SOULDOLL Zenith Chiron Discussion - 70cm Centaur & Human versions

Nov 19, 2008

    1. I learned long ago not to expect realism in my horse models. Too often artists will stylize a horse to try to hide their lack of understanding of true horse confirmation. it's the bane if being a horse enthusiast.

Geez, I hope the legs are better proprtioned than they look to be in on paper. I Could forgive the ubber stylized torso if the legs are proportioned...Well, we'll just have to see.

    2. Yeah, that horse torso is weak, as shown! Like an anorexic horsey. But it's all just the early stages, so who knows what's going to stay and what's going to change.

I'm thinking it can't be terribly realistic, just in terms of jointing and stringing and being able to balance and stand and pose... It'll be interesting to see how they manage it and still make it look horse-like. So far it doesn't look too bad, aside from the body of the horse... But it could all change once they get it all together and try to see if it actually can work!

    3. I think they are keeping proportions as they are for balance.
They must have used anatomical reference images of horses, I think it
would be a huge (amateur-sculptor) mistake not to. What they have
now probably works for what their engineering purposes are,
as far as the posing ability of the doll goes.

I was hoping to see more updates, but according to their response
to someone who asked them about it, they won't be updating images
      until mid-December. T____T

I'm just interested in the human body anyway, but still, dreaming of owning
that large resin-beast, is kind of neat. XD I want to see what it looks like put together,
      with its head on.

      - Enzyme ^.^

    4. That doll would be so cool to own, but I kind of wonder about standing issues. I have enough issues standing up my 2 legged dolls, 4 would probably drive me crazy XD

      I'm hoping he'll look epic though :)

    5. THIS. OMG THIS. *points emphatically* I mean, I can draw horse anatomy in my sleep here. Is it so tough to tack a few internet printouts up over your worktable? Srsly.

Looks like, yet again, I will be faced with a non-horse horse sculpture with Chiron. But since we know Souldoll reads DoA now, perhaps our outcry of complaints will cause the sculptors to try a little harder. X3 So everybody, jump on the "We want a better horsie body" wagon, and revolution shall be ours!!

Or (and Souldoll, are you listening now?) I could just wait to see what Soom is making...... *evil grin*

    6. Haha I agree completely about his girth. PLEASE!!!!!! he needs meat on his bones. Never seen pics of horses before? Ive got one ill gotake 40000 pics of him. =P But honestly......He needs meat on his bones. =]

    7. A posable horse is easy. Back in the day I had Cindy's horse, I'm pretty sure it was Cindy, maybe Barbie. I had a Cindy doll though. It was a blonde hair mane and tail and was completely jointed. Hmmm, late 70's or early 80's. He/she could pose on three legs. I don't remember if I got him on 2. And he was accurate for a toy.

Making the legs longer would make him less stable not more. It raises his center of gravity. Thicker, shorter legs would be the best for balance and stability. The weight would keep him from tilting forway and shorter legs would make him heavier in the back and make his balance lower to the ground. Still four legs are better than one.

Maybe the legs got stretched from the angle that the camera was at. That's what I'm hoping for.

One more week, okay, maybe two.

    8. I agree! I think there's some leeway, but for centaurs I feel it should be swaying toward the heavier side - if not like a draft horse, then at least an adult Thoroughbred! Not to mention that a stockier build will be easier to pose.

If it were, say, a unicorn, with legends that claim everything from a horse body to that of a deer or a goat or something in between, that would be different, but centaur mythology is really pretty much horse-based.

I personally would love to see something like a Percheron or Shire, a draft horse also of the type ridden by knights into battle -- I think that a warrior race such as centaurs would be perfect on such a body. And conversely, a gentle centaur would be so wonderfully juxtaposed.

Oh, my inner horse geek is just coming out. I think the problem is, there are so many people who are into horses -- and so many beautifully accurate horse toys -- that it really is just problematic if they don't get this right.

    9. LMAO. :candycane

    10. Gawk, if they did do a Shire , looks like a no there, I'd be all over him in no time :sweat

looks sorda skinny, athough I like that, but the chest looks ... well its like its not 'big' enough. Perhaps idd there is meat missing x_x

I'm interested, extreemly, but I will be waiting to what SOOM are up too >_O

      ----

ps: thers allot of totaly Great sculptors bolth clay and 3D who can't draw well, but still sculpt like a Pro. So to those panicing of the rather louzy art (imo kekeke ) please calm down, the guy HAS pictures of anatomy all his desk thus I'm sure he knows what hes doing ;)

      ----

      last edit I swear !
and then my hope died, this isn't even looking like the drawing >_<

    11. Oh. My. God.

I am so excited to se the result of this one. Do you think he will have an optional male torso? there were pictures of them making him some feet... And if so, do you think there will be a horse head for when the horse body is not in use? That would be so very nice... :D

    12. I'm not as much of a horse enthusiast. But seeing those images of the "completed" horse body make me cringe. Knowing next to nothing about horses, they just look all wrong.

Unlike most, I really don't mind a centaur with a stylized horse body. But the stylization must look good! His horse body just looks weird. I am sure if they are doing it for money or shipping costs (added weight of making a larger horse body) or balance issues that people will patiently wait longer and pay more for a nicer body.

    13. Yup, I will be waiting to see what Soom come up with. This is looking like it might be a bit of a disappointment. But let's wait and see the finished product. Now all we need is for Iplehouse to produce a shire with an Akando-style torso. Uuuuuuhhhh!!

    14. oh god....... i think i would explode...... seriously...someone go email iple house. tell them we want him naow!!!! lol :D do want!

    15. Oh god..yum.
      *drools*

    16. hmmm...I love horses...but no squat about them- just think they're beautiful and powerful. Yup- powerful. That means I want big muscular torso on the horse. That print out shows a rather lanky unicorn imo! I am sure that it's just early days really- I doubt they would settle for that being the horse part of the centaur. It doesn't reflect all the anatomy books the artist has on his desk!

    17. I'm hoping they will be adding muscle to the horse body, building it up with more clay.

I don't know how their sculptor works so it could all come together in the end ^^

    18. what I find odd is that these are the pictures that they posted. I mean, they wouldn't post picts of something to change it.
These are the clay models for producing the molds. Right?
I mean I would not post picts of something to completely redesign it.

    19. I love horses, but admittedly I am not a horse person.

That mock up spacerogue made DOES NOT look like a horse. Coming from a person who does not know much about horses I would say that is pretty bad. I would say it looks more like some kind of gazelle or deer with huge hooves.

    20. I'm a little disappointed. I never intended on buying one, but it's nice to see when an off-the-wall idea gets pulled off nicely. Body is far too thin, it kind of looks like a foal, not the body of a grown horse.
As far as I understood centaurs were big burly things, ready to war and battle; this is kind of like the pacifist runt of centaurs.
