1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Surprisingly Positive Things People Have Said!

Oct 7, 2007

    1. Once I was carrying my doll's box and a lady asked me what was inside. When I told her a doll she wanted me to show her, and when I did I was surprised by her reaction. She said he was pretty and that she has some dolls at home. It was a nice comment! xD

    2. Reviving this thread!

I took my Kestra (Ante) to Target a couple weekends ago, and the gal at Starbucks loved her! :D It's hard not to love an Ante, though. :)

    3. One of my roommates commented that Viktor's eyes were beautiful and said she thought bjds were cool >.<

    4. Mine was the same as Oakie's, my sister thought Tenshi's eyes were very pretty

oooh and all the comments that I gewt for Tenshi looks like a girl ;DDD

      INTENTIONAL

      xD

    5. In all the time Yumi-tan has been living with me (a little over a month) I have not once gotten a comment about her which is negative. Not once. Some people don't know what they're looking at: for one thing, they occasionally call my doll a "Barbie." Since I live in a predominantly Latino neighborhood I've committed the words "muneca Japonesa" to memory. Translated, that's "Japanese doll." The usual reaction is "?Ooh, muneca Japonesa? !Que bonita!"

Last Saturday I was at a meeting of both a Linux user group and a small doll meet. We were at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Torrance, and we had a lot of people come up and look at our dolls. They kept a respectful distance, and there weren't many questions. However, lots and lots and lots of smiling faces.

    6. Nice thread!:)

I love taking my Bambicrony Sunday out with me. When I was at a Starbucks at Barnes and Noble, a lady in the line ahead of me kept turning to look at her and when she moved ahead to wait for her drink (I guess she was building the courage to comment:aheartbea), she asked about her. She said she had some Japanese dolls, but none were BJD...and knowingly asked "They are quite expensive, aren't they?"
We had a really nice conversation and it ended with her wanting to look them up to get one!

I have had a few other fun conversations about them. They really are conversation starters...for sure!

    7. So nice to see such positive experiences!

That's great! :D That happened to me when I took my Ante to a movie. One of the women at the movie recognized her as a BJD (never happened before!) and asked me a bunch of questions. It seemed like she was going to look them up when she got home! :D

    8. Well, this came from my brother - "Well, at least he looks like a guy!", lol, thats alot coming from him, considering on how he's creeped out by BJDs, and couldnt understand on why most of them boys look like girls ^^''

This from my friend - "Wish he was real.. *sigh*", I actually stared at her when she said that...

"I guess I have 3 children now!", thats from my dad, haha.

    9. People that I have shown my dolls too have appreaciated their beauty, their sculpts, the abilty to customize them. One friend an older gentleman, liked that they felt "heavy" as he put it.

    10. Haha, that's awesome. :fangirl::fangirl:

    11. I haven't gotten too many friendly comments when I take my dolls out, but of course I don't take them out often >.> Either way! The nicest things I've heard are comments such as "Oh, she (or he) is so pretty!". Simple, but they're always my favorite <3

The nicest thing someone has done for me/my dolls is when my mother bought me a wooden chair that matched a bench one I bought. I got all excited and painted both the same night.

    12. A friend told me after seeing Niri 'Her hair is made of fur? Wow, you can do whatever hair cut you want, that's freaking awesome!'

      I was so happy! xD

    13. I brought Dizzy with me to school for a project [the project was that we could bring in a type of our art that we might not have a chance to showcase much at The Art Institute because most of the stuff at school is digital] so I brought Dizzy to shoe the how customizable and artistic the hobby is and my teacher was astonished and said she was beautiful and she was really glad I brought her in and all my classmates were pretty amazed too. ^^

I also brought her to work to show my supervisor and he said she was really neat and another lady at work said she was beautiful and interesting.

I really haven't gotten too many negative comments, most people seem accepting and love my doll ^^

    14. My parents seemed negative about it at first - they're weird, they're expensive, you'll grow out of it, ect. But then when we went to DragonCon mom came with me to the BJD panel and saw them in person and she totally fell in love with them! And then dad let me buy Ju! :)

They're still kinda snarky about her, but mom's really into helping me make clothes for her now and she does seem to like playing around with her. She even spontaneously kissed the top of her head once, it was really cute. My dad helped me tighten her strings, and my grandma said she'd make a pillow for her. I think my family's pretty used to my weirdness by now luckily.:sweat

And they make fun of the cats, and me, and each other all the time, so the snarkiness doesn't necessarily mean they don't like her. I mean, they've made jokes about letting the cats run away or killing them! when they do something bad, and sometimes I get annoyed at them for it, but they don't really mean it. ( Does this mean my parents are tsundere?)

    15. That was very cool and open-minded of your mom to do that! :D I'm glad you got your doll. :)

    16. I was at the airport waiting for my mom's plane with my boss and her daughter. All three sat near a shop in the airport, and they were selling dolls.

