SoulDoll Zenith Discussion ~ Part II

Nov 12, 2014

    1. Oof, sanding is so boring, no wonder progress has been slow! Can't blame you! It does look much closer though, keep going! :D

    2. omg for an iple body! TAKE YOUR TIME that thing is too expensive to screw up on lol Just don't get forgetful and use your masks/retaliation/etc.

    3. That mint skintone is hypnotic *_*:love

    4. Oh! The skin colour is very interesting, her wig is very nice and she have a pretty face <3

    5. @Suindo Thanks :). Oh goodness... an exacto knife :o. Kudos and I envy your bravery :abow:. How did it turn out? I have toyed with the idea of using a dremmel tool but fear of destroying the neck has kept me with the slow route. After this I have a SID neck to modify for Souldoll Briseas ( her head is larger than typical Zenith Girl heads). Hope my second mod won't take me as long and this one.

@overlordu Thanks :) and oh my yes wet sanding is slow. I have a Cerra-canna ceramic knife from Volks i use to carefully shave off resin. Shaving has been slightly faster.

@Lady Tiku Thanks :) not to worry, I'm taking my time :thumbup. Even though Dremel tools tempt me at this point, I am far to afraid to destroy the neck. So slow and steady will eventually get me there. And then modding a SID woman neck is next. Two of my poor Iplehouse girls are becoming floaters :huh?:.

    6. It's so exciting to see everyones various heads on the Shiva bodies! I took it upon myself to pack mine up and take her to a meet up tomorrow for the first time (I've had her since 2014). A little nervous about the hands but it should be fine. My other option was my Uha with the Justitia armours, but her knees have started buckling weirdly and I haven't had the energy to look into it yet (that new Zenith body is a nightmare for me). Besides, she's even heavier with the full armours than my Shiva with 6 arms, so I probably made the right choice there. People will have something to gawk at at the cafe we'll be meeting at.

@PennyDes Oh gosh, I'd never have the patience to do that the slow way. My go-to method is to take a handsaw and first cut the neck to close to the right length and then grab some very rough sandpaper, wrap it around the neck and start twisting to get it to the right circumference. Then, shape the top part and only after that take out smoother sandpaper and smooth it all out. :P

    7. @PennyDes, her neck turned out pretty well! I used the exacto knife the same way and just shaved down, then kept trying the head on to see if it fit! It sounds like the ceramic knife would work faster for your next neck mod :D

It seems like Souldoll also updated their layaway system. They'll be making limited doll layaways up to 3 months max, and starting today they'll begin production on the final payment instead of the 1st deposit.
Souldoll starting production on the 1st payment is what made me enjoy doing layaways, but now I guess I'll save up ans pay it off in one chunk now.

    8. uhhhm... so no more 6 month layaways??? :ablink::nowords::eek::horror::( not good... and if i recall... production started on mine at the half paid point... but regardless.. that's not good either...

    9. @Lady Tiku, we can still do 6 months on unlimited stuffs, just not the limited dolls now :(

    10. i need to check... i was sure my Oz (the first Oscal) was limited... when he was first released...

    11. Wow, if the new layaway policy had come up last winter, I would not have been able to get my Shiva! :o

Well, I'm about to order from Soom and was looking at their layaway options. It seems that they also shortened their maximum layaway time recently. Their reasoning was that when they made dolls for long layaways, sometimes the dolls would be yellowed by the time their owners got them. Since that would be fixed by not making the doll until the last payment was completed, I suspect that the truth is too many people cancelling their layaway orders...

    12. @Yenna :aeyepop::o WOW! A hand saw....You must have nerves of steel! Not to mention serious talent... I've seen some photos of mods you've done and they always look awesome :thumbup. Good luck with your Shiva at the meet.

@Suindo Oh good, glad to hear the mod turned out well <3 :). Here's hoping the rest of mod 1 and all of mod 2 go faster.
Thanks for the Souldoll layaway update... too bad they shortened it for limited dolls :chomp:

    13. @PennyDes Ahh well, I've been sawing and drilling dolls for a while, but not very often. It's always a bit nerve wracking, but shortening/thinning a neck is one of the first mods I did and the one I've done the most -probably. There's a routine to it once you've done it enough times. x)

Yess, myself and Yami survived the meet, although some tiny things were really trying on her nerves:

    14. Looks like Souldoll has updated their layaway terms, limited dolls are now capped at three months while standard dolls are capped at six.

    15. @Yenna, that picture is amazing, omg. XD And seconding that your mods and customs are always incredible! I was planning to mod my Shiva body to have six arms, though now that I have her, I might be too scared. :shudder

    16. That makes total sense... I can see how once you get a rhythm going on a certain type of mod it becomes easier and faster. Maybe after awhile I will find myself being more daring :). Glad the meet went well and Oh my goodness that photo of Shiva is fabulous! Love it! Good thing she has all those arms ;).

    17. Very much enjoying the newest wave of Shiva in all her forms, please everyone DO post more photos of your lovely new girls! She's one of those sculpts I never tire of. Ours is an older girl, white skin and I still can't decide between default head and my Agnetha head so I swap them...

@Yenna your 6 arm beauty is so stunning, have you shared photos of the mod? I'm not sure I'd dare it but I LOVE her with 6 arms, holy goddess aspect!

    18. I'm also waiting for photos of the new Shiva and shiva-body arrivals :D/

@overlordu Aww, thank you. I really haven't done that many mods though, just the bare minimum of what I've had to to either bring a character to life or to fix some mobility issue. Not going to lie: drilling her back felt pretty horrible, but it got easier once the initial holes were done and all that was left to do was to enlarge them.

@mimimontoya Thank you. ^^ I haven't actually even taken proper photos of the mod. I never fully finished it and I've always felt like I should make the new holes deeper, however I just tried to deepen them a few days ago and came to the conclusion that it's not worth it. Nobody ever sees her back anyway because her hair is in front of it. I forgot to take pictures of it again, of course.

    19. My Shiva should be here next month :eusa_pray
Although she WAS supposed to have been shipped to the dealer this month, but Souldoll didn't include her with the order for some reason. :nowords:I'm hoping this isn't indicative of any big problems with her.

Oooooooh, she's sooooo gorgeous!!! :love:drool That colour is simply stunning! And I love the expression that she has - the Karin sculpt works really, really well on the Shiva body. And those beautiful hands! :D Ah, she's so amazing!!! :love

    20. Hello everyone.

So a few days ago I mention to my great friend that I wanted to start doing face ups, and I was looking for a good practice head. Then she told me she had a head that she had been trying to sell for a long time. She told me not to buy any heads that she was going to give me the head as a gift.

The head is a 2011 SouldDoll Hewer. I think he is in white skin but the head as mellow a little bit because of age. I didn't know about the sculpt until my friend told me, and WOW he is beautiful.

I'm so excited Hewer will be the first doll I attempt to do face up on.

      Wish me luck :)
