Souldoll Souloid discussion part 1

Sep 15, 2011

    1. I have been looking at secondhand souloids for ages now, so I'm so happy to finally see them brought back. My only problem is the extent to which I am in love with Lavi Gold's outfit and the fact that I really don't know if I can swing it money wise. I've already missed out on one beautiful outfit this year that I just couldn't work out in terms of funds.

    2. Was it a new outfit from the company store? Do they not offer layaway for accessories? I have only done layaway fir a doll no wigs or clothes.

    3. It was the outfit that went with the doll I was ordering and while the company does do layaway, they're sadly only very short and financially I just couldn't make it work (they also only did layaways for orders including dolls). Unfortunately being based in Australia, dealers are less of an option for me as the shipping because significantly more expensive. Right now I'm just trying to work out if I can manage to order the Gold outfit, along with Lavi herself if I make use of the full six month layaway

(it would be easier if I didn't already have other layaways in progress, particularly since I've been regretting them lately, but at this point I've just got to follow through with them until they're done)

    4. They used to sell the Souloid boy body separately, with an option to add one of the Soulkid heads as an extra. I have a Shaun on a Souloid body from that period, and he's a perfect fit with no mods required. Obviously I can't speak of how good the Titka head specifically would look, but generally speaking Soulkid heads should be fine.

    5. Whew! Thank you, Selidor. You've made my heart happy (my wallet is now glowering angrily though). Your boy looks amazing. Is that a default face-up on him?

    6. @Iron_Dog You're welcome, and yes, he has the default faceup.

    7. Back when these were first release I tried to join the soulkids thread, I reasoned that if you could put a soulkid head on a souloid like souldoll was offering, then the torso piece must be the same. I was unfortunately met with much opposition. Some members argued that the posted neck sizes were different so I didn't belong in thier thread. Anyway I posted a long time ago, asking if anyone has both a soulkid and souloid that they could put side by side, but alas I guess these dolls appeal to different folks.

I honestly believe that since souldoll had the option of ordering various soulkid heads for the souloid body at one time then the upper chest piece must be exactly the same, but I have no proof.

    8. @skyealloway I don't have both to compare, but from the photos of the NL boy body I think they're the same. The only difference between that and my Souloid upper torso and arms is the elbow joints look slightly different, but the elbows on the new Souloids look identical to the NL boy ones, so it's likely just a design revision made since I ordered mine in 2012.

    9. I did notice that in the info, they say Phiel takes 12mm eyes and Titika (Soulkid) takes 14mm. However, eye size can be subjective. One of my guys is supposed to wear 14mm and I have 18mm in his head while another is supposed to wear 14mm and I have 10mm in his head.

My concern was the neck since if you can't get the head on or it sits weirdly, then you have problems and might need to go the mod route (which I really would prefer not to do). One of the options with Phiel is to have a human body as well so I'm guessing that it would be the same as their Soulkid line (unless they've made a completely separate body to match up with the Souloid upper torso, which doesn't seem likely). Although that doesn't explain why the neck sizes are different. Maybe a typo on the website?

    10. The upper torso IS the same as the nl body!
I have a Souloid Diget and some soulkid boys on the NL body, so if anyone still needs pics let me kow!

Never noticed they have listened different neck sizes to be honest. There is no dfifference to me and they are definitly the same uooer chest part and arms.

That said, I'd like to mention that I'm glad too see new Souloids.
I am however glad that I own one with an old body. The new one is gorgeous as well, but I definitly prefer the feet of the old one ^^°

EDIT: About eye size: Souldoll variates with eyeholes and tends to list the size hey used.
Qu - my Diget - has custom 12mm eyes as recommended bythem and I think he'd have worked even better with 10mm. But that's my personal preference.

    11. Thank you very much for the extra confirmation on the chest/neck being the same between the two, Snowy. I love the colour of your boy's eyes and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does the match between hair and eye colour *laughs*. My gut will have dark purple hair and Oscar eyes that have purple irises with gold pupils (he'll be getting the gold body).

