Stupidest thing you've ever done with your BJD?

Aug 17, 2005

    1. I took Stellan apart to tighten his stringing, and so while I was putting the limbs on and taking them off, testing the tension, and putting the limbs back on again... somehow, during that whole process, part of his left eyebrow got scraped off :o Had to post at Iplehouse about it and they told me how to fix, but I didn't have any of the needed materials on hand, and I'd rather trust their own professional artistic ability and send his head back than try to fix it myself and make a bigger screw-up. He's back now and whole again :)

    2. thanks for sharing great stories hehe

    3. When I restrung Milo, I realized that I totally left out his stomach. :doh It went straight from his torso to his groin/waist.

I felt like an utter moron.

    4. Nothing overly serious, but I stood Elliot up on my desk [He has weak knees, he needs to be restring] He seemed pretty sturdy, but I was a complete klutz and banged my knee on the desk while getting out of my chair. : | Elliot fell face first onto the floor. ; __; Luckily he wasnt hurt or anything. I would have been so mad at myself if he had any scratches on his faceup or resin.
I couldnt keep myself from apologizing and giving him a big cuddle ; _; He's a pretty forgiving boy, thank god. :sweat

    5. Stupidest thing I've ever done... Left him alone in a room with my 18-year-old brother....|

    6. My mother has an AOD doll, and her head is hooked with an s hook. The doll came with magnets that were in a bag inside her head. I herd you could use elmers glue on the resin, and it wont do any harm. Plus it can dissolve with water, so if you glue something wrong you can fix it with the water, and start over. My mother saw how easy it was to change the eyes when the head isnt hooked, and the magnets are in place, so she asked me to glue them in. I didnt see any harm to glue the magnets in for her, and I already had the glue, so I went ahead and glued the magnets in for her. I was real careful, and checked the magnet directions so they wouldnt repell eachother. I checkes something like three times. After I was done, I put her aside for a day. When the glue was dry, I put the back of the head back on, and realized I had in fact glued the top ones correctly, but the bottom ones were repelling eachother. I dont know how I managed to get them backwards. How was I going to tell my mother? I felt like such a jerk ! I told my sister what I did, and we tryed to fix the problem by soaking the glue with water. So far it didnt work, and the magnet isnt budging. I had to tell my mother, I felt soooo bad. Now she keeps the beautiful doll in her box with the back of the head resting somewhere eltse. She doesnt want me to re-hook the head. I feel like I ruined her doll, and so far, thats the stupidest thing Ive done with the dolls,

    7. Brenay-Try soaking, then getting a very strong, very large magnet and trying to pull the others out with that. Also, it might help to make sure it's warm water instead of just cool tap water. Or you could try posting in the Help! Emergency! subforum, they know how to help with all kinds of things.

    8. I allowed a doll that practically hates my Florinel to hold him while I was walking around.
      It resulted in Florinel taking a massive facedive into the floor and denting his nose xD;

    9. While shooting a *ahem* rather risque photoshoot, Dai fell and landed on Kyo in a much more than risque pose. Needless to say, those pictures never made it anywhere near the internet! Sadly...

    10. I was borrowing a doll from a friend and for run sometimes i make them ride on my shoulders like little children. This doll was strung a little tight and so when I tried to get his middle section to bend forward he snapped forward and smashed the back of my head with his nose. I got tunnel vision for a moment or so.

LOL we ended up buying that doll from a friend XD ,so I can't wait to get my hands on him and redo his stringing.

on that note, the second day after I got my first doll I was messing with his tension and my BF broke his S hook! now he has a U hook XD which is a thick metal wire in a U shape to hold the elastic.

    11. Three words: NAIL-POLISH-REMOVER!..with acetone. It ruined two doll heads of mine. One bleached and one coloured blue. Im planning to sell them to people who do customizing, because I realy dont see a way I could fix them..

    12. I did that with Val XD I accidently dyed her who head purple back when I knew close to nothing about BJDs (2005, I think). Sanded her down and she's just fine now XDDD

    13. I took Naomi outside by the pool for a photoshoot with her new swimsuit. She looked sturdy enough standing there.....I think we all know where this story went.

