1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Stopping The Temptation

Jun 29, 2023

    1. Resist temptation?!? Bwaahahahaha!!! Oh, I don't do that... lol

Seriously though, when they start talking to you, it's VERY hard to resist. Especially when they start telling you all about themselves, and insinuating themselves into your story. "Oh, I can be that apothecary character you always needed", "I can be so-and-so's new best friend", "Hey, didn't you need a love interest for X?". Honestly, when it starts getting to the point where you are fully fleshing them out in your head; it can be nigh impossible not to hit that buy button.

I'm apparently not good at resisting temptation... sooo, my advice is DON'T be like me???

      Good luck!

    2. When I got my first bjd I swore that would be it, just having the one doll would be more than enough and complete my dream of owning a bjd. He was a gorgeous full set Loongsoul 1/3 doll. I actually did pretty well with this for about 8 years, that is until I saw the bjd club at the local convention and fell in love with their smaller dolls (my doll was a big 1/3 Loongsoul boy).

After seeing the dolls at the convention I started looking online again. There were so many dolls available and all were so gorgeous! So I thought to myself "why not get one more doll, a girl this time", and so I did. Then someone was selling a legit blind box bjd for super cheap in a group, so I jumped on it... The smaller sizes for these two really struck my heart strings, so I traded my boy.

Long story short... I had one doll for 8 years... Now since last year I have 2 msd, a yosd on the way, and 4 off topic bjd in varying sizes x'D The temptation never really goes away in my opinion.

    3. I try to curb the temptation by mostly only letting myself purchase second-hand... however, that backfires very quickly as nice things become available very unannounced :sweat

    4. Unfortunately, i think the only times i've successfully talked myself OUT of buying a doll, it wasn't one i really wanted! (Don't get me wrong, some have stayed on the "to buy" list a very long time, but they're not leaving the list either.)

    5. Besides the lack of funds? xD That's what used to stop the temptation when I started.
Then I started establishing rules just to restrain myself from having a too-long wish-list (for example: no bigger than this size, no two dolls from the same company, blah blah blah). Of course, that didn't work for long, but I think it helped me shape my idea for what I really wanted to collect.
That said, if that particular doll has spoken to you, you have the idea, and you have the means to have it without jeopardizing other areas of your life, I would surely go for it.

    6. One does not simply stop the temptation! Though to be fair, I never entered the hobby thinking I would only have one doll. I love having options, and I also enjoy different, clashing you'd say, aesthetics so a single doll would never satisfy my creative pangs.

Because I work backward in terms of dolls (character first, doll second), if I ever see a doll that "speaks" to me? Like actually "speaks" to me?? It's already over by that point because it would mean I have stumbled across the perfect shell for my character and nothing else, more or less, will do. Cue screaming and wailing if the doll is not available anymore (it's been a decade that I've been looking for Crobidoll Red now, one day...).

In terms of curbing the temptation though, I would say, be considerate. I would always check my finances and current projects and decide when the right time to take the plunge would be, especially if the doll is relatively available secondhand, and moreover, firsthand. If it's too limited or rare sacrifices might have to be made, but other than that it's relatively easy to control and wait for the right moment otherwise.
