SoulDoll Soul-Double Discussion

Jun 15, 2010

    1. I love the 3-part torso of the old body. The newer body may be more "manly" or aesthetically appealing to some, but it seems like the older body is more friendly in the posability area. I have no problem with moving the head at various angels. The only part that I think I have difficulty working with is the chest area. It's a bit stiff, but it's not a part that I'm too concerned with and I don't think it would really effect anything too much. I'm still practicing with him and getting a feel for posing him and such, but overall, I'm pleased with the older body. My only complaint would be the knee joints. I'm not overly fond of their squareness, but I can live with them. If you really love your boy's head, I'd probably just sell the body and find one to your liking that fits with that head, if it's possible.

    2. Congrats on your Eliot Mithredath^^ he's a good looking guy! I am also a fan of the original double body, I love how lean it is. It is possible to photograph the engaged knee joints from above which reduces their 'clunkiness'. I also love the way this body sits with crossed legs. I restrung my boy which helped loosen up his chest & elbow joints, here's an old pic of my Killian kneeling: http://www.flickr.com/photos/whim_sy/5590513865/

imo the old body is very lean but muscular, with a younger, more stylized appeal...it has a great slouch :) The hands tend to the small size for a 63cm boy, but I think it fits in with his more stylized look. My Killian's head holds a pose at just about any angle on the older body. Hope this is helpful^^

Addit: A pic of his hands (the above ones were Soom jointed):

    3. I was on the verge of reshelling my beautiful Bailey... but it turns out that a change of wig was all I needed. :D Look!

    4. Is anyone here planning to order one of the 10 newly released dolls? I think I'm in love with Juhl. :aheartbea

    5. >A< JUHL! I'm thinking of getting him too, actually! I'm just worried a little about the lower lip, whether in the long term, I could accept it. And like a few others, I'm torn between the two bodies (old and new). Does anyone know where a comparision post or thread can be found? The poses, etc. There are bits of the old body I prefer, and bits of the new. Some parts I dislike, some parts I'm fine ><

    6. I love the new Rye girl, but I'd prefer that head on a Zenith body. There was earlier talk about a hybrid (male), but has anyone tried yet?
I have two Souldouble girls, little spam of them:

I have now four Souldoll dolls (I had five, just sold one away) so I guess I really like their work -and the bodies are amazing! :)

    7. Oh! Looking really good there! are the other two dolls of yours both males, or different sized females? Yes, I agree that souldoll does make beautiful sculpts! But their male bodies... >< (the NL kid looks good though, but that's the soulkid..)

    8. Ah... does anyone know how these dolls will work, proportionally, with a female Dreaming Doll elva? My first doll is an elva, and I love Rye, and may buy her some time in the next year, but I would like a better idea of how they would look together, and which body to buy, before starting to save up money for her.

    9. I decided to pop in this thread too, now that I have another souldoll double again. Used to own Gisele and while I loved the body and it's poseability, it just didn't fit the character anymore and I sold it (to caracal, heh). But now I own a sleeping Ize(modded) with the old body.

I love how the body looks and it stays so well in different poses~ I especially love the slouch you get with the middle joint.

    10. I've tried looking for the answer to this question but haven't come up with a solid answer. I'm looking at wig sizes - I'm planning on getting a Hye (I'm pretty sure she's a 7-8) and a Kanguk. From what I've seen, the boys could be 7-8 or 8-9, so I'm wondering if anyone knows for certain for him? I'm planning on getting most of my wigs from LeekeWorld, if that helps.

    11. Girls are most definitely 7-8", I'm not sure about all the boys, but Ize is 8-9". I'd guess the rest are too...

    12. My Yurr wears an 8-9, but his head is more like an 8.5. The 8-9 migidoll wig he's wearing is a little loose though. I may eventually buy a 7-8, and see if that fits better. Right now he's fine, and it stays pretty well. I may just add more lining or something, it's not a big deal really.

I also have dollzone jointed hands coming in. I dunno when my boys body will arrive, hopefully before Xmas! The hands are coming in from Italy, and will be blushed, so those may arrive after Christmas. The original owner had a souldoll Killian(?) and the match was almost perfect. (DZ NS and Souldoll NS)

Aatos I really like your Ize, and the blusing/freckles are real good! <3

    13. May i ask some questions?.. I'm attracted to Juhl, but from what i heard, Souldoll's Kids are not the same as the normal MSDs, and it's hard to find their clothes, so now i'm a bit waver about buying Juhl, can i ask if Souldoll's doubles are comparatively to other SD size i supposed?

