Stupidest thing you've ever done with your BJD?

Aug 17, 2005

    1. That really sucks! I am so hesitant on using anything on my dolls, makes me nervous even with Winsor and Newton. On a side note never put Winsor and Newton in a plastic Solo party cup. It eats through it nothing was harmed when that happened but scared me.

    2. Left my Yeon-Ho alone with my cat and came back seeing him getting chewed on >.>

And restringing his leg in the wrong way.

    3. I've restrung the arms on my Kara Klums backwards more times than I care to admit >.<
I will never understand Dollmore's dot system XD

    4. I was trying to pose my doll to hold a flower, and when I went to grab my camera, she fell backwards on the stone path.

Luckily the only thing that broke was the little piece in her head that holds the two pieces together and it was a hot glue fix.

    5. I've actually had no problem using dish soaps when doing a quick washing of a head after it's been cleaned with Winsor Newton brush cleaner, however I do test it out before I do anything. I have a neck ring I use to make sure the soap I use to wash the chemicals off heads doesn't have any weird reactions/stain. I have never tried submerging these parts for long periods of time though... and usually if an idea starts with the phrase "I don't know if it's safe at all..." I would opt not to try it until you've tested it out with resin parts like the donuts. Unless I find a lot of testimonials toward a method and specific product I usually don't try anything that has an unknown outcome (I have learned this the hard way similar to Chobittum's post). I'm not trying to be super dramatic about soap &water, but there are many brands of soaps, each in different colors, cleaning power and ingredients. I wouldn't want a squirt of soap causing damage to an expensive doll head.

To add, I find the best cleaning option for really dirty heads with paint deep in crevices is to fill a bowl with luke-very warm water, and dilute a little bit (cap full) of Winsor Newton Brush cleaner in the water. Then go ahead and submerge the part in the bowl and let it soak for 30-45 minutes. Then come back with a tooth brush (OBVIOUSLY one that no one uses to clean their teeth with xD) and start scrubbing! I've done that with Soom parts that had been heavily blushed and got nearly all the paint out of the various nooks and crannies. This is a safe and effective way to clean a head with a product that has had consistently safe results with.

    6. I let my dollfie dream's bust be passed around a crowded panel room because "OMG THE BREASTS SQUISH". It came back unharmed, and the panel was a success, so no harm no foul I suppose.

    7. I agree; I've never tried what I suggested with my dolls, but I put that part in there kind of hoping that maybe someone tried it already. In my household, when we have a frying pan, or a ceramic dish that we have issues washing, we put some dish soap in the pan, and fill the pan with some water, and let it sit for a few hours. It doesn't work perfectly, but we still get results.

I just don't want someone going by my advice without having other people to support or disprove it.

    8. I balanced Alekzander on my fedora and walked around for a while. At first, it was find, then I forgot he was there, bent down to pick up a pillow that had been thrown, and PLOP! Right onto the pillow. The way he was posed made him look very frightened. I forget that Alek hates heights.

    9. When I got my Weylin I took him out of the box and stood him up on the carpet.... and he pitched over backwards into the hearth and his ear snapped right off. Five minutes out of the box and he was broken. Clever me!

    10. The dumbest thing ive had happen to Ferris is letting her stand on a train track, then walking away to asist my friend with her doll, then looking back and watching Ferris fall and hit her head on the metal part of the tracks D:
She only got a bit of mud on her forehead tho *Whew!*

Weridest thing Ive dont for her would probably have to be getting her her own laptop, not as a cute assorory, but because i felt akward when i was on my laptop and she looked bored xD she just had to have her own

    11. I guess the stupidest thing I've ever done with my BJD is decided to test green on him....Green on a white resinsoul is such a bad idea....Never do it. Please for the love of god! NEVER DO IT!

