. I'm interested to see how their other animal-ish faces turn out, but I suspect I'll be quite safe from SOOM this year! Now if they bring their old sculptor (Marimo) back, I'm in big trouble...

    16. Wow, you are right. The head sculptor for all the last years tinies was Marimo (except for Alk/Yrie). And the new one is Jung Hye Eun, who did Alk/Yrie last year. Hm, I almost loved all last years faces, but not Alk/Yries, ...oh, that makes me fear that I won't like any of the new tinies this year. That would make me sad!

    17. Oh that's interesting.... because Alk/Yrie was my FAVOURITE sculpt from last year.
You could totally tell it was a different sculptor too, now I think about it.
Oddly though, I didn't really like the Shonki/Appini sculpt much, though I feel I may like the new batty gargoyle thingies, but only in grey skin! (might be the facup on the WS making it weird though)

    18. babyelf: Wow. And I never noticed that Alk/Yrie wasn't one of Marimo's! Though in hindsight, the mouth is a dead giveaway..
I do like Alk/Yrie's sculpt, a lot, but it was the one I had the most problems taking to. It depends highly on the face-up for me. She can look very haughty in a lot of pictures, but when the face-up and angle of the picture is right, she can look so sensitive and frail..
Shonki&Appini were definitely not my thing, though. I do like these gargoyles. Jung Hye Eun does all the sculpts for the large MDs, except IO. IO was another one of Marimo's.
So far I'm 50/50 on Jung Hye Eun's tinies. But Marimo always captures me.. If Marimo is gone forever, I will be relieved, and my money problems will be minimal, but I would be very saddened to never see any new sculpts by him/her.

    19. I think it's that eyelid line on the WS one. If they'd have blushed it it might have looked a little better, I think.
midnite, I think I remember that you said earlier (either in this thread or another one) that SOOM recently changed their staff? Would you be willing and able to tell me more about that?

    20. Well, I got Shonki, and I am slowly falling for that little doll as time passes, it's quite a different experience from the angsty obsessiveness I find 'being Soomed' to be. :doh In a lot of ways, more preferable as well, LOL!

I'm hopeful to see a couple of dolls this year I love, but last year only Chalco really captured my eye on the SG, it was the Year of the Tiny for me for absolute sure. This year remains to be seen, I'll just have to wait and see, but I may not be Soomed all year at this rate. A little objectivity may be a good thing for my wallet. ;)
