SOULDOLL Zenith Chiron Discussion - 70cm Centaur & Human versions

Nov 19, 2008

    1. Huh. That's certainly what it says now but it makes no sense, since they're still selling the whole human doll for $610.

      ETA: NM!

    2. do you think that's it? i must say i find it pretty difficult to understand souldoll english explanations most of the time really, i hope you're right with this one. i've gone and asked to them directly about this and some information on the gray skin and eyes choice. we will see what they're going to answer.

    3. That is, in fact, what they mean. It is the option to have the human body along with the centaur body. It doesn't mean that the $850 is only for the head and chest.

    4. Though I do find this little bit interesting....

It sounds to me like they made this torso to be three sections when in Human form. When the Human version for sale obviously only has a two-part torso. So they engineered two different types of torsos...?? Seems like they put a lot of thought into this, instead of spontaneously offering the human half as an option. Two different torso types would indicate that they planned to offer the lower human body as an option all along.

    5. I think he is awesome. I probably wouldn't have sculpted the torso that way , but its called artistic license ---- each of us is allowed to have our separate visions of how a piece should look. And after struggling for a long time trying to get those kinds of legs to lock properly in bjd - I think they've done an amazing job.

Have to agree, i suspect he wouldn't be much of a distance runner without more room for lungs in the horse half - but I love the way they sculpted the front of the torso where human and horse combine - that may not make much sense anatomically, but it looks gorgeous....

    6. Oh dear. They just HAVE to make this totally irresistible, don't they? XD Oh Souldoll, our wallets curse your name!!

    7. Wow.
That's all I can say. He is amazing! I really wish I had the money. I only have about 200$ saved up for dolls though right now...
Maybe in a few years after I buy several other dolls I'll get him??

    8. I'm struggling. There are so many things to like about this doll and then there's that one detail that a mythological creature lover like myself can't seem to overlook. I wish it was a small thing, some nitpicky piddly thing, but it isn't. I agree with everyone's arguments on every point from material and structural limitations to artistic license, however I think the human doll turned out best. It's very Oberon, King of the Faerie, in that costume.

That's my silver lining and I'm sticking to it.

    9. Okay, I keep looking at it and think a 60cm boy torso or a tall mature female torso would look much better on the horse part. because the 70cm guy torso on there looks so, so, so utterly wrong and big and weird on the horse part. Looks like they got an adolescent horse and combined it with a mature, muscular man torso...

Also, I know peeps are complaining about the horse body, but I'm more concerned about the human body... The hands are HUGE... They're almost as big as his head, which is so proportionately off since hands are about chin to middle of the forehead length, not chin to the top of the head length...

And the human legs look too big and muscular for that torso... it looks like a teen's torso in comparison to the legs, blah.

Don't get me started on that neck thing, yerk.

(Hey, if people are nitpicking, might as well nitpick everything)

    10. hehe then i'm the easy going member of the group :), i love everything about him, well i might want the human head to look...less...chibi ,but that it, but since we get a choice to choose i'm all good

    11. I also noticed the human body's proportions, the centaur body
looks cool to me (I think I might get him someday, in
the far, far away future!). I wouldn't mind the size of the
hands, if the torso wasn't so freakishly short, even just
a few cm longer, would have made a huge difference.
      I even did a mock-up that I posted a few pages back. I have
issues with how long bjds-legs are (I didn't used to, but now
owning more realistic heads, I want more realistic bodies, as well!).

I'm not surprised that people are not saying anything about
the human-body, because it is in the already common "BJD-aesthetics,"
of this hobby, realism is not necessarily something people expect/want
out of the "human" bodies. I think because the centaur is a new-thing,
it is making people take more "notice," of its proportions.

      - Enzyme ^.^

    12. You are right. I had to go back and look at him again, but his proportions are very skewed. I looked at him in clothes and didn't spend much time on his nude shots. He looks really fantastic in those clothed shots. He has so much hair I didn't notice how small his head is. I still want him though. I hope his clothes are not limited.

    13. Ah, I am so glad they did this as I had really thought this would be the option all along as was a little disapointed when they hadn't done it...

    14. My oh my. Honestly, I don't care much about the Centaur, but I really like the human sculpt. :)
Only where to get shoes for 9.5 cm feet? :o

    15. I was really excited about this one but seeing the pics I'm disappointed. The human version is so lovely, I would definitely think about getting him, but the Centaur I don't like! I think it's the horse body. It's too thin! I kept looking at it and I couldn't put my finger on it, but the horse body is simply too thin. It's awkward looking, IMO. I've gone back and looked at pictures of horses and centaurs, and it is thin. I mean, a centaur is a mythological creature so there is no true anatomical description other than half and half. However, if it is to be half horse, shouldn't the horse part at least look correct?

Now, there could be two reasons for this. One, it really is thinner and Souldoll was crunching. What I mean by that is they simply couldn't afford to make it truly anatomical or they could afford to manufacture it that way but the cost to the customer would be too great.. Two, it's been photoshopped or it's an optical illusion, either way it's not entirely an accurate portrayal. All I have to say is Gisele....

As far as the human version of this doll I really like it. His face has has so much expression. I also like that he can come in 3 colors. It's nice! I really like his outfit as well. I'm really excited about him. I'm going to have to play with my buget a little see what I can do. :)

    16. I like the heads: lovely angsty grumpy looks but the only thing that's keeping me from falling for him hard enough to buy him is his petite nose :XD:. I have a thing for manly noses :P

    17. Baaawh, I know. His nose is slowly but surely bothering me more and more lol. XD That face NEEDS a manly man-nose.

    18. This is posted on Chiron's page:

Parting lines on the grey skin body can appear little roughly and hard more than
      white & normal skin.
Also some marbling & minute hole and can appear on the body but we can't remove them
because the difference with original color tone.
And, parts of joint can wear down more than other skins.
We don't accept the exchange of a doll by this point.
Therefore, please make a careful decision after due consideration.

Anyone have problems like this before?

    19. Those are all the same issues that can happen with any company's tanning dolls. Souldoll is just being upfront about the challenges of darker and colored resins, I think it's very good that they put that up. Though companies have come a long way in working with unique resin colors, it is still a much more difficult process and requires much more care by the owner.

    20. Thanks for the response, Arvanah. That makes me feel better. :)