Is the SD white really, really white like in the photo? has he held to that shade/tone or have you noticed a change in his colour? I have an SD Ize, but he's their normal and has a little age on him (although if he's mellowed, it's utterly even) so I've nothing to compare. I want to order my boy in their WS and if the dolly gods favour me, sometime down the road I intend to get a Vito Rail in WS and am curious about how the white holds up to staying white.

Eye size can be so tricky because the look you're going for may need something bigger/smaller than what the company has used and it's sometimes hard to tell until you get the doll in our hot little hands and try out various eyes. I'm going purely by the size they recc for the Titika head and how it looks in the company pics, which I'm pretty happy with. Fortunately for me, his partner is a head I already own so I know exactly what size eyes and wig he needs.

I could wait to order this guy's eyes until I have him home but I intend to buy his eyes from the same place as his partner's wig and the wig is limited stock and shipping is a minimum of $15US (which is actually more for me due to the suck-tacular Canadian dollar *sigh*) so I wanted to only pay shipping once.

    12. @Iron_Dog and everyone else who might be needing this information:
The neck difference listed on Souldoll's page has been bothering me much more than I thought, so here is a comparisson pic I quickly took just now. It definitly IS the same part on top and there is no difference. (btw I put the NL body on a box, to be able to take a good pic as the NL body is definitly shorter ^^°)
      [IMG]Souldoll Souloid-Soulkid by Wildcard_Snowy, auf Flickr

As for SD white: It IS paperwhite when you get it and slightly mellows into a very light creamy white one over the time. I was rather glad about that, as the paperwhite was rather glaringly so ^^°

Gotta dash or this would be longer, but I wanted to put the pic out there.

EDIT: The pic I posted of Qu earlier, showing his eye size is actually a rather good representation of his current white. Not glaring white, but still a white white without a yellowish hue, like most creamy white have.

    13. Very helpful! Thank you :)
The feet on the souloids changed...I didn't notice, now I gotta go look. The ankle of my iraki was very very thin and a piece chipped off. It's a very small piece so I'm not terribly bothered.

    14. @skyealloway It's not just the feet. They modified the whole mechanical body. Some changes are more obvious, some less. I'd recommend opening a second window with the old body next to the new one, if you want to see them all :3

      And no problem.

      EDIT:

I had some time on my hands, so I decided to look up the official pics of Souldoll and do a comparisson of old vs new.
      [IMG]Souloid bodies - new-old by Wildcard_Snowy, auf Flickr

The feet are the most obvious ones, because they have gotten a complete change of design. Also, I think the new body does not come with a second set of 'human' feet, like the old one did - feel free to point it out if you have different info on this matter.

Other than that Souldoll choose to enhance the details. There are screws scattered all over, on places where they make sense, or where there were circles hinting onto them to begin with. Then they added some little holes, 'square'ish structure to the cables on the tights and 'plate-lining' on the outside of the legs, as well as some small detailing lines on the knees.

Overall the new look is cool like the old one, just with more details. My only issue with it is, like stated before, that I prefer the old feet. (Well, and I like my 'round' cables more, instead of the square-ish ones on the tights.)
It's a matter of taste thought. These bring accross the 'robot' feeling a lot more than the old one did.
Then again, my boy is some sort of human turned android in order to be able to keep on living, so... :3 Yeah, the look definitly works better with that story ;P

I feel like I should also point out that the color on the left is 'silver', while the one on the right is 'steel' and is actually shinier than on the pic by the company. This could also be due to marbeling being a lot heavier since the first batch of Iraki. (Diget was way later and I'm actually lucky to have rather moderate marbeling on my boy's steel body)

    15. Snowy, you are made of win! I was honestly satisfied with the first confirmation from you that I didn't need to worry about neck size.

