SPIRITDOLL boys Thorn, Echium, Abies and Cycas

The boys made it home from SDink's spa. I got a chance to take come pics of both Rhys(Echium) and Thorn together today. I posted them over in the gallery. Here's a link for those that might be interested. They are even more amazing in person!

I'm curious as to whether the Dollzone boy's heads will fit on this body, I love love the body (not just the peens!!) but I'm not too keen on the heads.

 

Does anyone have any more info on the new revised Spirit Doll body? I noticed in the news section that Echium and Abies heads are being discontinued and that the male body is being revised.............I'm just curious as to what they are changing. Hopefully the elbow joint. If the elbow joint moved front to back instead of side to side the posing of the current body would be darn near perfect IMHO. I went to the Spirit Doll site and the prototype body looked a bit beefier than the current body as well. It was just a pic of the torso and legs, no arms though....................Would love more info on the changes being made............

 

I'm curious about that myself! I did ask a question on their forum right after they posted the announcement, but they haven't replied. I just hope the new body isn't took much bulkier. I was planning on getting one for my incoming Soom Sphaler head and I need a 70ish cm, skinny, lanky body for him. The Spirit bod is perfect, but there's no way I can afford to order one right now. Maybe the old body will still be available for a while?

 

I emailed them and they said there will be a changeover time for those who may want to buy Abies on the new body (possibly me). The new body will still come with the 3 optional parts (cough) so I'm guessing they're maybe making him a little more muscular with better joints. Spirit doll allow you to layaway I think - I noticed once on ebay something about it.

 

I'm really hoping the body will stay in its slightly beefier form. I really liked what I saw in the prototype pictures (just wish we could see arms and hands too ;__; ) I for one am really hoping for smoother jointing... The jointing on the girls looks really nice, so I'm hoping they can apply some of the same methods they used with them. And I'm glad we still get the optional parts, haha! Even if I never use them, they were definitely one of the things that made me take notice of Spiritdoll...

 

I truly love what they are doing with the new body, I hope to see a 3-4-part-torso,
and double jointed knees, w/out the visible joints (sort of like Iple House joints).
The proportions are a lot more realistic than their last body, although the butt looks
a bit on the short side, I know that's quite common for these dolls, but it looks especially
"funny/odd" on this body, because of how "realistic" everything else seems.

I can't wait to see the hands (I hope they are realistic, bony/vein-y but not too manly)!
Also hoping the neck doesn't end up too short, or too thin, it's hard to tell w/out the
arms there. ^ ^;;

Oh, wow! I didn't notice Spirit updated the progress pictures Everything looks really nice to me, and I also can't wait to see the hands! I know they're probably the most difficult part to do, but I'm not worried since the last (revised) body had very beautiful hands. As do the Spirit girls, for that matter.

MMMM THAT CHEST I hope he doesn't shrink much when they separate the joints...

 

I hope the chest doesn’t shrink too much either – especially the size/length
of the pecs, I dislike the “short-pec-syndrome,” most “mature” male dolls
seem to suffer from. ^ ^;; But I guess in this case it will depend on the heads
that are placed on them, since there is no head on it right now to judge how
short/long the pectorals truly are. I’m hoping to use my some of my Minimee
heads on this body, so I hope the pecs are a nice length (as well as a nice
thick neck, and broad shoulders to avoid the bobble-headed-look!).

A quick-&-dirty mock of what I would like the torso-jointing to look like,
also added a bit of length to the butt… because it truly does seem too short to me. ^ ^;;;

what does their tan version's of the doll's look like? I so want to buy a Firson now because he's so perfect for a character i have in mind! *does random dance* Probably the only 70 cm doll I'll ever have.

 

I love their tan skin - it makes the doll look totally alive, Ill have better pictures soon, but here is one older:

I love their tan resin too (at least the tan they used on the first edition bodies, I'm assuming it will be the same color). Here are my guys in tan.

I have only just discovered Abies and would like to know how long he was in production for and when he was discontinued. I really love that sculpt and am sad to have missed it. Can only find a couple of owners on DOA.

 

As far as i know, when the new body was putted for sale ,Spirit doll made the annuncement that these two mold were discontinued.

 

I managed to snag an old Abies in March by specifying that I only wanted to order if they had the old head. Feng Ying said they only had one left in stock at the moment . . . I wonder if that means they still have the mold and would consider releasing him again. He's so unique -- sad to see him disappear, I can just imagine how amazing he'd look by different owners. The sculpt has so much potential.

 

Thanks for the information, I didnt know about the two different Abies heads and would be interested in seeing more comparisons. The first version is absolutely gorgeous. Love yours Mojomaca!

 

aww, I'm so sad to see that they're changing the head designs! It looks like a LOT of us are in agreement that they should have kept Abies the same... I knew I recognized that facial structure form somewhere before! Spiritdoll was in the Artist-style BJD area back in 08'! *facepalm* makes my heart well with pride heheh~

OH and while I'm here...are they still doing adjustments? I don't think I completely understand...in the painfully distant future *cries* I plan on getting myself a Firson! I say he's perfect as-is...
