SOULDOLL Zenith Chiron Discussion - 70cm Centaur & Human versions

Nov 19, 2008

    1. absolutely! I'm not at all fussed about the mechanics behind it- I mean: he's a mythical character in the first place and this is their interpretation. Aesthetically he looks a little on the thin side, but I think what Souldoll have done is absolutely amazing and probably a little Historical in our little BJD community!!!

I think he's actually alot cheaper than I thought he was going to...and the postae sounds expensive but is heavily subsidised because they're a company. I have to say I'm glad he isn't limited because I don't think I'd be getting him right now as I might be needing a new car next year so, um, dollies have to wait. I love his grey skin, and although a lot of other companies are giving the grey-skin thing a go- I personally love this version the best.

A bit of a n00b question here: to get the worn look on the grey is that part of the resin or is it blushed because I love it! I think I prefer the human face so if I did go for it, that's what I'd choose...loving the human outfit too!

      Welldone Souldoll!!!

    2. The grey skin is a fantastic option! I'm so glad it's not limited!

I think I'd like one just to be an elf though...

      But I wants that sword!!!

    3. I think people are thinking Souldoll's interpretation is a bit off because the lower half is supposed to be that of a horse... and horses aren't that skinny. ^^' I think everyone who had different expectations are completely valid in their reasonings.

Also, I'd imagine a dragon skull would look quite a bit like that of certain dinosaur's. :3 I know at the Indianapolis Children's Museum there's a dinosaur skull that's on display that looks quite a bit like what many people portray dragons as. It's true that there aren't exact examples of mythical creatures but it seems they're often based off real animals/creatures which can be looked to for reference.

Personally, I loved the idea of Souldoll doing a centaur but he fell flat for me and it's all because of that torso. Domadoll managed to do a great smaller centaur so I suppose I was imagining that Souldoll's would be similar in proportion only... bigger.

    4. He's freaking amazing!!!! :D I love the human version.

KeiCai_Ayan has a point about the Horse's torso being too thin.

    5. well I'm having him... especially as a friend has just offered to buy him for me as a solstice gift... the fact his body is out of proportion is neither here nor there to me... I am attracted more to the symbolism of him as Chiron the wounded healer...:aheartbea

    6. I was also thinking SoulDoll would make Chiron a sort
of "multi-optional" doll, with the ability/option to have human parts,
as well as be placed on the horse body, all in just one doll.
I was expecting a third-joint at the hips, basically. Regardless,
I think I might want to get the centaur sometime down the line,
when I'll have no issues with having such a massive resin-creature
living in my already overcrowded room (he's just too freaking cool). XD

Thanks for your comments about my mock-up. ^______^ I think I'll contemplate
sculpting my own human body from now on...er..eventually. XD

      - Enzyme ^.^

    7. Hell's bells! Who GIVES a crap about his LUNGS? Or his ribcage's capacity? Or his digestive powers as relates to the size of his belly? He's a farkin' centaur doll! :aheartbea Wowww, and is he ever a stableful of gorgeous. That is one lean mean little stallion there.

I didn't expect his face to be so stunning, and I didn't expect the body to fit all together as nicely as it does. It all makes a lovely shape, and if he can do half of those poses in the pictures, it's an impressive feat of engineering. He is really pretty fab all over.

Who just said he looks like he should be friends with Soom Euclase? ^^ Kinda sorta yeah! Glitzy costume, dramatic makeup, delicate face, chilly expression, & awesome fantasy weaponry.

(PS. Don't bitch about the postage for gigantic dolls; save your breath. 70cm dolls are tall. 70cm centaurs are even bigger. The box will be huge. The box will be heavy. They're expensive to ship internationally. That is how things work. I would tell you how much it cost to get Iplehouse Akando's backbreaking 16-lb. box from Korea to western USA, but it would hurt your wallet just to hear it.)

