1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Souldoll Souloid discussion part 1

Sep 15, 2011

    1. Souldoll doeshis sort of thing all the time, it is like any other company, they put out more than they can take in because the profit margin is tighter than they would like for this sort of business. Rest assured once they get everything sent out things will calm down, and dolls will be on release again, wait a bit and ask them, and they will probably start offering them again. I really assume this is why companies like Soom only do limited release for the most part, because the work load is already large enough with the limited time release, whereas Souldoll releases and releases, because when they are slow, they are truly slow, they don't always have this much business. I really think there are times when they make more off of doll clothing and props than dolls, some months, you may notice, the Souldoll boards around here aren't exactly bustling with people at any other time except holiday releases, I know, I am a Double owner, maybe soon to be a Kid owner since Randor has been calling me.

The Soulloids are a bit complicated to make, but I can see that they allow some imperfection so that it doesn't become too taxing a job for them. They only recently released them, and they have seemed to be fairly popular, so I doubt they will permanently stop making them. They really have only discontinued a few dolls over the past few years, and only one line has been discontinued ever as far as I know, so don't get in the rut where you are stuck believing they won't rerelease, because if you don't save your money, you will be unhappy that you missed out in the end.

    2. There are, and I hope some one form a doll company reads this, so many good ways of ensuring business at a time when the company wants it. Only one way is to hold an Event. Another could be to take a waiting list and then (re)release the doll when a viable amount of people have joined and the company has less other stuff to do. This would be very effective in re-releases; giving all those who missed out a chance at getting the doll. And if the waiting list just doesn't reach the minimum of participants needed to make a money making casting run, well then the doll company doesn't end up having to setup and make new mold for a doll-sculpt that doesn't sell enough castings to warrant making new molds for.

The BJD biz is already unique in that pretty much all dolls are pre-ordered right now. Why not as add waiting lists, or even interest lists for new proposed sculpts?

And why, why, why, do all doll companies have their big annual events at the jolly same time (Christmas)?! Basic economics should make clear that a customer can only spend their money once and with BJDs it usually means a limit of one doll over Christmas. Where as there are enough people who will be able to spend money on more than one doll a year if the expense is spread around the year.

Anyway, getting off my soapbox. I'm happy I knew nothing about stuff becoming unavailable with Souldoll (but hopefully all becoming re-available again soon) and got my Souloid ordered and paid for, <pfew!>

    3. So in other words, they are temporarily not doing Souloids cause they have to catch up with the orders coming in due to the event and they should come avaible again once they worked the load of. :)

    4. I've some great experiences with Alice's. Not for the Souloid yet, as I haven't received mine yet, but I do know Alice's produces a lot of the clothing in-house. Those that have 'KK' in the item number are in-house. So two of your chosen items.

You could ask Alice's if they can make them in the Souloid size, worst they can say is 'no', but my experience with Alice's is that they will try to give you what you want. They are always very nice in correspondence.

    5. 1/3 clothes will be way too big on a Souloid. I tried a pair of reasonably tight SD13-sized trousers on mine and they made him look like a clown. Although Souloids are taller and a bit broader than regular 1/4 sized dolls, they're still much skinnier and shorter than a 1/3. Your best bet would be asking them if they could customise the 1/4 size to the right measurements for a Souloid.

    6. Yes, I would also think getting 1/3 clothing will not work. Start with the 1/4th range and ask if they can custom create one like that.

BTW, I've just realized I've been thinking of my hopefully soon arriving Souloid as of a similar size as an Iplehouse JID male (which I do already own). Totally bogus, I realize, since I have not info that corroborates that assumption.
Can anyone tell me if the Soiloid male and the Iplehouse male JID are anywhere close in measurements?

(Crikey, I'm glad the Souloid doesn't need any shoes, or I'd have to start to worry about that too!!)

    7. Ok - thanks, I'll just keep up the search for longer 1/4th cloths, and maybe contact alice's about custom items

I bought a handmade pajama set made for JID 1/4 boys. Since it's pj's, it was forgiving. The pants are just barely long enough - right at the ankle, but the waist was fine (but it was also elastic). The chest area was very roomy, and appears that the shoulder's are much broader on the JID, but the sleeves were perfect - the right length exactly. I think if you were going to get a JID outfit that was meant to be baggy then it might work, but not a fitted outfit.

Appears that I don't have a pic that shows the pants, but here you can see the sleeves:

    8. Well, if the Souloid is less broad in the shoulders than the JID, then you definitely need to stick to the 1/4 range of clothing, as 1/3 tops are big on the JID already.

I can't wait for my Souloid to arrive, so I can make him some great tops & coats!
(Wouldn't dream of covering up his lower body!)

    9. Wow I wish I could get a sleeping Rachel! Maybe by the time they come out again I can afford her!

    10. So did anyone notice that Souldoll stealthily removed the "temporarily sold out" notice from their Souloid pages? Someone asked a question about the Souloids on Iraki's page and Souldoll replied, "We don't yet have any plan to restock Souloid body.
We will let you know through notice board email if there are any changes."

*Sigh* I was right about them probably discontinuing the Souloids either forever or for a very long time. My Ier wants a boy companion, waaah.

    11. I'm guessing they won't be avaible during their anniversary event (so this whole year) or only during a certain period of time as supposedly the Souloids are harder to make - especially metallic skin. Imagine if one bought a Souloid and then would win the 1 + 1 event and they'd have to make another one... ^^°

    12. Welp, I gave up on Souldoll releasing the Souloids again and got myself a secondhand Iraki! Here's a shot of Neon Venus and her new plaything, Progenitor:

    13. Can anyone verify that the upper bodies on the Souloids are the same as the upper bodies of the NL Soulkids? I honestly think they are the exact same parts, but someone else said that the parts were different.

    14. I'm curious about that too. I'd one day kinda like to have a Lidell head on my Ier's body, and if I can somehow splice a WS upper body onto the Souloid body so I can keep her in WS and not have to blush her tan that'd be awesome.

    15. I honestly think they are the exact same upper, but it'd be best to have a this confirmed. A Liddell Souloid would be awesome!

    16. I know the N.L. upper body will fit the souloid body. I tried it with my sandy brown Arina.

    17. Sorry it tooks so long, after my husband finish the repairs on my computer, we had problems with my external harddrive which has all my pictures. So here's a picture of Arina N.L. upper body on the souloid body, click here. It's a perfect fit.

    18. Yes, so it seems. But I have a feeling this isn't going to be the same size as the rest. The apperance screams Vito or bigger at least ^^° I do hope they'll return the MSD Souloids in the future... Thought I'm not in for hit until the end of the year ^^°