"They are creeping me out" I said, cause I really hate those kind of dolls, it's like strange not good looking dolls and cheap, anyway they scare the shit outa me, really.

"Yeah, they kinda creepy" her daughter said. She's always straight forward and will always say what on her mind, she's 14.

"*sighs* You would find my dolls creepier, honestly", and I show her some pictures, waiting for her reaction.

"They aren't creepy, they look kinda cool! This one looks kinda goth, she looks great!" she said. :D

      I was SO HAPPY :aheartbea

      _________

I asked my mom to help me with a t-shirt for Soeren, it took her 5 minutes to do what took me a whole week, and the more she was doing it, the more she was commenting "What the heck, those pants aren't well made, let me take him home so I can make him good pants, t-shirt, a coat..."

"You could make money like that you know?" I said ;)

"Hey yeah! I'll start a doll clothes compagny!" she said, smiling.

:aheartbea While she was putting his shirt back, she said "Aww I love those little shoes, it's like baby shoes *tying them in a cute way*" XD

    17. Well I have two favorites, but I've actually gotten a bunch of sweet comments.

One was when I was at an airport. I was brining my boy as a carry on because I'm paranoid, and his case happens to be a gigantic coffin XD So... I got a lot of "Oh is that an instrument?" questions, and a lot of people staring at me in sheer terror. Finally I got to the security scanner, and was fully expecting to have to pull my poor boy apart and show them I don't have drugs stuffed in him or something (I've got dyed hair and was wearing goth clothes...the airport people are kind of prejudiced sometimes). So the guy looking at the screen for metal goes, "Um..... could you take a look at this?" So one of the women who checks bags comes up, takes one look at my coffin bag and goes, "Oh that has a doll in it doesn't it!" with a big smile on her face. I was thoroughly surprised and went, "Yes, do you want to check and make sure I'm not hiding drugs in him or something?" (yes, I'm blunt) "Oh no sweetheart, you're good to go! Besides, that case reminds me of Chucky" Lol, it was so cute. The poor guy at the computer screen thing looked terrified but the woman was so sweet and I swear she looked in a much better mood after seeing my case lol. I guess airports get boring unless you have a few creepy people/things to look at during the day.

Then another time I was walking down mainstreet with my boy. Keep in mind, this is my delf boy with GIANT CHROM WOLF PAWS, so... he's not even like a "normal" bjd... he has gigantic paws and a tail on him XD (P.S. soom fantasy parts are HEAVY) So I went into this store that's rather new. The best way to explain it is that the people who own the store travel the world picking up things they think are neat, and then selling them in their store. So I was walking around for a while and found some cute doll sized things. I came up to the desk and all of a sudden the storekeeper's eyes lit up. "Oh, wow, who's this beauty?" "He's my little baby!" "*wide eyes* Is it alright if I hold him?" "Of course!" She then picked him up very carefully and was sure to make sure he didn't fall over (this was before I modded his legs to work...which I had forgotten at the time, so thank god she held on to him tight or he would have taken a dive bomb) "I've never seen anything like him before (I was super surprised that she was ok with him being a "him"....most people say "wow he's really feminine" or "no he's totally a girl" or something) Wow he's absolutely amazing. What's he made out of?" "Resin, he's a pretty tough fella" "Wow, just look at him! His face, his paws, his outfit, his tail!" And that's where I got really surprised.... most people don't realize that his tail is a tail... like.... not even doll people. She was so nice! I guess when your job is to find unique nifty things you like seeing bjds lol. She told me to come by often :) And I sure will! The store was so neat and there's a doll in there that has an outfit I want for my msd......

P.S. It's SUPER amusing to go out with your doll while wearing fangs... so if people make rude comments about your doll you can hiss at them. I've freaked out quite a few guys that way ;) Super funny

    18. My mom was like "*gasp* Hes beautiful!" when I first showed him to her. I was surprised because I was expecting her to be scared of him...

I was also expecting my dad to be negative but he didn't say anything. Which is good.

      I'm too chicken to put up pics on my DA because I know friends are going to be like "eww...what is that?" XD;

    19. My two best friends LOVED bjds when I showed them some stores and gallery pictures. It was really nice because my family thinks I'm ridiculous for wanting a doll, as do most of my other friends...

But now they want dolls, too, but not as vehemently as me, XD.

    20. I recently showed my Tiny Elfdoll to my male coworker at work (think buff guy with lots of piercings who used to be a guitar tech for a heavy metal band). His reaction was something like, "Woah! Very nice doll!" When I told him the cost (I was pretty embarrassed), he said, "No, that's not bad at all. You can tell that this is not just some plain old doll. It's a work of art!" I showed him the removeable faceplate, expecting him to laugh, and he said, "Oh my gosh, that's genius! It's so cool that she has several faces, all painted so well." He asked to hold her and enjoyed moving her joints and looking at her eyes. LOL!
