Stupidest thing you've ever done with your BJD?

Aug 17, 2005

    1. I'm dying laughing reading this thread. I feel sorry for the dolliehs that got damaged but some of these are just hilarious.

    2. Modding a wig with hot super glue while certain wig was ON my doll's head? =____= and I didn't realize that the glue was all over his forehead until it was too late *facepalm* to make matters worse, I took the Super Clean sponge to wipe all the glue and this one erased all his MSC ...since that was my first doll, 8 years ago, and I was in high school at that time with no money or dolly skills whatsoever...I kept my boy without MSC on his forehead for 4 years (until I could afford to pay for a new face up).

I have never used that sponge on my boys again or modded anything while they are on their resin:sweat

edit: I also remember that I used to clean my boy's body with that sponge every day!! :doh and it broke his resin! I was able to buy a new body though...

...I'm really afraid of that sponge ~__~

    3. Let's see.. I have a few!

The first was during a photoshoot. I had my DoD Kirill posing on top of the dresser, as I was focusing the camera he topped over and broke two fingers. >.

    4. Right before I was to bring Wendy into a room full of people to do a presentation on BJDs, I decided it would be a good idea to tighten her strings by tying a simple knot in them. This turned out to be a bad idea... the elastics snapped for some reason, and her right leg went shooting across the room like a rocket, for everyone to see. =facepalm= I don't think she'll ever forgive me for that.

    5. Making my first wig a long, long time ago. I used my SD's head to sew it on and stupidly used hair oil because the hair was full of static. When I took the wig off which was a piece of crap, my SD was so shiny and goopy from the hair oil. :doh

    6. Oh my gosh! so many funny (and sad) stories on here!

    7. Gosh, okay.

When I was trying to put the end part of my LoongSoul Celia's mermaid tail on it was really tightly strung. I had to get my mum to help me. Anyway, I finally managed to get it on the S-Hook but I knew it was going to ping back in really fast after I moved the support it was on. Long story short I kept a hold of it hoping to prevent less damage to the blushing and I ended up snapping my finger in between it and getting a bit of a blood blister and bruise which hurt like hell for a few days. The worst part? Her tail blushing ended up getting chipped at the end anyway :sigh

Recently, as in today, I was moving my big Lusion girl, Alexandria to get at the box she was sitting on to discover the design on it had melted/become tacky and has stained the back of her dress!! :(:...( Her beautiful pink dress is covered in green patches, I'm not sure how I'm going to get it off either. At least it was only the back of the dress and not the resin! I'm going to but a pretty cloth over the one she'll be sitting on this time, no way am I doing that again.

    8. When I first got my Loongsoul Meiji I stupidly left her standing in the center of the kitchen island while I chased after one of my cats to get a wig back thankfully when I got back to her 20 minutes later she was still standing even with the other two cats inspecting her she was covered in drool though :sigh

    9. I bumped my bookcase and accidentally tossed my tiny doll onto the ground. Picked him up, set him back. Apparently missed his head cap somehow? Next time I see it, it's in my dog's mouth. (It has a small scratch, but it's fine.)

My first attempt at restringing ended with the elastic's knot in my doll's neck. She stayed like that for over 6 months because I was too scared to get in there and just replace the elastic. (She came to me with VERY tight stringing, and it was impossible to get her to pose.) During that entire time, she couldn't hold her head upright, and snapped it very hard to one side.

When I first got my tiny, I intended to unstring him and toss him into a rit dye bath. (He was white, I wanted a natural tone. Yadda yadda.) I eased his head off, and the S hook slid out of my fingers, and snapped through his body really fast, and vanished somewhere. I have no idea where it went, and I had to buy a new S hook for him.

Not too long ago, I happened to have silly putty in hand (anxiety, calming self down, blah blah) and proceeded to pick my tiny up.
I spent like 2 hours finding all of the putty I managed to accidentally incase in his joints. Warm putty isn't fun.

(Basically, I am so mean to my tiny that it's pathetic. :( )

    10. Wore dark nail polish while changing one of my boys clothes.:sigh Luckily the marks were on the body and not the face and could be easily cleaned up with a magic eraser.

Second, when I was a newbie - I thought I could remove one of my dolls eye lashes because it was failing off anyway. It was just a tiny part that was still attached to the eye, so thought I could just remove it and then replace it. When I pulled it off - there went the whole eye area of faceup.:doh

    11. The stupidest thing I've done with my dolls is when I was trying to put a new pair of pants on my hooved Resinsoul Yao and the pant legs were too small and tore because I was too nervous about taking her hooves off and loosing the string/having to restring her.