She took a head-dive right into the pool. It's actually quite amazing since she was standing about a foot away from the edge of the pool, yet somehow she managed to kick herself into the air and flop over into the pool.

Luckily, I scooped her out of the pool almost immediately after she fell in and washed her with cool running water from the sink. I had no idea what chlorinated salt water (it's a salt-water pool) would do to resin or her face-up (default Volks limited face-up). She survived unscathed. I guess quick action and very little freaking out (until after the whole ordeal) led to me doing the correct things to keep her safe....after being stupid and posing her by the pool. :sweat

Now my little daredevil stays away from the pool....and with a doll-stand.

(Naomi's my daredevil since she's also the one to jump out of a tree, off a window-sill, and face-plant onto a hardwood floor. UNSCATHED. You'd never know by looking at her. Tough little cookie. :| )

    14. Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I specifically sought out non-acetone nail polish remover, but didn't realize that weird pinkish color it had was actually dye. . . and I used it on a vinyl doll, which are very prone to staining. To make it even more embarassing, I realized later that the rubbing alcohol I have is a whopping 91%, which while weaker than nail polish remover is still strong enough to remove paint. :doh I've got the head soaking in benzoyl peroxide in the sun, which seems to be helping quite a bit, so hopefully it won't be noticeable in another day or two. ^^;

    15. This made me laugh! I think he was trying to get your attention by poking you in your rear. he he he!

    16. Nail polish remover is my doom.. at first I tried a acetone one and ended up with a blue-ish head.. then went for a none-acetone one and ended up with a one-side really pink head D=

I also made minor stains while wearing dark nail polish *I dont even wear that most of the time D=*

Other then that ??? Broke a magnet twice *stupid soom magnets D<* and restringned a doll with the arms and legs in the wrong place XD

    17. Because I can be so gung-ho (see: foolish, haha) I have to stop myself from sticking forks into the toaster sometimes, I decided to attempt to do my dolls faceup myself without really reading up on the proper application of MSC.
      Yeah.
I have to say though, the result was pretty unique.
If lepper dolls are your thing.

 The original problem was that I had sprayed the MSC too close to his face so it had formed an almost bizaree lump where it had gathered. The next problem was me. :D I tried to wipe it away with my thumbs and water, but where it was thinner it had already dried. Ohmai. I know that I should be embarresed about that but I just found it so hilarious it was unbelievable.

I have to say I learned my lesson quickly and wiped it and learned how to spray MSC properly. :doh
And this, is why I'm never going to open a face up commision shop. 8) But he does have a normal faceup now, though. xD

    18. Hm, I wanted to remove my Minoruworld Junior Minoru's head once...unfortunately the knot was too big in his head, and it got stuck. So I tugged and pulled and squeezed it through his head-gap. That's when I realized that the S-hook was also too big and now it was stuck there halfway in the gap. I couldn't tug it back, because the knot was stuck on the other side, and I couldn't push it through because the S-hook was just too big.

Finally I had to cut the strings above the knot to free the S-hook. thankfully I had a set of tiny-sized strings so I was able to restring him. Word of wisdom: Before trying to remove you doll's head, always check if the S-hook actually fits through the headgap...

Also...keep your bodyparts organized while you're restringing. I had my Hound's knee-pieces mixed up for almost half a year and I only realized it the next time I restrung him.

      I had a third one, but now I don't remember...:sweat

    19. I've left Milo on many a table, desk, couch and shelf edge while knowing full well that carpet is his favorite food. You'd think I'd learn to put him somewhere safer after seeing him crash to the floor multiple times, but nope.

Dumbest thing I've done with Hansel is photographing him inches away from a swimming pool. His character seems drawn to the water for some reason... I might consider bringing him to the beach or tide pools if I'm feeling crazy enough. :B

    20. I thought my BBB Isabella's eyebrows were too dark and thick, so I patted them with nail varnish remover. after I did that, I touched the eyebrows, and they smudged off completely! :dohnow I'm so annoyed.

      here she is!

and this is her with eyebrows, which I wonder why I didn't like them before....