    14. The double bodies are a little slimmer. SD13 clothes will fit BUT you have to compare measurements, just in case. Also, the body is said to be 61 cm, but I assume that doesn't include the head. With the head, believe it's 63cm? My boy hasn't come in yet though...but since I'm here I thought I would answer the question. These are the measurements I have for a male, Souldoll (new) Double jointed body.
      > Girth of neck : 11.5 cm
      > Girth of chest : 25 cm
      > Girth of waist : 19 cm
      > Girth of hips : 24.5 cm
      > Shoulder width(with arms) : 12.5 cm
      > Length of "from wrist to shoulder : 18 cm
      > Length of "from ankle to waist :36.5 cm
      > Foot length : 7.5 cm
      > Foot width : 3.2 cm

OH and about the wig, all I needed to do was sew in some elastic thread into the base at the back. It fixed the slip issue, no damage to the wig and no weird bulkiness either.

    15. I've just received a Souldoll Old Double boy body and I'm a little baffled about something. The elastic in his legs and torso seems so tight that he can barely move... his legs take some real bending and his torso joints won't move at all. I figured I'd restring the body and got his arms off okay, but the rest of the elastic is so tight that I can't pull on his feet in order to unhook them, and I don't want to pull too hard for fear of breaking him  does anyone here have any advice about what I could/should do?

    16. Nicole: Souldoll always sends their dolls strung ridiculously tight. In fact one time I had to restring that body with a friends help... we were foot to foot pulling with everything we had to get it back together. I had the same issue with my Soulkid boy as well...I was pulling the foot to unstring, him but it was so tight the S Hook snapped back into the leg hole (luckily nothing was broken). It's really a pain to deal with... if the tension is too much you might consider buying new string to restring him to a tension you're more comfortable with. If you can manage to get him unstrung and there is enough leftover elastic after the knot, I'd say try to undo the knot and retie it so that your elastic piece is longer.

From what I've researched, all Souldolls come this way. They are a good strong resin and I haven't heard any reports of that tension causing damage. It's just a bit harder to get the joints to move so you just gotta apply a bit more force to bend the torso joint. I've let my Double boy and Soulkid stay strung as they were and over time they've become easier to deal with as the elastic has worn down. They're rock solid bodies... it's just they're a bit TOO rock solid at the start of their lives. :XD:

    17. Hmm, in that case I think I might leave him for now and wait until he loosens up a bit. I'm not very strong (weakling over here ) so I had my mom play with him a bit and she's managed to get his torso joints moving. They're still really tight of course and I'm going to be struggling to move him for a while, but hopefully he'll give soon. He's also very creaky so I thought about sueding him to smooth out his movements, but logic tells me that'd only make his joints even tighter at the moment - am I right in thinking that? Sorry for all the questions, but my current BJD knowledge is limited to all sizes except SD (he's my first) :sweat Thank you for the help, Dybbuk!

    18. Nicole: I personally wouldn't suede him unless he's having trouble keeping a pose. Like the arms won't stay in position (etc), he'll be even more rock solid if you suede him. Souldoll's are just creaky BJD xDD It comes with the tightness. I find though that over time if you tend to play/handle your dolls a lot the tension does subside. Personally I really like that Souldoll does string them on the tighter side (though they could relax a bit xD) but I prefer them tightly strung than loosely strung. Souldoll's are posing champs, and pretty solid in my experience. It's always a bigger headache to have a floppy doll that has joints that collapse easily. Which Double boy did you get?

    19. That's what I thought... I have a YoSD who I sueded and it's made her joints much more smoother to move, if that makes sense, and a lot tighter. I've never experienced a floppy BJD but I think the closest I've come to it was a MNF I once owned. She was a great poser of course, but a little on the floppy side :sweat

I actually only got the body, mostly because of what I'd heard about it being good at posing and the way it looks. He's going to be a hybrid ;)

    20. I was just going to ask about the elastic...lol! It's nice to know that these boys can stand like a boss. My first bjd was a Soom YO-SD, he stood like a boss out of the box, and didn't need to be restrung. (Though I pulled him apart anyways to see how he worked)
He's a trooper, so I was hoping a Souldoll would be a boss too. lol

I am waiting on the new double jointed body (still) that I ordered in Sept, for a Souldoll Yurr head. :3