    12. Definitely unstringing it without something to help with the elastic when I had to put it back in. At first it was as silly as not remembering how the elastic was supposed to go. So I had to go look that up. And that's where the fun began. "I don't need a hemostat! I've got fingers!"

Which is all well and good, but I had forgotten how tiny some of these channels can be and trying to figure out how to pull the elastic through them without any hooks or tiny instruments was a journey and a half. I couldn't get a good grip after pulling the elastic through one side and holding it with my pinky, since one hand was already preoccupied. Then I got my grip loosened by letting go of the torso and my finger got jammed in the hole with the elastic wrapped around it. At that point I figured I valued my finger more than I did holding the elastic taught, so I let go and the head rolled away and I nearly just left the doll disassembled for a while.

Eventually I had a stroke of quick thinking, and cut some lengths wire I use for armature in clay sculptures and wrapped it around the elastic loops, then used them to pull through the tiny holes. I also hijacked some bamboo skewers from my garage kit table and stuck them through the first loop so I could pull the other one through without pulling a repeat of what happened to my finger. All that and all I managed to accomplish was attaching the head to the torso. I repeated the process to put the legs on and by the time I finished I swore I'd buy a pair of hemostats and one of those hooked plastic needles before I disassembled it again.

Somehow I think I'll end up making the same mistake twice before I really learn my lesson. I can see her staring at me as if daring me to do it.

    13. Ohh....either super gluing my Bobobie Pixie's wig on because I was a newbie, had a long heavy wig that was too deep for her shallow head and elf ears and didn't know wig caps were a thing......or using liquid eyeliner and super cheap WalMart craft acrylics for my first doll's faceup with no sort of sealant at all. I got lucky, and neither doll had any harm done (though Pixie's new owner probably had to sand the glue off). I did some dumb stuff when I was a newbie and knew nothing of DoA, in the days before YouTube BJD info videos!

    14. All of my stupid moments have to do with restringing. Ugh. First attempts -- I misread the instructions and cut the strings to the wrong (too short) length. So of course that didn't work. Then, when I had finally cut them right and I had a restringing too, I pulled a liiiittle too hard and slashed my thumb open. Thankfully neither badly damaged Lance, but I felt sooo dumb.

    15. Long time ago I decided to clean the doll's face. I used a wet sponge. Beautiful makeup was ruined.

    16. The stupidest moment I can remember happened when I was restringing my girl. I was tired and not very sharp at that moment. I started with placing the parts in correct order on my floor and decided to restring her arms first. Somehow, I managed to put her right elbow, forearm and hand on the left side of the body and vice versa even though I had planned the right order beforehand.

Well, I dissembled her and tried another time. After putting her together again I noticed there was still something weird going on. I thought myself "Hmm, this does not look good. Why are her thumbs on the wrong sides of her palms?". I had restrung her hands in wrong places again.

After third attempt I finally managed to put her arms together correctly. I decided maybe it'd be better to restring her legs later and get some rest before it.

Fortunately this was nothing disastrous but it surely made me feel myself a bit stupid. :XD:

    17. I left a doll head sitting in brush cleaner for a day, not thinking that the solution could potentially eat plastic. Luckily, the only damage, if you could call it that, was inside the head, and it was minimal.

    18. After almost 15 years in this hobby I feel like i've done every *basic* stupid thing.
      dark nail polish...check
head kicking into the table resulting in chipped blushing ...check
trying to get more then six dolls to stand and them toppling over (managed to grab all of them whew) ...check
      too sticky eye puddy... check
      losing magnetic hands... check

...everything, have never hurt a doll though beyond slight faceup wear though

    19. The stupidest thing happened to me when I was restringing my Vito boy with the help of my sister. We were almost over with it, we only had a leg left to do. I was pulling the string really hard while she tried to place the feet with its hook on the string. I thought she had done it and left the string go... with the hook but not the feet!
The hook was placed inside the leg and I had a hard time getting it out while I was crying because he could be hurt. Fortunately the inside of the leg is very thick and he didn't suffered much, it isn't even noticeable, but I cried like I have never cried in my whole life, that I can promise.
Stringing is my weak spot after 4 years being in the hobby, I always do something stupid though I have done it several times, either mistaking left and right parts, or cutting the strings the wrong size...

    20. This was years ago but I was at the beach on vacation and had my two MSD Eien and Tori with me on a tour of the marshes, while on the marsh walk I decided to set Eien up on the railing for a photo (I seriously underestimated Bobobie's ability to hold a pose while standing), needless to say he went back first off the rail and into the boggy marsh! :horror:

Thankfully I was able to retrieve him and rinse him off, but he smelt like stinky marsh mud the entire ride back to the hotel :sweat
