1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Supia Tanned Roda and Rosy

Oct 14, 2006

    1. Do they have other sizes? Would they let you adjust your order? I'm not familar with Kstarr.

      Nancy

    2. No, only one size -__- Maybe I can fix the wigs. I hope...

    3. Well, I was unable to resist assembling my Roda even though I was determined to give her a full coat of UV cut MSC before I did anything with her. :sweat It's raining raining raining so I'll have to wait to do that. Restringing her was pretty easy, and I learned a lot about how she's constructed. Anyone else notice that adorable little separate teeth plate? :D

I've had some mixed feelings about her in the last few days but I've gotten much more comfortable with her now. It always takes me a little while to fall in love with a doll in person, even if I've been mooning at it online for months. She's really wonderful, but I'm going to have to repaint her face. When I sat her down to take some first photos in our little studio, I discovered that the MSC on her faceup has lots of bubbles in it. (They show up as dark reflective spots under strong light if you're not familiar with the phenomenon.) I hadn't noticed it before because I had only been looking at her in dim lighting. :( The coating on one of her ears has almost completely flaked away. This kind of thing happens when MSC is subjected to extremes of temperature and humidity, so it probably happened during shipping and is no one's fault. Makes me a little sad though because Yu Jin did such a lovely job. I'll just have to be extra carefull with her until I have a chance to repaint her in a few months.
I'll post some photos of Nina soon, but maybe no closeups. :sweat

    4. I live in Australia and it's summer over here so she's gone through extremes of temperature all right. That's such a pity it's happened. It does make me worry a little about mine. If she gets sent to the US, she'll go from hot to cold to hot again. I hope her MSC holds up. I didn't know about the separate teeth plate. I assumed it would be part of her head. I love the look of her teeth so I would probably keep it in all the time. She is gorgeous. I'm with the second order so I assume there's a long wait for mine.

I usually take a while to fall in love. It's very rare for me to open a box and think "yes!!!". I find the more you work with the BJDs, the more you like them.

    5. Hobbysue, what St James is referring to happened when the doll was sprayed with MSC because of the climate it was in at the time. It isn't something that happens because the doll travels from hot to cold and back to the heat.

St James, do you think another coat of MSC over the top would help?

Also the handy thing about removable teeth is that you can take them out when you paint the lips without worrying about getting lipcolour on the teeth, then just glass them and put them back in when the faceup is done.

    6. I don't think another coat would help. I've had this happen on some of my other dolls when I sprayed in too cold and damp conditions or didn't clean the resin well enough. Going over it again doesn't make the underlayer stick better. I'm not too broken up about it, it's just disappointing because I did pay for it. However, I won't be asking for any kind of refund or anything because Yu Jin did put in the labor and deserves to be paid for her time.
I'll forget all of the drama surrounding Nina's aquisition soon enough. Sorry for alarming anybody regarding their own girls!

    7. Hi St. James, sorry to hear you are concerned about your girl's face. I looked at each of these myself before shipping them and I didn't notice anything out of order. Are you looking at her face under a magnifying glass to see this? Yu Jin paints them by her naked eye-- she doesn't use magifying glasses or binocular lenses to paint... I am just curious because I thought all the faces looked excellent. I did not examine them under a magnifying glass.. just regular light and my eyes.. I wear glasses for upclose things.

I have three here, and just looked at them very closely (with my naked eyes, using my glasses) and I don't see anything like what you described.

Perhaps you can give me more info?
      Thanks
      Catrina

    8. I didn't see anything under natural light, either. But when I turned on our photography lights (which are just GE Reveal bulbs) I thought her nose was dirty. :? Then I looked at her a little more closely and saw the telltale bubbles. I couldn't get any good photos of her ear because she's so white  but here is the nose problem, just under her right nostril and all over the tip.

    9. Thanks for the additional info...

Well since neither you, nor I, nor probably Yu Jin saw this under regular, natural lighting conditions... it's a tough situation!

I check every doll very carefully before I send them and I never saw anything like this.
I think since you didn't see it either until using these lights, I'm sure you understand I didn't send you a doll with any noticeable flaw.

The only thing I will be able to recommend is that she purchase these special lighting bulbs and check her work with the special bulbs before shipping? Asia is a notoriously bad place to paint anything due to the high humidity they have there. Having lived there myself for many years, they tend to have extremely high humidity and no central heat in the winters. During the winters, you buy kerosene and heat your home with a kerosene space heater.

I don't really know what to recommend! The artists work in small studios and inspect their work by their own eyes. None of them work in climate-controlled factory conditions. Each doll is made by hand, and painted by the artist who created the doll.. which I think is part of their charm.

    10. No worries. I'll probably have to repaint everyone eventually, so it just means I do it a little sooner. *shrug* And the light bulbs are just ordinary full spectrum household lights...I think perhaps the luminosity of the french resin makes the bubbles a little more obvious than on my other doll that has the same problem because there is light coming through from the back.

    11. St James, I have honestly just taken the Roda dolls I have here and checked each one with many different types of light, and they look flawless... holding them up to the light, going outside, looking at them under bright fluorescents... There are also other dolls (such as in Gallery) and I don't see any kind of flaw with them. So I'm thinking yours is an exception somehow.

If you'd like Yu Jin to repaint your doll, I can ask her. Unfortunately, because she doesn't have your type of light bulb (normal natural light not revealing these things) I can't guarantee that you won't have the same thing happen again. I think she'd feel a bit upset to see your photos, and probably a bit helpless since she is not using any kind of special light.

Just let me know what you'd like to do. I don't want you to be unhappy.

      Catrina

    12. Really, it's okay! I don't want to send her away again, so I'll just live with it until the rain stops and I can repaint her. Like I said, I can't see it in ordinary light either, so I'll just be careful with her and skip using her as a jewelry model. Yu Jin has plenty of work already, and it's not her fault - we can't control the weather. :sweat I just wanted her to have a face when she got home to me, and she does. I'll delete the pictures from my previous post.

    13. Aah, she's just so pretty.. I'm actually trying to resist her right now x_X

    14. Here's another pic of my Roda--click on it to go to more pics in the gallery:

    15. Pas - Your Roda is lovely! Are those the default random eyes and wig you got from Supia?

    16. The wig is the default one that she came with but the eyes I changed. The ones in the pic are 14mm Enchanted Doll eyes.

    17. Thanks for answering my question Pas. I thought 14mm eyes would be small for her, but they look really good!

    18. So 14mm eyes are a good size for Roda???

    19. I tried 14mm in my girl and they look pretty good. If not set just right she can look a little startled. I decided to use my 16mm Yukinojo default eyes instead. :)
