Staring instead of playing

Aug 18, 2006

    1. Not at all, I stare and admire my dolls all the time. Ever since I got my dream doll at Christmas, I've playing, redressing, carrying her around from room to room, sitting her on my lap, my husband and teen daughters must think I'm crazy but they're very respectful, I'm the happiest and luckiest person in cloud 9. I stare and admire all my BJD nightly.

    2. I'm a starer fo'sho.
My Valentine sits atop my book shelves and she just looks so pretty there. As I do homework or whatever I'm working on I like to look up at her. I like to change her clothes or make clothes for her so that's about as much touching or playing as I do with her. I'm expecting a new doll in a few weeks and she'll probably be sitting pretty too. However, I really want to learn how to do face-ups! I would consider that playing.

    3. I do both. it depends on my mood and time. ^^

    4. Usually, I sit my dolls on my lap and either brush their hair of move their torso/arms arround a bit ._. I really don't do much with my dolls :sweat

    5. It depends on your definition of play, I guess. When I think about playing with dolls, my mind goes back to when I was a little girl, holding a doll in each hand and shaking them gently up and down while I naratted their conversation. I don't do that anymore, lol! Mostly I hold my dolls, keeping one near me while I go through the day (this is only at home though, they don't come to work with me). When I am really stressed, I will find the most comfortable place in the apartment and line up each and ever doll I own around it and stare at them, breathing deeply, letting my mind wander. I spend a lot of time dressing them and thinking about what I would like them to have. I do spend a lot of my doll time just admiring them, though.

    6. The only time i "play" with my dolls is 1) when I take pictures of them, 2) when I change clothes of wigs or stuff (this usually happens when I'm about to take pictures of them) and 3) when I restore them, clean them, sand them, string the. Doing maintenance on them. Other time, they just sit on my doll shelves.

    7. I actually hardly play with my doll. I more or less just keep her in one place and look at her and feel happy about it. I don't really touch her much and it makes me happy. Just the feeling of having her there is my way of enjoying the doll. Some people like a hands on approach more but I'm a look and smile type of girl. :3

    8. i love to stare at them, but i prefere that i just carry them around my room
i just love the fact that dolls are in my space :)

    9. Funny that you mentioned this, when I was taking pictures of my dolls putting up a Christmas tree and drinking tea, I had left them in those particular poses (cause I keep them in a separate room) Then my boyfriend saw them in the room and he was like: "You were playing with your dolls weren't you?" and I'm like: "Uhhh no" lol. I tried to explain to him that I just put them in those poses for pictures only and when they have new outfits, but he just makes fun of me and say that I was having a tea party with my dolls.

    10. You can only take pictures, pose, and change their clothes so many times before it gets old. I tend to stare at them way more than I actually do things with them. I will just sit them next to me when I study or write so I can glance at them. I also sit them next to me while watching TV/a movie or when eating alone just to have them in my presence. For me, I think for the most part it is just another aspect of the hobby (:

    11. I love to stare at mine! I could just do this for hours! But I also love to change their clothes and pose them for pics! I also mentally talk to them! ;)

    12. As a few others have mentioned, I'm not sure I really know what people mean by "playing" with their dolls. I mean, I jokingly say I'm playing with them whenever I touch or move them, but I'm not actually playing with them like I would have played with my Barbies when I was a child. I do a lot of staring at my dolls. When I see them and the work I've done on them and the artistry of the sculptor I feel happy.

    13. Now, that you mentioned it, I don't play with my doll that much either as I thought I did...=/ Other than photographing them and painting them, I just dress them up and just have them look pretty for me.

But I love to look at my dollies! I always have new idea of every time I look at them and they cheer me up!

I'm not just staring, I'm admiring the way light bounces and reflects them! =D

    14. I find myself staring at my SD and playing with my MSD. It's mostly because my SD poses a lot better and strikes a powerful presence. I like to put her in a pose, sit back, and admire. My MSD requires a lot more maintenance since she's a resinsoul and she's the only I carry around with me.

    15. I really love to stare at my dolls too.

I only pick them up for a photoshoot, but otherwise they just stand and I like to look at them. :) I don't play with them. Never really did. And I don't really take them with me either, unless it is a doll meet-up ofcourse. Then I'll pick one or two and carry them with me.

Staring at my dolls makes me happy. :aheartbea

    16. I love staring at them too ^^
I love take pics, quite often, but the joy I feel when I stare at them is my one and only parameter to give a value to a doll.
it might be the most beautiful in the world, or the easiest to pose, but if I don't feel happy just by staring at it, it's a bad sign.

For example, I haven't been taking pics of my first doll from almost one year. so, it can easily be said that I don't play with her. but I think I'll never be able to part with her, because every time I just stare at her I feel happy :-3 which remains the most important feeling for me!

    17. Would be amazing if I had friends with bjds to "play" with me... You know, change clothes, try on wigs, do photo sessions... ;) As I said I mostly stare at them when not taking pics... And we talk mentaly... Wich is weird, but I always call myself doing this! Aha!

    18. I guess I do stare at mine a lot: take them out of the box, dress them up, pick out wigs and just admire how awesome they are. It's very relaxing, actually.

But I rarely take them out of the house, except to go to a meet.

    19. I like to cuddle them, stare at them and play with them. I guess it depends on what you call playing. As like right now I have my twins Runes & Rivan sitting next to me after just brushing their hair and thinking about taking pictures. But I think just cuddling and hugging them and talking to them is a great way to relax. I think i would play with them more if I still had close friends in the hobby but I don't.

    20. I stare at mine more than I play with them, but I think that's perfectly normal. A car sits in the garage most of the time (for most people, anways) and you're not "using" it. My Sooms are more "looking" dolls, where my Migidoll and (hopefully) future Ringdoll will be more "playing" dolls since they are not as rare and I feel more comfortable doing stuff to them.