And it's good to know that they mellow creamy. It's not critical to me that he maintains a stark paper white look as long as he remains white. I only have one doll that I wish would have remained glaringly white (Fei-Lau, DZ Edward, who is a winter storm god) but he's mellowed nicely on the cooler side of tones so I'm not too bothered and it still works with his character.

And thanks for the comparison shot of the old and new bodies. For my purposes, Warrick works best with a more cyborg feel to his body as he was bred specifically to be a cyborg. I like the new feet as they're more... utilitarian and what he needs. I'm actually hoping for moderate to significant marbling to his gold resin because I really like the look of that. I'd be tempted to leave them a note to that effect but I think that might confuse them.

It doesn't seem to say anywhere on the sale page if you get human feet as well. I'd never use them so it doesn't matter to me.

    16. I have to get a Souloid this time before they are gone again, wish I could see what the Grey skin for lower body would look like. The gold/silver metallic is up there.

    17. @Snowy awesome, thanks! I like both bodies, really. The extra details they added are nice and makes it feel real. The lack of screw and bolt details on the old though implies a more futuristic design- like Wallie vs Eve. It's cool that they've done an update but I prefer mine :)

    18. Cricket, my Diget is a creamy white, actually quite wonderful.

    19. @Iron_Dog XD No problem at all. It was honestly bugging me after I noticed, that they indeed listened a different neck size and I was all like "how can that even be possible, when at the same time Diget was offered as human, with the normal NL body as well @.@ Is there really a difference?!?!?!?! And how could I not notice?!"

Ah, I can understand that. I'm glad my white boys changed that little bit and stayed that way ever since. I could take a pic of Diget against a white sheet of paper if you want?

Ah, yes Warrick really sounds like the new body was made for him :D
I remember being so totally upset that I couldn't get Iraki when he released and I didn't like the more roundish heads following after. Diget I had to pass on AGAIN when he came out, but I got lucky and was able to snatch him from the MP a while ago -^^-

If the marbling works in your favor, that's great :D
I like the way mine turned out as well, because they give it a little bit more structure, but I've seen one of the souloid-girls where the owner was selling her due too much marbeling and... well, i could understand it. Especially as it totally didn't work for her plans ^^°

... I kinda wish and don't wish (for buget reasons only!!!) they made an MSD Souloid with the kind of tail that Kowalski and the other big guy had...
It wouldn't work for Qu, but... I can definitly work with another one for that kind of extra equipment...

@derilan85 I think the grey skin for lower body looks just the same as the one on the upper body (like on that comparisson pic I made. The upper body of the new body is definitly grey skin). Not really much difference to the old steel, except no-shiney.

@skyealloway No probs at all. I could do with the new body if they added that tail of Kowalski - in fitting smaller size - I just realized. But I'd need a different head for that to work out. Luckily. my wallet couldn't take it.
I love your comparisson of Wallie & Eve -^^-

@SteamWitch Hoooh... Did you do that rustic/bronce blushing yourself or did you manage to snatch one with company blushing? Either way, Cricket looks cool :D
Glad to see another Diget -^^- And I love how different, yet similar he looks to mine :D

    20. @Snowy, no, thanks, I'm good. You've been very helpful and settled my mind a lot with your info.

For the longest time I admired the Souloids but had nobody who was one. Something about this new body (not so much the Phiel head though) called to me. When I saw the event head for Titika, I was smitten. My fate was likely sealed when I realized that by purchasing the Phiel as I wanted, I'd qualify for the Titika head as my event gift and could get the Souloid I wanted (Titika head on Souloid body).

Warrick's partner, Tohan, thinks the striping on Warrick's body is cool and it reminds him of the striping on his half-brother, Moswen (AoD Chi in tan). For full disclosure, Moswen is my favourite and the idea of another doll with "natural" striping (Moswen's is a full body job by the very talented Angel Toast) really appeals to me *grins*.