    12. I didn't do this personally, but a friend did XD
She had her Luts EL with her in the car at the time, stopped at a red light, grabbed the boy and pretended like he was attacking her face and screamed. Got the attention of the people in the car over. XDDD

    13. I just did mine yesterday.
I was taking photos at the school next to my house, I wanted a picture of my girl standing on the playground bridge thing. She's usually good at standing, but she decided to get all kicky (should have been warning number 1), I finally got her standing, but she was posed weirdly and I couldn't get on the bridge with her so I walked around, of course the wind had to pick up right then.
She face-planted. Huge black mark on her nose, scuff marks on her leg and hands. She looked like someone had punched her, poor thing. I rushed her home, thankfully everything came off with magic eraser and no damage to her faceup, but she won't be standing on her own like that anymore :doh

    14. Dropped him on my concrete, painted floor. He didn't get chipped or anything but for some reason the red paint (even though it was dry) smudged onto him. I didn't have a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or nail polish remover so I rushed to the store and bought the supplies. I ended up having to take off his face-off to get the paint off.

And this all could have been avoided if I hadn't picked up the box he was in in such a way that it was bound to open up and let him fall.

    15. trying to do a faceup and being halfassed about it...aka not really caring since I had planned to get her a different head anyway. My 1/6 doll has had a total of 2 face ups i did out of boredom,1 that was just done with stickers, and 1 that I actually tried. All have lead to angry doll fans messaging my youtube about staining the resin(def stained now, but wasnt when it was just the marker...the acrylic paint did it), so I admit I was being really stupid about it and just didnt care. She is def getting a new head with a custom faceup not done by me...my hand shakes and makes it hard to paint small stuff/anything.

    16. Accidentally having dolls fall when posing them, and asking people to hold my dolls while I do something. Non-dolly people don't understand what "Don't touch the face" means. u-u I've had dolls get scratched and stained from this.
I also brought my dolls out with a friend once, and whenever there was a lot of people around, her wig would fall right off~ D; I now understand the importance of wig caps.

    17. spent hours making my very first pair of jeans for my very first doll!!! put them on and they were/are a snug fit but they fit non-the-less!!!! went ti sit him down to do a quick pose/shot of the new jeans.. T__T ripped the crotch right out.

Was very awkward because I put his pants on him while holding him under a table (as i was in a starbucks and didnt want people to see his.. *manhood*) so when the seem popped the man across from me got a full flash of remmy's junk. got a very odd look we did xD

    18. *Sigh* The most painful mistake I've ever made, will haunt me forever.
My Mom and I split the cost of a SOOM Euclase fullset doll. (due to some customs crapola, the total for the fullset doll was around $2000!!!) He is my dream doll, as I have a large obsession with all things ancient Egyptian. I was so in love with him that I had to have him near me at all times! I had him fully dressed and in his hawk-legged glory, Talon hands and all, Standing on my dresser at the foot of my bed so he could watch over me as I sleep! In my opinion, he was standing very strong and sturdy, I was convinced he would not fall. Alas! I forgot I had cats. After a speedy cat leapt from my window, I saw him fall.... I reached out for him almost in slow motion.... And I missed. Broke off two of his talon fingers, and chipped/scratched parts of his beautiful legs... I actually burst into tears.... and My mom was not happy at all. She will never let me forget it.

    19. My EL had old elastic and I wanted to try to see if I could fix his floppiness.
So I went to work restringing him, my smart solution was to just knot the elastic and keep trying until I found the right tension. But that turned into a 2 hour long nightmare.
I was so stressed out, I felt sick. Then finally I decided I would just put him back together and forget about it. Well, I ended up putting his feet on wrong 6 TIMES. I don't know if it was the stress but I somehow managed to put the wrong foot on over and over again. At that point I had to punch a pillow for a few minutes! I finally calmed down, and took the damn elastic and threw it into the garbage.
He'll be getting some new stuff soon hopefully, lol.

    20. Well, I don't know if it is considered stupid or not, but Nao is my mannikin. Whenever I need to draw several difficult poses for my commission job, I use his help, haha. Rion was my mannikin before, but he's too big and sometimes difficult to be handled. After adopting Nao, everything is easier

And, oh, sometimes Nao ended up in the most ridiculous poses because of his trollmom :P
      Love you, Nao~