    8. Speaking of Euclase..... I almost wondered for about half a second if the Hawk legs would fit on the centaur. ;;>.> But the joints are probably waaay to different, though it would be awsome to have a creature with bird AND horse feet. >w<

    9. OMG--I want I want I want I want I want. Why do I have to be unemployed :...( I would've put one on layaway *bangs head on desk* Oh well, he's not an LE, so I will have future opportunities to get one. He's just amazing--and yeah, the horse section is not conformationally perfect, but he is a doll after all, and getting him to be functional is an impressive feat of dolly engineering! He also isn't priced as high as I would've thought which also makes me happy. He would normally be within my reach.

    10. I was expecting his face to be beautiful but I'm always a sucker for Souldoll sculpts. They just usually end up being such small little heads they don't fit in with my group. I sure do like his human form (yeah, I'm not thilled with the little horse body:sweat) and I hope he has a larger skull, his hands sure make it look dainty.

Issues or gripes aside, I likes him! His nose is adorable. :gingerbreadman

    11. I think I just fell in love with his face! (For my MA girl) I wonder if I can get someone to split for the WS body.

    12. I love both of them, I think they're gorgeous. Souldoll's done a fantastic job. I especially like that they're not limited so I won't have to bankrupt myself to try and get them at present. I sorta wish they'd make the Centaur in NS but I'm happy with the grey skin. I don't like WS as much with a male. I'm not a horse person so the body looks fine to me. I love the creativity of Chiron (and his name). I'm thinking about getting both, but I need to save up enough to get Chiron for now. I'm hoping they'll do a female version of him as well.

    13. Wow, I did not expect to want this, but I kind of do-- the human version, that is. That hand detail!

    14. I'm going to save up for him, but I don't think I'll be buying either until someone else gets the grey skin. I trust Soom, and have bought Euclase but after that, was reading the DoD threads on their Grey skinned dolls. Some of them have been really dreadful so I'd like to find out how well mixed/done the resin will be on the Chirons before spending $1000 to get one. I don't like it when companies put disclaimers like "if the seams are rough or the colour mottled, it's not our problem". Most companies try to send out a high standard but apparently DoD's were quite dreadful. Souldoll have a good reputation, but I haven't seen them offering Tanned/Grey skin dolls before so I'm a little wary.

    15. Wheeeeeee!! OMG order "confirmded"! :D *spins around* I'm glad that outfit was a little too... erm.. "flamboyant" for Kiale. I really don't have $250 to blow on ONE set of clothing.

I see what people are saying about the horse body, but I have to say I find it kind of funny that there's so much more of an uproar about anatomic accuracy of the horse body than there is over human bodies. I mean, we see TONS of stylized body types in this hobby! Why shouldn't the horse, a centaur and mythological creature at that, be stylized as well?

    16. I'm hoping once he's out a bit they'll consider offering the bottom half in a different colour resin than the top half. I'd prefer his human half in NS but his horse half in grey or even a dark tan.

    17. This doll's absolutely gorgeous. [ falls over dead ]

      Well done, Souldoll. ^o^

    18. I totally misunderstood what you were saying...

    19. Oh dear god I'm SOOO glad he's not an LE!!! :aheartbea And the PRICE! Holy :moo! :o I thought for sure that with him being as big as he is that he'd be a LOT more than that! I don't want to think about shipping costs... but yeah... he is SOOO getting added to my wishlist now! :doh Why can't $10/hour at work be enough?! :...( I need $20... somehow. :| I might have to get a second job now after all... not just so I can pay bills, but so that the money from the second job can pay for the dollies!

    20. I dunno... some of it really kind of depends on personal opinion, I think. I have a gray skin Kalix and I don't have any problem with him at all. Admittedly since I want Chiron in white skin and not gray it doesn't personally affect me as much, and it is very nice of Souldoll to make him non-limited so it's easy enough to wait until someone else gets him and can review the gray. I guess my opinion is just... don't believe all the hype, I suppose, either positive or negative. Even if there is something that is a horrible problem to one person, someone else may not even notice. (I don't know if my Kalix has what other owners might consider bad seams or marbling, of course - I can't tell if I lucked out, or if I just don't perceive it as a problem...)
